1.
I never got that must be old to be good thing.
I don't think anyone is suggesting that. It's about it being period correct. Its never gonna be better, just because it's old, it's a piece of plastic!
 2. one-more-sleep-'til-the-stone-roses-at-heaton-park type bump
 3. OK, somethings come up that is too good to refuse, so this is back up. £875, all inclusive of whats in the pics, CS case, catalogs, tags etc.
 4. Nice, if I didnt already have my eye on something, I would take this. Had a '63 a few years ago, and always regret selling it, would love another, and this is a fine one. Good luck with the sale fella, lovely, lovely bass, at a very reasonable price.
 5. As Molan says, if this is what you need to complete your original vintage bass, then you'll pay what its worth to you? If you have an all original '62 jazz missing the thumbrest, I can assure you that it would more than recover its $150+price, if you added one of these, and then had an all original '63. I think the main issue with some of these sellers, is that they strip out perfectly good guitars, because they can make more by parting them out. It should be a crime. If a guitar is broken, then fair enough, recycle the parts, but just to break one up for more bucks is a real shame. Hey ho, thats life. He probably makes bucket loads out of it?
 6.
PM sent.
Very nice, trade agreed!
 7.
Ohhh... Rick, would you take a ten-year-old boy and a forty eight-year-old woman with quite reasonable boobs as payment?
How could I possibly refuse, look forward to the pics!!
 8.
and a good deal cheaper than another '58 copy for sale at the mo... and this one doesn't have sharpie on the back of the headstock!
....and mine has the right finish, and it has the correct raised pole pickups, and.....oh, never mind.
 9.
Bump for a splendid bass, better than a CS and designed with care.
many thanks for the kind words, its a lovely bass.
 10.
It's interesting to be aware about what one is talking about, but as I'm sure you know better than me, these are sliding scales. Initially, for me it's simple: if it's built to sound strongly enough volumewise to keep up with traditional builds, it's acoustic. If it's meant to have an acoustic effect on its electrical sound (or the other way round), it's an acoustic-electric. That's the simple stuff. From there one, we're lost, and a definitve answer is uncalled for and will be met with lots of challenges, both from musicians and from developing technology.
An acoustic-electric?? Now there's another one to the list!!
 11.
No idea on the slab body specs. I owned mine (and Precision serial no 0189) before the days of the internet and had no idea of the rarity of it. It may well have been stock parts but something about it made it an extraordinary bass to record with. The sound was really full and even, if you understand what I mean. I'd still own both if I knew now .............................. but then we've all been there. Good luck with the build and you'll have a particularly stunning bass when it's finished. The other different thing (if original but sold as such) was the case. We're going back a bit but it was sort of black/white weave to look almost grey and had pockets either side of the neck as it lay in the case. Never seen one like it before or since.
thanks Steve, some pretty scarce basses you've owned there, hindsights a wonderful thing eh, if only we all had a bit of that!
 12.
Having started (and read) this thread, it's raised more questions than it's answered. I still think it needs clearing up, because I agree with the 'electro-acoustic bass if it's a double bass that is stock fitted with a preamp/pickup' on principal, but it's still using a pickup to amplify a primarily acoustic instrument, so I'm not sure what is what anymore. We need a truly definitive answer? the luthiers need to get together and define it for us me thinks!
I would never call a 'double-bass' an electro-acoustic bass just because it has a pickup added to amplify it, its still a double bass. An electro-acoustic bass is a guitar shaped acoustic bass, to me anyway. i didnt realise people had difficulty in defining it....until this thread! I'm sure 20 luthiers would all have 20 differing definitions too, as we all have, they are just people you know??
 13.
Excuse a noobie question about Ps, but how many pieces of wood are there in that body? Looking at the picture of the bottom edge (nearest the control cavity; about the 8th picture down, I think) the wood grain makes it looks like there are two thin slices forming the bottom of the bass. Is that standard?
i think thats just the Ronseal staining, and if it is pieces of wood, then no, its not normal.
 14.
Ha! Thats cool. Problem is Ive got 67 stuck in my head A
You need to think of male retirement age.....although thats probably nearer 80 the way things are going !
 15.
DAMN!!! Remember it was 65 not 67, Remember it was 65 not 67, Remember it was 65 not 67, Remember it was 65 not 67, Remember it was 65 not 67, Remember it was 65 not 67, Remember it was 65 not 67, Remember it was 65 not 67................. A
Actually, I really am that anal about vintage fender facts!! Sad isn't it!
 16.
Duly noted and stored for an appropriate moment to show off thanks A
Actually, I just double checked, and it was late '65, my bad!
 17.
OK here goes........... I know nothing of vintage Fenders but shouldnt there be a central scratch plate fixing hole? A
Yes, on Jazzes, from 'circa '66, not on P's though.
 18.
Thats shocking! how can you sleep at night?
Quite nicely ta!
 19. The only confusion or mis-interpretation, whatever you want to call it, I've ever witnessed is between a Semi, and an electro. To my understanding, a semi-acoustic is like an Gibbo EB2, Ricky 4005, Epi Rivoli, an electro-acoustic is like a Takamine or Ovation, basically an acoustic bass, with a pickup, allowing it to be amplified. All the others; solid body, acoustic, chambered, upright etc are obvious, and I've never seen them misused. Maybe just me? It generally doesnt bother me though, it's a bit like apostrophe nerds isnt it? We know what it should be, but it doesn't keep me awake at night!
 20. sorry to be cynical, but you asked for opinions. The opening question referred to 'family life'. I could give lots of additional info, buy in simple summary, 10 months missing from 12 is hardly family life! Having said that, its a horrible situation to be in, and not enviable at all. I wish you luck and happiness....whatever you do. Rick
