From the basschat homepage it looks like the title of this thread is: Epifani Cabinets now being ass... Classic.
Sorry for making an Ass of the title, I am sure the Chineese are just as good at glueing as the Americans, maybe just faster! -
Been trying to lay my hands on a Epi 2 x 10 8ohm UL cab, I have just been informed by a reliable source that these are now going to be assembled in China, apparently with the same made in USA parts. Wonder if they will pass on the financial benefits?
So you found your way there after all Steve? A great little shop if a bit awkward to find!!
Yes, shame they did not have an 8ohm Epifani 2 x 10 cab there otherwise I would have bought it to complete my new line up.

Not yet, I already have a black 79 P bass, although on the dark side I did like a 70's lightweight Strat that I may go back for.

As I said guys, I tried to keep it simple! If you want more theory then do what I did 35 years ago and go to college or what appears to happen nowdays spend your life surfing the interblog :brow:

Now for something completly different! Went into langley guitar centre last week for the first time! what great service. The owner made me a cup of coffee and I tried out a number of guitars and basses including some interesting 70's fenders! This shop has been going for a long time and I had never been there before even though I work about 5 miles away! It may be just down to the fact that I am on the older side and had me suit on, but there was no pressure to buy, and I will be going back there even if they are slightly more expensive than the good old interweb! It was service just like it used to be when I were a lad...... Langley Guitar Centre

Some very interesting thoughts on this thread: I will keep this simple because there is no need to complicate this unless you are building your own system. Matching Power OK, the Amp can be seen like a car engine in that it supplies power, and your speaker like the clutch brakes and tyres delivering the power to the road. If you put a bigger engine in it will work, but your clutch will fail much quicker if you use all the power and the tyres and brakes will fade and you will be replacing parts much sooner than you would like! The same is true for the amp and speaker, drive the speaker past its limits and you will be replacing the speaker a lot sooner, so rule of thumb is make sure your speakers can take all that the amp can give plus a bit more. Now if you put a smaller engine in the car again it will work but perfomance will be sluggish. Using a speaker that needs a lot more power to drive it than is being supplied and it will not reach its optimal range, but it will work. Matching Impedance If you are running multiple speakers make sure that they are of the same impeadence (ohm's), if not your sound will not be equally divided, (ie one will be louder than the other), as the power will be split based on the resistance that each speaker gives, and if they are different then the output of each speaker will be different. If the speakers are the same ohms ie 8ohms and 8ohms = 4ohms then the power, (watts) will be divided equally, so if your Amp says 500watts at 4ohms your lowest speaker should be rated greater than 250watts. Volume Controls How much output, (watts) being delivered to the speaker, (not to be confused by being generated by the amp) will depend on where the volume control is set, and there is no set relation to the number on the dial, (so just because it goes up to 11 does not mean that it is louder than one that goes up to 10, remember Spinal Tap). So, bottom line is if your Amp is more powerfull than your speaker keep the volume down, and your speaker may just last out, (although I would not recomend this as a long term arrangement). I am sure that this will generate a bit of further discussion as in this case fiction is greater than fact!

Trace v4 combo new old stock

For 2k you can have my V8 and the 4 x 12 in pristine condition. But I would cry as you drove away with it............. -
Went into one of the shops in Denmark Street about a year ago, (may have been Hank's), looked at a 62 strat, (yes I know its a guitar not a bass!, I play on the dark side as well). £12,000 pounds was the price tag, showed lots of interest but said it was way too pricey, an hour later I got a phone call from them saying they would take £7,000!!!! Just shows you how over priced those places are, I politely declined the offer, the only reason I was interested was that I was getting a 62 strat built for me and I wanted to play as many originals as I could to get details for the build.

A few years back we were booked to play in a pub just outside Portsmouth, on the same night as a World Cup match was being played! England v Germany, the match went into extra time, I think it was the one that Beckham got sent off, then it was a penalty shoot out, and then England lost and we were out of the cup. It was about 10.45 by the time the match finished and were to play until 11.00, no one was in the mood for live music and the landlord paid us the full amount even though we only played for the 10mins. It's only a game! (No I did not say that at the time, I valued my life too much!)

I am a pinky user, although it has changed shape over the years and has a definate bend to the right, at the last joint! Recently hurt it and it was a pain not being able to use it....

Celebrity Gear - once used by the famous
sixshooter replied to Born 2B Mild's topic in General Discussion
My V8 Trace Elliot was one of two that came back from Sting, bought it at John Henry in London. My Modulus 6 string was played and reviewed in Guitarist Mag by the famous Steve Lawson -
Just remebered I was using curly leads in 1968, so I may not have started until a bit later..mmmm now you got me thinking! thats realy going to anoy me now.
-
I have done it since 1968, still do it now apart from when I play my Brian Moore, (which is very rare), as that plugs into the back of the guitar, which is a very bad design cause it has fallen out of there before because I did not have it around the strap because it plugs in the back!!!!! Great idea, stupid design. Sorry Brian

Hi Steve, I currently do about 70% of those on your list including Funky Music.... First of all get someone to tell you what key all the songs are in, otherwise you will waste time learning the song and then have to transpose it. Hopefully you will have at least one practice with the band, listening to the songs on CD/MP3 is great however most bands do not start/finish and copy the entire song. So take a recorder to the practice and record the band playing the songs their way. That way you can practice at home without them as many times as you like. Also make some crib notes for the songs, what is the key that the song is in, and shorthand the structure so you know what the middle 8 looks like, and take it with you, better you have a prompt than you totally forget the song or structure, some people may think this is "unproffesional", B**llocks you are there to do the best job that you can in a short period of time. But most of all enjoy it! the adrenalin will get you through and it does not have to be note perfect, if it was then they would have booked a disco!

how much do we charge for new years eve
sixshooter replied to dabootsy's topic in General Discussion
Last year we got £600 for a 5 piece, which at least one member thought that it was too low. However when you consider that that pub would normally pay £250 ita just over double or £120 per person I don't think it was unreasonable. If its a private function it would have been anything above £1k that I could have negotiated. I guess its down to are you doing it for money, fun or because you have too! and also where do you want to be on New Years Eve... -
Two gigs this weekend, both went very well from an audiance point of view, however the sound was very different! Friday, small old pub with low ceilings so I took my Line 6 Bass amp, 59CS relic P bass and 79 Black P bass with EMG's and Badass Bridge. I could not get a decent sound, it was all bottom end boom, stuck the amp on a crate and it was still no better with both Basses. Sat, a Wedding in a large hall with high ceilings, took the Trace V8 with 4 x 12 cab, same guitars......how I love the sound of that amp, sheer bliss to play, although my back was hurting a bit on Sunday morning, should never have lifted the 4 x 12 into the back of the car on my own! Think I have got GAS now because I want to find a small Bass Amp that gives the sound quality of my Trace V8, think I may be looking for a long while!

Just added "Play that Funky Music" to the set list, (Bass line always reminds me of Superstition), and at the last three gigs it got lots of people up on there feet, even in pubs! Another good one is Hard to Handle!
