1. I am willing to take a hacksaw to it if headless is required :-)
Ooh, pity it's not headless
2. Hi i'm selling this little beauty as i've found myself leaning towards Fenders. The Empathy series were the top of the Status range in the 90's, near identical to the current Status S2, apart from the Empathy has matching facia woods front and back and no truss rod due to the strength of the graphite neck through. The Empathy's are no longer available. Here's the details: Woven carbon fibre through neck 5 string. Quilt maple front and back and i think walnut wings. Two dual coil Status hyperactive pickups and a Status pre amp. The preamp is vol, blend, bass, treble and a sweepable mid with a cut/boost switch which works on the mid selected. This pre is very versatile, giving you a mellow dub to agressive rock sounds. Comes with a Hiscox hard case. There are some scuffs and chips which i've tried to show in the photos. Looking for £870 From the Staus website: The Empathy's woven graphite through-neck and phenolic fingerboard offer complete stability and a total absence of dead spots, demonstrating Status' knowledge and understanding of graphite as a manufacturing material. The active circuitry employed on the Empathy offers extensive tonal adjustment. The treble, bass and variable midrange controls combine with the master volume and pickup balance to produce a huge variety of tonal possibilities. The twin Status Hyperactive pickups were conceived to produce a powerful, well defined tone and contribute significantly to make the Empathy one of the most flexible, professional basses in the world.
 3. How about if you buy a maple neck and then give it to the guys in the Gallery, they can retro fit the block inlays. I saw a Telecaster in there, that they had done just that. Looked very snazzy!
 4. Hi, yeah i've been looking for a decent strap for a while. It seems that a lot of straps are only about 54" long and i need about 57". I find that the most comfortable straps are the woven cotton ones like these ones below, but again they are too short. Common someone...a decent bass strap for those who like to hang low! 5. Cheers guys.
Gutted. I've got a Planet Waves Comfort Wide Nylon 3 incher. Stop it children! Cheap & cheerful.
6. I can't believe i've lost my favourite strap, i've had it for years. So what do you use? anything wide and comfy?
 7. I used to play Wals and i always thought that most of the tone was coming from the heavy weight bodies. But Pete at Wal always said that the pickups and preamp were producing most of the sound! Now i play Status basses and they are much lighter than the Wals but still have the same depth of sound and attack? Rob Green at Status says that the tone comes from the graphite through neck, pickups/preamp and that the wood wings and laminate tops are really just for the look and don't affect the sound. Recently i've also been playing a 70's precision, which is very light weight, but again has a very good bassy tone? So i would go along with the idea that the pickups and preamp are possibly the most important character on any guitar? The woods -type and weight- are adding minor tonal differences. Just to complicate things though, i have noticed that 5/ 6 string basses have deeper tones to their EADG strings than a conventional 4 string, which i put down to the increased mass in the necks? as the bodies are similar if not the same size/weight to their 4 string cousins.
 8. Thanks, maybe i'll buy a samsonite suitcase and put it in that.
If you are flying with it it is possible to pack it in your luggage; neck demounted. I've done this loads of times with Ibanez, Yamaha, Status, and Warmoth Fender style Bolt on basses. Once or twice I hand carried the neck and put it in the overhead cabin in the 80s, I think you can't carry it like that anymore. Last time I flew with an instrument was in Jan 2006 with a bolt on Yamaha dismantled in the luggage.
9. Hi i need to pick your collective brains! I'm going to bring a 5 string Jazz over from the US. What's the best way to do it? a: in a hard case b: remove the neck and hopefully put the body and neck in the overhead lockers c: ship it back. Also has anyone been stopped by customs bringing a guitar into the UK? Thanks.
 10. Yes they made me a case for my laptop. Excellent, very heavy duty.
Anyone ever bought one of these before? http://www.spider-engineering.co.uk/music/...sp?id=3140-3980 Thinking it would be a good investment for my ACG when it's back.
11. Just found this old thread on talk bass. It seems that Leo Quon has been looking at a string through bridge replacement for the US Deluxes but as this thread is 2 years old, i won't hold my breath. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=184218
Thanks for that. No nothing in the sticky. Yes i think it's odd that the V bridge wouldn't match up for the through body holes? I've mailed the people at Badass, but no reply yet. Guess i'll have to buy one and see how it matches.
Otherwise, if the string-thru holes don't line up with the ones on the body, it's a bit of a no-no. All the III's I've investigated for my MIA Jazz looked okay, and are in a straight line as per the body holes. Is a V different in that respect? As for string spacing, if it's string-thru, that suggests it's a BadAss III (like above). They have grooved saddles allowing for spacing adjustment to at least 3 variations. If it's a II, you file the saddles (IF you choose to) yourself, in which case, the world is your oyster. Choose your ideal spacing, and file away (carefully!)
13. Has anyone ever fitted a Badass V to a Fender USA Jazz deluxe 5 or any Fender 5 string? I've been told a couple of things, that the holes for the string though body will not match-up? This seems odd, as it's meant to be a direct Fender replacement? Also that it is too wide to have comfatable string spacing on the neck? Anybody?
 14. Status - series 2 or Empathy. Great B, very well made and about £800 used.
If he's got £700 ($1500) he'll be buying a US std P bass 5string and he'll be a very happy Hector no doubt. And putting 400 bucks toward a growly amp....
17. Now sold
+1
18. Patrick - you have mail!
Still got the bass? i want to pick it up from u... Let me know how we should proceed Peace Patrick laplan
19. Yep there are some great rock fretless kings out there, but not me :-(
Jaz Lochrie?
20. Wal fives don't appear that regularly, i think the mk1 four strings were the most popular? As suggested a good luthier could fairly easily covert this bass back to a fretted.
Do you know where I can get 5-string fretted Wal bass?
21. Thanks, I'll keep a look out for his mail. Another Wal going to the US? Are there going to be any left in the UK?
Bassy, I think a pal of mine from the USA is going to email you. He has long wanted a Wal 5 and I think this is the one.
22. Absolutely. I play a lot of rock and i can never find a place for the fretless sound. But I know as soon as it's sold, i'll suddenly have something that needs a fretlless.....But i can't justify having a Wal just sitting in a case.
Is that because it's a fretless and you're more of a fretted player?
23. No prob on the hijack, thanks for all the help. Yep it's a lovely bass and as anyone who's played a Wal fretless knows, they have the most amazing fretless tone because of the Wal electronics. Just listen to Mick Karn in Japan or Dalis Car. I don't really want to sell it, but i think i've only played it twice in 3 years!!
 24. Price drop - £275 - Buyer collects The cab is now on ebay - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...s=tab%3DSelling
Hi, sorry i have no idea of the ohms? I'm using 1 or 2 boogie cabs into a Ampeg svt or GK 800rb head with never any problems, so i'm guessing it's 8 ohm. It's about 12 years old. The max watt is about 600w, these cabs are built for pro use, they are very heavy and very tough and built like a tank! I have toured all over with this cab and never had a problem with it. I'm only selling it because i've run out of room at the studio. Thanks
