Does anyone on here use a Variax bass as their main axe ?
I'm not sure what that means, but I thought he'd done quite a good job. Shame about the lack of sound samples or comments on the results.
It was a wow/I am in awe smiley -
Up for sale is my Trace Elliot AH200 GP12 Series 6. The footswitch for this specific model is included, and this cost me £30 purchased separately (these are very hard to find and this is the only one of these I've seen with the footswitch). It comes with the rackmount ears, though they aren't attached. Similarly, the top of the case is not attached. I have the screws that originally attached these bits, but they all had the heads mashed when the thing arrived, I spent ages taking them out with pliers with the intention of getting new screws but never got around to doing so. This is a series 6 Trace Elliot, widely regarded as being the pinnacle of Trace's fine bass amp making history. The thing sounds great, and is fantastically loud. I was concerned when buying this about it being only 200W, but read an independent review on Harmony Central and saw one guy saying it blew most modern solid state 400W amps well out of the water, and having heard it I can only agree with what he said. I rarely have it above one click up from zero at home and never more than two. I have a Hartke combo now and it does all I want and need, so this has to go as financially I can't justify keeping it for a few gigs where I may as well just use my Sansamp. I'll post up a full rundown of the controls and some photos later on, but have to rush out to practice shortly. [s]I'm going to ask for £275 + postage, which will probably make it a round £300 shipped and insured to most of the UK.[/s] £225 posted and insured to the regular UK Don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions, Dan
Instead give it to Western warlords? 'Chav scum'? I suppose we could give it to MPs for duck houses. What do you suggest? Might I recommend nurses or other emergency service personnel - they seem to be untouchable in these kinds of arguments.
Come back with a reasoned answer and I'll dignify it with a response.
We shouldn't be giving a penny to Somalia, we need the cash here.
As I said it enrages me enough. Sod giving money to a bunch of anti-Western warlords.
Do they have to cash to help out?
They found £90m for Somalia, which went out on the quiet, and sure enraged me enough, I'd hope they could find some for their own people.
Riots and looting are usually exemptions on insurance policies. As for government compensation... not sure where you got that from...
I didn't know the first point, and the government will quite often help people out in situations such as this...

Surely this is classed as theft and they'll all get paid out? And if not, government compensation goes some way to cover the costs in this kind of event.

relicing = a waste of time and money and ruins what might otherwise be a great bass i reiterate my claim in other posts, I will "professionally" relic any instrument you like for a damn sight cheaper than Fender or equivalent will do it for

I wanted a bass so blew all the money teenage me could muster on a MM copy and tiny amp. After about 6 months of self learning where things were and playing songs via tab, usually revolving around Nirvana, Muse, RHCP and moving onto Metallica and Iron Maiden. I had instrumental lessons once a fortnight for a coupla months. but the guy was a guitar teacher, who didn't know all that much about bass and didn't teach me all that much (asides proper slapping technique, which I've since largely neglected). From there I honed my timing with Powertab and Guitar pro, and then band playing, writing etc opened up whole new areas to me. I'm no great shakes as a player, but I have fun doing what I do and that's enough for me. A few years back I was getting to the stage where I could just about play most things I wanted (fingerstyle only) and would say that it probably wouldn't take me too long to get there again if I worked at it, but my slap and tap leave a lot to be desired, and as for my DTing it's non existent, though I would love to learn it properly!
Well, I just went and plugged in my Thunderbird to my rig and even though I wasn't expecting a Precision Bass tone from it, I wasn't expecting it to sound so... how do I put this... sh*t! Honestly, the pick ups are terribly weak and have no top end punch to them. They're pretty much pure bass coming from them. It's almost like you've rolled off the tone pot and played it like that but here's the thing... I HAD THE TONE FULLY OPEN And yes, I did try rolling the tone pot off to see if it made a difference and it just made it even more bassier. Anyway, here's the dimensions of the pick up routes: 75mm by 42mm
Hmmm, I think I may well try and get the one with black hardware then, because then I have the black tuners which I prefer, I will be changing the bridge anyway, and can do so for a chrome one, the stock pickups aren't anything like as bad, thoguh they'll be replaced sooner rather than later, and I can replace the knobs for the old vintage ones if I really feel the need!

Correct me if I'm wrong but Paul Grey played a warwick thumb for a great deal more time than he was on ibanezes?

I was going to get an sr505 about 6 years ago, when I realised with a loan from the bank of dad I could afford a Warwick if I worked my backside off to pay for it, which is what I did. That said, I therefore played a lot of what are now considered 'older' models, and I have to agree with someone above, I never played a bad one. They were all consistently solid and good, and for the price, IMO nothing matches their consistency, save perhaps a Marcus Miller fender 4 string. Thing is, they never blew me away, they always just did the job. Never was a fan of that natural mahogany finish either. It sounds like the premium series described above fit the bill of good enough but not as pricey as the prestige series. That said, for the money, you can get second hand Warwick corvettes and sandberg basics crop up on here. They will almost certainly be more bass for your money, and probably won't lose anything like as much in depreciation as if you buy a new ibanez. But play them first to see what you think of the necks. My Dean edge has a super thin neck (thinner than an ibanez) I don't know if this applies to the 5th variants but they may be worth considering.
Hmm, I really need to try a Streamline.....
Make sure you avoid looking at it when you do, they look like they got left in the autoclave a little too long.... -
Could you hurry up and build this thing please, the anticipation is killing me!?
Nice bass. In a bid to answer my own qquestion I just made the mistake of looking for rare vintage Fender jazzes on the interweb. Now I have serious GAS!
If it helps they're not all that IMO. Personally I find the fender p necks are far too fat to ever play anything other than root notes on, and I once played a 63 or 73 J in a shop (I forget which but who cares) and the thing was so heavy I had a dead leg after 10 minutes, it'd be the dream buy for your chiropractor!
