1. I've used Yamaha PA for well over 10 years now and never had a problem. I'm sure you've made a good choice.
2. Looney you may well be but I suspect you've put together the best looking lightweight rig to date. If it sounds as good as it looks I'll have one before Xmas.
3.
Buying this rig is downsizing...
Yes but as I'm no longer gigging with the covers band I must sell the remainder of my PA gear before I buy anything. Got to de-clutter.
4. Can'y buy more gear until after my house move this autumn, I'm supposed to be downsizing! Looking forward to your review.
5. 1 or 2 gentlemen have recently paired the new Peavey Minimax head with the BF 110. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/285506-nad-peavey-minimax-500-watt-bass-amplifier-head/page__st__60
6. At present I'm using a TCE BG250-208 chosen for size, weight and convenience. The sound is pretty good for a 2 x 8. However, I now have GAS for what appears to be the perfect rig for me in that I imagine it to also have the heft that my previous Peavey head into an Ampeg 115 had. So, should I have the steel grill or the cloth?
7. I used a BC100 for a couple of years for pub's and WMC's. Roland watts are pretty loud. Good amps, not light. I use a TCE BG250 208 now. It projects well off stage but the Roland was louder.
8. For sale: Yamaha P7000S power amp, (2 x 700W) + Peavey PV231 EQ housed in a 4U gatorcase. Good condition. Try before buy. No offers or trades. Postage would be about £30. Best collect from WS8 6HU or meet.
9.
Wow; I knew that Status Quo were old, but 1500 years..?
10. Born 1948. 1998-ish picked up a bass guitar. 2016 still improving slowly and recently learned to play 'What a Wonderful World' by Louis Armstrong, (what a wonderful tune), and now a favourite on our playlist. As my old man used to say "nil illigitemi carborundum".
11.
Is it a private party or at a venue? Henley is very local to me indeed.
I don't know, it's at Jubilee Gardens on the 5th at 1.30 pm. It would be advertised locally if public I would imagine.
12. Next month my jazz band is performing in Henley in Arden at a garden party in celebration of the HM the queen's birthday. I do hope everyone will be on their very best behaviour and attend suitably attired.
13. If I owned an expensive instrument I think I'd be frightened of bashing it. I'm relaxed and comfortable playing any of my 'less than £200' basses. In fact an expensive instrument would make me cautious about putting a ding in it.
14. Nowadays I leave my Ampeg cab and Peavey head at the community centre for music club use. To carry around I use my TCE BG250-208. At 26lbs it suits me fine. I'm 69 this year and can't be arsed to shift heavy gear around anymore.
15.
I met him briefly after a gig at Nottingham some 20 years ago. Also found him softly spoken but polite, and tall!! Had a chat with him, then watched him get into the rented Merc parked outside and drive off quite quickly. Only problem being it was onto an apparently empty 2 or 3 lane ring road, but in the wrong direction! The traffic lights changed and lots of vehicles started heading towards the Merc. Quick as a flash Chuck did a smoking 180 degree turn and sped off ahead. For a few seconds I actually thought I was going to witness the demise of one of rock's most influential figures....
16.
I'm going to take a wild guess that you mean Hi Ho Silver Lining ...
Yes, thank you. I'm afraid my memory is getting worse.
17. For the more mature audience there quite a were a few - 'Do You Wanna Dance', 'Everywhere and Nowhere Baby', '500 miles', 'My Girl' and most 12 bar Rock and Roll. But every 3rd number would need to be a slow one so they could get their breath back.
18. Here, here. Though sometimes those who indulge themselves in a "misguided sense of art" can be very entertaining. A little bit of cheese now and again don't do no harm.
19. Agreed, a likely candidate is any/all electrolytic cap's used for decoupling. I often just changed the lot for starters in oldish amps.
20. Great post and only 1 full house so far. I score 2. If you're in a covers band you are there to entertain and if you get the audience dancing and singing or sitting and tapping and clapping then that's good. My band often finished a night with 'Everywhere and Nowhere Baby' into '500 miles'. Not very tricky basslines but it never failed to fill the floor with happy folk singing along. If it's an important gig such as a wedding or birthday celebration you are part making someone a memorable ocassion and it's for them you play. And if you evoke a nostalgic smile or a tear then thats good too. Hank Marvin was asked if he ever got tired of playing 'Apache'. His answer was that there will always be someone in the audience hearing it live for the first time and he plays it for them.
