1. Just a guess as Wal's vary wildly with their weight, but i would say 15lbs with case and packing?
Maths?! *Runs and hides*
6. Yep, a few nibbles but no bites yet.
Is this still for sale? Cheers
7. Friday pre-pub, price drop, bump.
  8. I had a 14.5lb Wal 5 string. Great sound, but way too heavy. Got another 10lb Wal, less bottom than the previous bass and still too heavy! I'm now talking to Jon Shuker about a light weight ash 5 string which will hpefully weigh about 8/9lbs. Weight definately seems to add to the bottom end, but also can make some basses a bit muddy sounding?

  11. I've had a few people asking about the Bass Sweet pedal and i found this review from Bass Player mag. So this may help? Frantone Electronics Bassweet The Frantone Bassweet is housed in a hardy yet lovely purple case with sweet cream-colored Bakelite knobs and a bright green steel-bezeled LED. While detaching the bottom plate is the most involved of all battery-replacement methods, it’s also the most robust. Frantone put a lot of attention into audio-impacting detail, and the resulting tone—classic bass fuzz with a vivid harmonic signature—is a testament to the excellent design. Smooth-sounding germanium transistors are used for clipping, and the remaining electrical components are high quality, like silver/Teflon wiring and a New-Old-Stock Fairchild transistor driver from the ’70s. Its tone is a beautiful realization of the bass fuzz sound, dripping with soul-stirring personality. Sustain increases the fuzz intensity and tone is a basic high-cutting filter. All together, the Bassweet was simple and extremely effective. List $235 Street $220 Power 9V batt. or AC adapter True bypass Yes Weight 1 lb, 8 oz Warranty Lifetime limited Made in U.S.A. Contact www.frantone.com
It has a very thick fuzz sound. i've never heard anything like it before so it's difficult to compare. It seems to be based on the big muff, but a much better build quality. The controls are sustain which adds in the amount of fuzz, this pedal cannot give a gritty valve type of sound, it is a very extreme sounding fuzz pedal. The tone control works just like the muff, as you turn it clockwise there is more treble and the bottom end drops away, as you turm acw the bottom end gets huge. There is a volume as well. It holds the notes well even down to the low B on a 5 string. No mudiness, but it is very fuzzy, so definition from a pick can get lost unless you turn up the tone control. I was using it with a jazz 5 string to get a thick, smooth fuzz not unlike a synth. I have a Tubescreamer that i use for a valve type overdrive, but it can't get close to the sound of the Frantone.
13. I'm open to offers, but nothing too silly tho. I'll check out the ray, Trev.
hi there again , fella you might be asking a bit to much for the jazz go on ebay have a look , would you be interested in some kind of deal for my stingray my number is many thanks trev.
14. I know the Pulsar trem seems like a funny idea for a bass, but with a fuzz pedal it sounds like a huge evil pulsing synth. Amazing! I've got another trem which is smaller so that's why this one's going.
If I had some spare cash I would jump on that Sparkle Drive, it's meant to be one of the best bass overdrives going. But I'll hang onto my Badder Monkey for now!
15. Just had a look at your link, looks like it's only rosewood and maple on fretboards now. I think the pau ferro has become harder to find over the last few years and therefore too expensive for Fender to use.
They still do Pau Ferro http://www.fender.com/products//search.php?partno=0194660720 on these. Think they've stopped using it on the American Standard V and the Mex V
Wal's...

Apparently Wal's might be making a comeback! http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/walba...y/message/11111
With the right bass i could mate, but what i have just aren't the sort of basses i'm prepared to start fiddling with. Thanks for the suggestion though.
17. Hi, i'm relisting this bass for sale again, as my Shuker build is nearing completion. 2001 US Jazz Deluxe V, alder body with the now discontinued (cost Fender too much!) Pau Ferro fretboard which has a tone between ebony and rosewood. 3 tone sunburst with tort scratchplate. Original Fender 18v preamp- vol, blend, bass, treble, mids- also i had it fitted with Nordstrand NJ5FS single coils (they are a split hum cancelling design) and a Badass V bridge, fitted by the Gallery. This bass has a great sound and feel, the Nords made the bass sound fantastic, much, much better than the stock pups. Lots of growl and midrange punch, also fitting the Badass added more sustain and bottom end. It is in very good condition, as you can see from the pics, no dings or scratches. Comes with a Ritter gigbag. Asking £780 (New this bass would be £1500 with the mods) It can be collected from Finchley, North London or the City. Thanks.
  18. 2 pedals all in excellent condition with original boxes. All prices incl p&p. or can meet in London -Finchley or city. Frantone Bass Sweet - £80 - Very thick bass distortion/ fuzz, like a cross between a Russian big muff and a zvex mammoth fuzz. Tons of bottom end, top build quality. Electro Harmonix Pulsar - £40 - Vintage style Tremelo, with selectable Wave Shape Switch. You can get a soft vibrato to a hard edged synth-style deep pulse. DepthKnob – Adjusts the amount of Tremolo that will be applied to your signal. Rate Knob – Adjusts the speed of modulation for the effect. Rate/Status LED – If the effect is engaged, the LED will blink at the same rate that the effect modulates.
  19. Ok, i'm confused now. I know Overwater have an improved eq on their current basses, so maybe that would sort out the B? The pickups look about EMG size, so i imagine you could always replace them with Nords/ Barts etc. But considering the price of Overwaters why should you? They seem to be a bit of a marmite bass!
  20. Thanks guys.
I play an Overwater Progress III Fretless 5 - sounds amazing - like a fretless should The tone controls and pickup sweep give you the ability to dial in pretty much any sound you'll be needing - as you previously mention the build quaility and attention to detail are second to none. I tend to use the bridge pick up more. The sound of the bass comes primarily from the combination of woods used and the way you play it - the preamp and eq just give you some additional control. If it sounds good acoustically then it'll sound good plugged in providing you're not doing anything crazy with your amp settings. Recently played one of the newer Perception Series - these are great basses too
21. Neck through or bolt on, it doesn't matter to me, i'm more interested in the sound of the pickups and preamp. I'm trying to find out what is the Overwater sound? Are there any basses that they are comparable to?
I'm sitting next to someone who plays one. I asked about the B and he said: Good. Clear. Solid. Overall it's defined, even, hifi. What model are you looking at?
22. Hi, i love the look of Overwater's but i've read mixed reviews on their sound, especially the B string on the 5's. I played one but without it being plugged into an amp, it felt great and was very solidly made. So anyone out there who can give me some opinions about them?
  23. Had a couple of nibbles, but no bites yet.
