1. Got the cab and gigged it on Saturday. Really lightweight compared to the 550 touring combo but a great sound when hooked together with the 2x10s in the amp. Thanks for all the input, much appreciated.
2.
I'm not sure about the PRC heads as all of mine have been older UK built ones. Do you know what the 'variable quality' is? Or is this a forum rumour/speculation because manufacture has switched overseas??
I suppose I'm just repeating rumours and speculation about Chinese Ashdown amps I suppose. I have a Chinese TC BG250 that blew a few weeks after buying new. The shop replaced it and it's worked fine ever since (nearly 4 years) although the Toneprint software now doesn't seem to want to update. Give a dog a bad name I suppose. You watch, my UK made Ashdown Touring will die on me next week
3.
The PRC ABM cabs are just fine, you have no worries there
Thanks drake, is it just the amps that are maybe variable quality? I suppose not much to go wrong with a good speaker design and the right qualitty parts? I get it tomorrow in time for band rehearsal so we'll see.
4. It just says made by Ashdown engineering on the photo nothing about China. Picking it up tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up.
5.
If It's made in China it usually says ' Made in PRC' on the back. Not sure when this happened. I'm sure somebody reading this thread will chip in with the relevant info
6. Thanks blunderthumbs. How do I know if it's uk or China production. When did Ashdown move production there? Is the quality compromised in the opinion of the very knowledgeable on BC? I want to pair it with a uk made 550 tourer, but not if it won't do it justice.....
7. Thanks Merton The one I'm looking at is a 1x15 cab s/n 05920508 Sorry about the disappointment but she's just not that type of lady!
8. I tried emailing Ashdown through website customer service a few days ago. Nothing so far. Is there a resource on hear where I can find date & location of manufacture if it is not on the amps or cabs?
9. Just bought some bass mags from Gary at his house. Very nice bloke, great to communicate with and it's not everyday you get to have a go on a peachy 70s P bass through a Barefaced cab! Cheers Gary!
10. Just bought a bluebiurst Jake from Tom. Great guy to deal with and the bass was very well packed . Hope to deal with Tom again, I bet he's got some more gems hidden away!
11. How did you get on with finding a new bass player? Still need someone? Do you have a set list if you ever need a dep?
12. Thanks for helping point the way forward in my first lesson today Steve. Really appreciated your perspective and the way you focused in on the little things that help to build a solid foundation as a springboard to greater things. Recommend you to anyone in the area who's having trouble to book a slot with you. See you next week! Chris
13. I recently added a J Retro Deluxe preamp to my J style bass with Lakland Skyline DJ neck with EMGs. Single battery runs the lot. Great turnaround service from John (dropped off and collected myself at the workshop). Done two gigs with it, WOW! Really versatile for my pop/rock outfit and really quick to make changes on the fly. I run it through a TCE BG250. I recommend talking to John if you are after tonal changes, as the mod put a whole new life into my bass as the existing tone/expander just wasn't doing it . Happy, happy happy...
14. I wasnt driving mine hard. Just switched it on. Contacted Dawsons where I got it from and they sent it back to TCE and they shipped me a new one. Can't fault that but lucky it blew at the start of a gig sound check and didn't blow in the middle of a song. I had a pod xt as a DI backup anyway, but still the reliability issue is still there. Maybe I was unlucky with a rogue unit.
15. Hi I'm interested in the Roland V bass, how old is the unit and has it had any software / firmware updates? Thanks
16. Thanks for the input, it was a long shot to see if anyone had any insight. I've read that the guitar versions don't look after the low frequencies as well, especially with synth sounds or is that just hype? Line 6 X3 Live floor unit claims to do both, with different processing for bass and guitar. Anyone got any experience with one of those for bass?
17. I was looking at getting one of these but I see it's been out for 5 years. The guitar version has been replaced by the GT100 so was wondering if boss might be upgrading the GT10B soon before I go for one. Anyone got any inside info? Nothing on the boss website....
18. [sup]Thanks for the input and insight guys, will have a careful think about it and our strategy if we decide to go for it.[/sup]
19. Thanks for the advice gents, will take it on board. I was wondering if it's worth getting some advertising done on local/regional wedding websites that signpost brides and grooms to wedding services. Has anyone done that? It sounds like it might be expensive, but I haven't researched it yet....
20. Just learning the Girls on Film bass line for my covers band - interesting!
21. What is the best route into playing the wedding circuit? We play pubs for £200-250. We are a 5 piece pop/rock covers outfit playing from 60s to present day tunes with female lead vocals plus sax and keys. I think we are petty versatile so should be able to fit in with the wedding scene but have now idea how to get into it? Any advice please?
22. Just ordered strings and picks this morning, instant acknowledgement as usual and they've never let me down.
