1. i bought a bridge with the adjusters on ebay from China for £21 dont know how they do it, but its great, good bridge and the brass adjusters work fine. cant remember exactly, but I think it was about a fiver postage and took about 7 working days to arrive. some of the chinese stuff is amazing!!
 2.
Thanks velvetkevorkian. This does make sense, but I do have grief playing other people's basses... I think maybe if I raised the action on my bass a little bit it would help me build up my stamina and strength a bit more.
I have my action real low on both my double and eub, its a doddle to play, and makes articulating so easy i can play most of the heads on the standards. Raise the strings and I'm f~cked. I think its a better sound if your playing totally acoustic, but its too much like hard work! If I survive the holocaust and there's no more electric, I might raise the action....who knows...who will care??

 4. Mex Jazz bass by Fender Electro Blue I think they call it - its kinda metallic. Two volumes and a pickup select switch. upgraded passive pickups by Kent Armstrong. 4 teminals coming out of each p'up. not sure what model p'ups they are - says Kent Armstrong underneath the p'up Each volume has a push pull function:: i think its series / parallel for each p'up. It could series / single coil for each - not sure really anyway, when they're in its a full fat sound, and when they're up it wipes the fat off and sounds jazzier. More bite for soloing. They don't make any any noise when they're working independently, which is good right! Otherwise its all pretty much as is. bass is in pretty good nick, the neck is in great shape with no issues and has a nice vintage colour to it. the red dot on the knobs are just a bit of the GF's nail varnish - it'll come off with her nail polish remover if you hate it. If you prefer the original jazz bass black knobs, they can go back on - s'up to the buyer had a p'up cover over the neck p'up at some point, so there's a couple of extra holes in the plate where it once lived.
 5. hey, I got an automated reply, o they might respond - you never know...........!
 6.
Yep, didn't want to be the one to say it. They get tens of thousands of such emails each year, and they all go to the small circular storage facility on the floor just to the left of the desk of head of Customer Relations. There are a few websites in the USA that will do it for you for a small fee but, well...... C
worth a try - just to keep everyone happy - geez...I'm bending over backwards here.!
 7.
I was just about to say!.... Easily the best way to sort it, send them an email and start a thread over on the Fender Forums! Si
good idea,..just sent the serials to Fender... lets see what they have to say
 8.
Hi mate I don't think it's a fake MIA Artist/Tribute by any means, but if you were sold it as a Custom Shop Relic - especially if it was from a dealer - I imagine you would be substantially out of pocket (some dealers are idiots, or criminal. There's a 'Fender Custom Shiop' Precision that I played two years ago and identified as a fake, but the dealer still insists it's real, despite not one identifying mark other than a dodgly looking CS neck plate, and has it for sale at £2000). The fact that the dots are on the lines is interesting, in part because I let my Jaco Relic go as I could never get used to dots between lines (and a few other reasons for sure!). I'm sure some of the experts on here will help you identify which Fender series it is Cheers Chris
I didn't by it from a dealer, this was a swap for my Warwick $$ double buck, and on reflection, the guy told me it wasn't a CS. but a tribute bass, but I misunderstood, for which, once again I apologize to everyone.# Wasn't trying to rip off anyone. Anyway, there's no way you can rip anyone off here on this site, too many bass geeks, and anoraks nerds around here to pull a fast one - which I'm increasingly also morphing into.....!
 9.
Shonks If, as seems to be the case, you might have been unfairly treated by the seller of this bass, there is substantial expertise in both basses and law on this forum, so don't be afraid to ask for help in dealing with the situation. Although most of the time these things end up with the buyer having to put it down to experience, in some cases things can be resolved. Chris
seller got back to me and told me the history of the bass, and is quite insistent that its genuine and purchased from the bass Center. The 'T' serial seems good, and the paper work with it seems genuine. It does have a cert of authenticity from Fender. He insists its an inbetweenie of the CS and current Tribute Bass and currently discontinued. I wonder if all the so called experts here do really know it all...Fender have had so many different models, its difficult to keep up. All the specs of the current Tribute Match with this one, case, neck plate accessories etc. The players dots however, are on the fret line rather than between . That's the only difference I can see. The only issue it seems is the ways it is relic'd. It has a beautiful neck with the truss at the butt, with screwdriver slots (not allen key) the right machine heads (long reach, reverse gears, fixing stud through the elephant ear) Flat top knurled P bass knobs with screws not allen keys. Vintage 60's bridge - copper earth - all the electrics look right. High quality 60's style wiring. Had the p'ups out, and it all looks kosher!! all have the copper plating under the p'ups and controls. And to top it all, it plays and sounds awesome - so if this is a fake, I'll eat my grandmothers remains. don't know what else to say............but thanks for all you help and interest!
 10.
Are you going to change / pull the Guitarmart ad..?
guitar mart ad has been changed - thanks
 11. below is how I modified the 'bass for sale bit at he top of this thread....... Jaco Pastorius Tribute bass, I seemed to have caused quite a heated debate with this bass! I'm not up to anything dodgy - and have been told by Bass Chat members ( see below) it don't match with any Fender product out there. So its my loss or gain, which ever way you wanna look at it. I'm gonna have words with the guy who sold it to me. sorry if it wound you all up. still a great bass though..........! all the best!!
 12.
If you're thinking that it's the Bass Centre tribute "Signature Edition" released in '91, it's not. It's missing it's edition number. Oh, and it's the wrong case.
ok, everyone seems convinced its a fraud, - so its off - the bass is not for sale! Thanks for everyone's input. I'll get in touch with the seller.
