Yesterday I tried out a '73 Jazz, a '79 Antigua Precision and an '83 SQ Precision...the SQ blew the others away in terms of playability and resonance. My '83 JV Jazz is better still. I think the quality and the in-hand feel of Japanese instruments surpass the majority of the USA's efforts around that time, and ever since tbh. They're starting to gather genuine vibe and mojo too now after being around for 30+ years...

Hi folks, can any Squier nerds please help me out? I've won an auction for a "JV Squier" that was supposedly pieced together from 1982 parts...but something ain't quite right. The neck is a legit JV precision neck, although possibly a domestic edition due to the smaller machine heads....but the body doesn't fly right with me. Surely a JV body would have the ditch below the neck pocket for the truss rod access? The bridge clearly isn't an export JV but could be domestic or other? And what's up with the neck pocket stamp...I'm fairly sure that is says SQ-JB...which I've never come across before! I thought that could have meant it was an SQ model, but they would also have the truss rod access slot....so what gives? Does anyone out there have a JV / SQ with the same features? If anyone can help, that would be great! Thank you.

My recent recording rig at Middle Farm Studios: I mostly used the '83 Squier JV Jazz into a '77 Ampeg VT-40 -> '60s Fender 2x15, an early Ampeg SVT Classic -> an old Ampeg 8x10, and a Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier -> Mesa 4x12. The cabs were isolated in 2 separate rooms because everything was running hot and loud. The Peavey 2x15 pictured was used for a monitor, room sound and general vibe!

I'm fairly sure they were all over the place, I've seen lots of variation in placement on other models!

Hi, I bought a Wizard P/J set for my bass a couple years ago, and for a while now when I solo the P pickup I've noticed that the A string's volume is much quieter compared to the rest of the strings. I figured it was just down to me setting it up wrong...but after playing around with tapping the pole pieces with a screwdriver, there's almost no output from the far right pole piece on the bass side. I also tried touching a sewing needle to the poles to see if there was any change in magnetism, and sure enough, the pole in question has almost no magnetic quality at all! So what happened? Faulty magnet? Faulty pole piece? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

I've never really been a fan of Precisions, but after installing a P pickup in my Jazz bass and then borrowing an old Japanese Ibanez Precision copy for a month long tour...I developed a taste for them! Hence my newest purchase, this 1988 MIJ Fender 57RI (in my favourite colour).
