1. This is a starter set for a Bass Player. A colleague of mine, huge Jack Bruce fan, started to learn the bass about 4 years ago, after general conversations of all things bass with me. Anyway, he was pursuaded to buy the gear, and despite my encouragement, he never quite had time, or enough desire to actually start playing it. All this kit is brand new (4 years old...ish), and unplayed. Squier Jazz bass, made in China. Bright red ala CAR. Plays nicegood responsive pickups and tone control, great value. Trace Elliott Boxer 65 combo, green carpet model. I owned an identical amp for years, and its a fantastic home, practice amp, I loved it. Hercules, grab stand. Bass cost £199 TE Combo was £169 Stand was/is £30 Total cost £400 He's looking for £[s]250[/s] £200 which for a 'new' set is [s]pretty good[/s] excellent value. He was going to advertise it on eBay, but i asked if i could give it a go on here first, as I thought it may do someone a good turn, its a great value beginners/spare set up. He doesnt really want hassle of shipping (Not for that value anyway), and would prefer cash on collection from his home in Kettering (Northants) If anyones interested, reply to this, or PM me with contact details, and i'll pass on the details (I see him everyday) Here's the all important pics; Cheers
  2.
someone on here has two....
That's just being greedy!! Are they yours?
  3.
Thanks for your comments, very much appreciated. and i'm glad you're all enjoying the bass. But I don't think it was shipped any earlier than very late 1967. These were certainly shipping into 1967 with the non intonatable bridge (see Gibson bass bridges), but it would also have had the wider of the two metal humbucker covers (see Gibson bass pickups). The hardware definately says later. It is possible that this neck was made and stamped a few years earlier, and sat in the factory for a few years before being shipped - Gibson did funny things like that at times. I haven't taken the pots out to check the codes, but i'm pretty sure they will say late 1967, or even early 1968. Have a look at my 1967 Rivoli that isn't for sale http://www.flyguitar...phoneRivoli.php - pot codes on that are just past the middle of '67. If this is an issue to anyone we can go into a whole lot more detail, or I can show more photos, even check the pot codes.
I'll bow to your far superior knowledge, as i'm not big on Epiphones. Serial number check does say '66 though on 3 different sites. I also thought the 2 -pickup version came in, in late '66, and also the slot head tuners were replaced by philips in '66. To be fair though, I'm probably basing this more on the Gibson EB2 vintage, and not Epiphones. I would suggest any buyers should disregard my comments, as they may well be incorrect from what the seller has said, or, as i'd always recommend, do plenty of your own research. Good luck with the sale though, its a lovely looking bass, i think the refin on the front of the body is probably the best i've seen on one of these.
  4. I'd get some frets fitted, it'll sound like a proper bass then!
  5.
I only wanna say thank you, have a happy new year, and hope having a good time with all of u.
Hola Diego, Como estas? Feliz Ano Nuevo, y bienvenido a Basschat. Hasta luego amigo. Rick
  6. I played one of these a few years back (Sunburst version), and it was lovely, really warm DB....ish sound. Not sure how many they made, but you hardly ever see them about. Very cheap shipping!! Does anyone on here have one? 7.
Damn Ive just aged by 2 years
Could even be a late '65!!! Doh!
  8.
Alternatively, it's been properly looked after rather than being carried around in a bin-bag and used to hammer tent pegs in. The blowtorch-and-sander "professional" relickers should be forced to take a good hard look at what a 50 year old bass can look like.
+1 Indeed.
  9. From the features, and serial number, i think this is a '66? Great looking body refin!!! Nice.
  10.
Who says that??? Valves should last YEARS of regular use, and decades of occasional use! Also, they were built a lot better in the 50s...
Absolutely, I've never heard anyone suggest valves should be changed regularly. I've had mine in my tweed bassman for 12 years and they're good as new.!!
  11.
He wrote: The truss-rod adjustment should really be up at the headstock, y'know.
To be honest, it is a more practical place to put it, although as a bit of a vintage purist, its something i hate to see, especially on self-relic'd 'vintage' basses, not nice at all.
  12.
Gone now. Listing ended, no longer available. It was described as two-tone sunburst but looks like faded red to me - and no neck date. The seller is Tune-o-matic, we've come across him before.
He sold the bass, but the amp is still for sale. Early 1959 Fender guitars don't have neck dates. Someone at the factory wrote something blasphemous on a neck heel, which was discovered, and they stopped writing on neck heels until it was investigated and stopped, at which point, around June '59, they re-commenced.
  13.
and what are the batteries in the amp for?
What batteries????? Do you mean the Astron capacitors?
  14.
Mum, where's my pocket money gone?!
I hope you're 120 years old, and she's going to back date it!!!
  15. How about this, what an amazing set to find, now, where's that lottery ticket??? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Original-Vintage-1959-Fender-Precision-Bass-Bassman-5F6-A-Amp-Amplifier-Set-/360425346081?pt=Guitar&hash=item53eb065421
  16.
Isn't that a bit misleading as Fender have had headstock Truss Rods. Maybe not on tele style head stocks but they have used it.
It was me who emailed him, with a few points about the tuners and neck, i actually said that Fender didn't make a telecaster bass with the truss rod adjustment at the headstock end, or indeed any bass like that until the late 80's. He didn't say the whole thing in the ad revision. Fair play though, he's probably genuinly unaware of what he has. This was his reply to me "Ok i will do that, thank you for the info. It seems any info on this neck has come up pretty vague and blurry so any further info i'm given is gratefully received, ad will be amended immediately, thanks again"
  17.
Cheers and will do - I'm not a regular visitor but your basses are well-worth the effor (a bit of a fan of tweed too)
Nothing wrong with tweed!!! (Unless you're wearing it!!! )
  18.
i'd have an extra room then too : )
LOL, I know that feeling very well, Mrs Rick is constantly hassling me to make space, we really don't have the space to justify 15 basses (To be honest does anybody??). Our Son is moving into the current 'guitar' room in July, which leaves a tiny box room, which just 'aint gonna work, so I have to choose which ones to let go between now and then.......bad times!! Lovely '65 by the way, are you sure you don't wanna sell that one???
  19. Are you selling any of the Jazz's??
  20.
heres a few of mine and
This is absolutely lovely, great condition, what year is it?, '65? Also, the Antigua finish is certainly an acquired taste, but your 2 are in lovely, unfaded condition, havent seen a fretless version before either, is it a factory fretless or conversion?? Nice bunch indeed!!
  21.
sorry but i dont see the point in the roadworns at all. I got a great '82 JV squier P/J here on basschat thats looks roadworn because it is roadworn (30 years roadworn!) and it sounds and plays amazing, plus it was only £450 quid. Why buy essentially a fake look when there are some amazing genuine "vintage" axes out there for half the money?
The same reason people dont get why someone might pay £450 for a Squier, or why someone would buy a Rickenbacker at all, or spend £20k on a bass, or anything else you can think to mention, each to their own. Everyone likes different stuff......thank god! I dont own a roadworn, although i have played one, and they are great basses in their own right. Having said that, I do think they are massively overpriced though for what they are, compared to a Mex, non-road worn version.