 13.
It's (hopefully) a genuine Fender Artist model that would originally have been bought with no 'relicing'. These are nice basses that retail for about £1350. Somewhere along the line someone has 'reliced' the bass and passed it off as a CS bass. Shonks has listed it here (I'm sure in good faith) as a special CS version, which it certainly isn't. An Artist bass in good condition would probably sell for £700-900. It would be up to the individual buyer to decide whether 'relicing' such as this would increase or decrease the value of the instrument.
was described in good faith as i said, but have changed the description and removed the custom shop aspect in the description. Never the less, there's to much authenticity about this instrument to be a fraud. If it is a fraud, it probably cost the counterfeiter more than it would have cost Fender to put this together. It's genuine, I'd stake my reputation on it. I've been playing professionally for 38 years, and I know a good bass when i play one, Fender or not. the serial tallies with the sellers explanation too. 14.
Yup That 'version' has never and doesn't exist. £400 for a Fugazi needing a refin is just about right. The non damaged USA Artist versions fetch £650 - £800; a decent 3 colour burst nitro refin is £200 - £400 depending where you go. The hardware has also been scratched up. Shonks, i'm not trying to destroy your thread, but i think a few of the guys on here (myslef included) feel like we're being led down the path a bit. We've had 3 different product descriptions over the course of an evening. As well as a few Sketchy changes in it's history. I suggest a Mod closes this thread - and Shonks relist it for his mate as a rough condition USA Artist 'Jaco' Model for offers around £800?
this was a deal done thru a Gumtree ad - the prevoious owner wasn't a mate. The serial number checks out on the Fender site as a 'Tribute series' bass
 15. hey no one;s leading anyone up the garden path here. To start the thread anew might be more interpreted as such. I just put what i thought was an honest add.Thankfully you've all put me right on this. Anyone interested in this bass, can review all this chat to date and make up their own minds about it. I think thats a more honest approach There's nothing to hide here, loads of pics, and plenty of discussion. I still wouldn't sell it for the price of a mex fretless Jazz bass, which I have. I may sell that and keep this, it sounds so cool, but I'll just wait and see what happens, but thanks for your offer - appreciated!!

 18. well, Ive certainly caused a bit of a debate with this one!! I believe my seller. He's a great bass player and seemed a good guy. If Ive been duped, then so was he I think. however, according to him, he took it to the bass center, and a a guy called Chris assured him this is a genuine Tribute bass but not the custom shop version. It is a discontinued cheaper relic version of the CS which originally sold here in the UK for around £1600. Apart from all this, the bass sounds fantastic, and plays like a vintage Fender should. Has quite a hi output, and an unmistakable organic sound. It's one thing to have Jaco's sound, but to have his technique would help too.............lol!! Thanks for all your comments, very much appreciated!! Its still up for grabs, but not at £400 - sorry folks!!
 19. and i quote from the seller: " I spoke with a guy with bass center and he said they only made a few Tribute basses, thats why the serial starts with a 'T'. its def real, but not a custom shop, as they are much more expensive.
 20.
Those pics are not of the Custom Shop Jaco Bass, have you posted the wrong attachments? C
if its not, what do you reckon it is then? It was a swap and I was told convincingly it was genuine. its got everything i said in the adds descrpition
 21.
does it have a Custom Shop logo anywhere? Or a Certificate of Authenticity? Just wondering...the relic'ing looks a bit too light to be the Tribute. http://www.infographic.com/fender/detail.p...enderPN=0196108 Happy to be wrong. Just thinking aloud.
it's the real thing, although not the CS come and check it out!
 22. Jaco Pastorius Tribute bass, I seemed to have caused quite a heated debate with this bass! I'm not up to anything dodgy - and have been told by Bass Chat members ( see below) it don't match with any Fender product out there. for anyone who's not sure, as I was at first - this is it!!.......... It just so happens this is a genuine USA made Fender with vintage quality parts, and matches the Fender spec for the Tribute Series. It has a Tribute series serial neck plate and number, and comes with the certificate of authenticity. Everything about this bass is right. The relic job on it may or may not have been a DIY job. Personally, I don't think its as tacky as the custom shop job. This is not the £3000 custom shop bass!! This is the £1500 Tribute bass a wicked bass to play, and a wicked sound and that's that!! comes with all the stuff Fender supply with this bass...ashtrays, individual string mutes, thumb rest, rubber sticky thingy that sticks on under the bridge cover. Has the long stemmed reverse gear machine heads, vintage bridge, copper plate shielding, textile covered wires under the control plate, vintage 60's pickups, knurled 60's flat top P bass knobs. Originally strung with Fender tape wound strings which are still in the case. The case is a 60's retro USA made Fender case including the keys.the sale is back on, I want £900 for it thanks for reading all this - now read all the posts here - have a larf! .
 23. I had an Alembic series II omega, almost like the Mark King bass, but without the stupid point on the the bottom. Now I have osteoarthritis - thanks Alembic. It's a heavy mother, and you cant lean it up against your amp if it has that stupid point......what's the point?? Doesn't sound as good as a Fender Jazz with new strings on it anyway!! Don't waste your money - its all hype! And another thing.....the laminates at the back of the headstock, look great, but is very weak, and I know of more than one alembic that's snapped off its headstock - ask Steve York!! and mine came unglued....!!
