1. Firstly im jealous you are on tour - i wish iwas asking this question lol. There has to be space for a spare head in the van, surely? Yes, get a backup. Anything SS around 500 watts will be better than no sound if the worse happens on the night. Dont get caught out - it takes less than 5 mins to swap heads. Ive had to before. Cheers Geoff
2. I was looking around for a maple board P copy - I already have a Vintage V4 with rosewood, and like that one very much so they were my first port of call. Originally I was about to pull the trigger on their Vintage White with Maple, and then they released the Tony Butler version: black on black, with maple board - perfect for me. Mind you there's also something very nice about that vintage white finish. When I first got it, the strings were too high at the nut, so popped it into my local guitar shop (Old School Guitars in Newhaven, great people) and now it's a dream to play. Very well made overall, beautiful to look at, delightful punchy sound - and I really like the difference to a Rosewood board. Gonna use it at a gig on Friday, and am looking forward to it. Just thought I'd say.... Cheers Geoff
3. Thank you for this review post - it's is very interesting. Cheers Geoff
4. What Hamfist said I reckon I go bass -> pedal -> amp
5. also, what cab are you using? I'm using a BF Compact. Cheers Geoff
6. hi One thing ive never had a problem with is cutting through the mix with my Terror Bass. The eq appears to be passive, and typically flat will be bass & treble fully off, mid fully on. I tend to use bass at 12 oclcock, mid about 11 oclcock and treble somewhere between fully off and 9 oclock ish. Those settings work very well with my Jazz. Cheers Geoff
7.
Cheers Monster.....advice appreciated
If you do decide to go for the MBE410, let us know how you get on with it. I for one would be very interested. Cheers Geoff
8.
I'd be pretty disappointing at a Sleep tribute with mini amps. Unless they were all midgets, that would be awesome. Now I am going to be disappointed at a Sleep tribute that isn't midgets.
Barefaced Midgets, you say?
9.
Details of the Compact please! Interested.
I will be putting up a separate advert for the Compact, but basically it is one of the first generation ones with plastic interlocking corner protectors. I've also added some chunky rubber feet to the base and side. Other than that it's the same as the current model. I've had it a couple of years. Cheers Geoff
10. I've added some pictures for your enjoyment.... Cheers Geoff
11. Folks As the subject line suggests, I'm parting with my Ashdown ABM500 Evo 3 (UK Made). It comes with a Roqsolid cover (black with white piping) and the Ashdown FS4 footswitch which allows you to switch Valve, EQ, Compressor and Sub Octaver. It is only a few months old, and is in mint condition. I've been using it with a pair of Barefaced Compacts (one of which is now for sale) and it does sound rather delicious. I'm looking for £330, and I'm based in Newhaven. Cheers Geoff
12. I've been using my budget Sennheiser Freeport for a couple of years now. Never had any reception issues, and keeps my tone intact. Not in the same price, and i assume quality, bracket as the ones mentioned above though. Cheers Geoff
13.
I know, its like the Sadowsky Talkbass equivalent at times.
hmmmm i wonder if BF do endorsements
14. How much?? For that price you can get a Compact and a cover. Ok, the BF may not have a high frequency unit, but even so.... Of course you could also look at the Super 15, but I prefer the modular approach of two 15s. The BF alternatives are much lighter too. Cheers Geoff PS Looking at the recent threads on here, Alex doesn't need a marketing department - we do that for him lol
15. What's a tweeter? Do they come with budgies? Or with someone who uses a certain social networking site? Will get me coat....
16. Ditto here too. I bought a replacement driver from Lean a couple of years ago. Top notch service. Sounds like it's still that way! Recommended. Cheers Geoff
17.
Is it based on the rear parcel shelf of a teenager's car?
With at least one Compact in the boot
18.
Is it based on the rear parcel shelf of a teenager's car?
With at least one Compact in the boot
19. I use an OTB with a Compact, and it seems to do everything I want tonally and volume wise. It's great being able to give the Compact a good workout with the Orange. Recommended Cheers Geoff
20. All very strange indeed. After reading issue 2 I was considering a subscription, glad I waited now. Cheers Geoff
21.
Another Bareface endorser here. Compact is superb. Midget is awesome. Compact + Midget is cab Nirvana.
Oddly enough this pairing never really did it for me, so I sold the Midget and bought a second Compact. Now that is a pairing! Cheers Geoff
22. I've not used any of the Orange cabs. However I have been using an OTB500 with a single BF Compact, and it pretty much satisfies my needs tonally and volume-wise. And together they weigh 17Kg. I cannot imagine needing any more volume than that on stage without completely deafening the rest of the band (along with myself). The OTB is able to supply 500W into either 4 or 8 Ohm load, and this suits the Compact perfectly. I'd thoroughly recommend a Compact. Cheers Geoff
23. I've enjoyed issues 1 and 2 - when is number 3 likely to hit the virtual shelves? Cheers Geoff
24. +1 to the Terror Bass through my Compact: never fails to please me. Also use an Ashdown ABM500 which is a totally different sound, but just as addictive. Both heads sound very loud through single or two Compacts. However, at the moment the TB plus one Compact is a winning combination. Cheers Geoff
25.
If it's 500W at 4 ohms, it'll be somewhere about 330 - 350W at 8 ohms.
That sounds about right to me....
