3. To be honest, if it's just stage monitor you are after then a Midget with the Terror Bass would be an ideal choice, I reckon: small, loud & light. Why not make use of the one-month money back trial offer on a Midget? That way you get to use it in proper gig situations, and if it isn't for you, then back it goes. Cheers Geoff
4. I tried one of these today in a local music store. Very solidly built, not particularly heavy (I think they are supposed to be about 20kg), really very loud for the rated wattage. Some interesting amp models and effects (I have the cube 30 bass at home for practice, so am used to these). I found the sound to be very tight and punchy, no unnecessary wooliness in the bottom end of things. I'd give one a try - you may be pleasantly surprised. I'm seriously considering getting one - although the GK MB212 is also on my radar, but the effects, compressor and built in tuner of the Roland, plus it's build quality and my experience with the Cube 30 are huge sway factors to be honest. Cheers Geoff
5. Might have been me. I had a Compact/Midget setup which was great, but really wanted to see what dual Compacts would do. After discussions with Alex, I decided to take the plunge and very grateful for his advice. I've always loved the sound of the Compact, and now have simply have more of that with having 2 of them. They really fill the sound out, enveloping the band - and that delicious mid range clarity that cuts through effortlessly. Don't get me wrong, Compact/Midget is great - but just not for me or what I was looking for. I'd recommend getting a compact to start with and using that for a while, which is what I did for a year: It's plenty loud and clear on its own. As an aside, I sometimes run the 2 compacts with a Micro VR head - most enjoyable. Probably better sounding than my ABM500 in some ways. Cheers Geoff
6. I would also consider trying a Barefaced Compact if you get the opportunity - either borrow one or use the Barefaced one-month money-back trial. I did this and was able to use said cab in gig situations during that time to give it a proper workout. And these cabs are currently on offer. I now use two of these cabs driven by Ashdown and am mightily pleased with them. Cheers Geoff
7. Lol I already had but it doesn't confirm what was said in the musicradar video clip (or I missed it lol). No big deal though, does look like an interesting offering from Ashdown. Cheers Geoff
8. Just saw a musicradar video on youtube about the MiBass, with Dan Gooday. He mentions that it will put out the full power into either a 4 or 8 ohm load, like the Terror Bass I assume. Can anyone confirm this? Can't find a manual on the Ashdown website.... Cheers Geoff
9.
sorry - i was talking about the GK being un-ported (is that a word?) http://www.gallien-k...mbe_series.html
Yes so was I According to the product leaflet (downloaded from that page), all the MBE series are front ported. Looking at the freq response it appears they are tweetered too. At that low price hopefully not one of those hissy, harsh things. Cheers Geoff
10.
the ashdown shares more or less the same specs as the gallien krueger 212 MBE cab (the GK handles 600 watts and doesn't have a port like the ashdown) has anyone tried these a/b style? they're pretty much the same price too....
Spooky stuff - I've been looking at this cab too. Are they not ported? I'd assumed they were - probably incorrectly. Any comparison would be mightily interesting Cheers Geoff
11.
If you've got a Micro VR, why not use the specially designed Ampeg 2x10 to go with it?
A fair point. Thing is I'm after a single cab ideally, and I'd need 2 of the Ampeg SVT210AVs to get the full power of the mighty Micro VR. Also, each weighs just a little less than a single Ashdown LB212 (which is 4 ohm and will draw the full oomph from the head). Cheers Geoff
12.
I have one and that sounds about right. I'm not sure the VS212, which replaced the LB212, has the same neo drivers in it though (plus it's 8 ohms), so if you can find an LB212 get one!
Thanks for that - I may well order one on spec and give it a shot. No laughing please , but I'm looking for a single cab just like this I can use with my Ampeg Micro VR. I see the VS212 specs quote something like 30kg weight-wise, which surprised me a bit, so yes you could well be right about it not having the same neos inside (plus like you say, it is 8 ohms). Cheers Geoff
13. I know I'm resurrecting an old-ish thread here, but can any owners confirm that the LB212 does actually weigh only 14kg? I'm rather tempted by one of these as a one-cab answer for some gigs. Cheers Geoff
14. Sorry folks, I've taken the Micro VR off sale for the time being. Cheers Geoff
15.
Jazz GAS sounds so wrong
Hilarious Cheers Geoff
16. Is this delightful instrument still available? Cheers Geoff
17.
Cheers Geoff, but me and L are just mates, as my wife will confirm!
Oops I'm sorry lol, apologies to everyone! Will get me coat.... Cheers Geoff
18. I sold my Ibanez SR700 to Ben's girlfriend Laura. Both lovely people and a good transaction (sounds like ebay feedback lol). I hope Laura enjoys learning the bass on her Ibby Cheers Geoff
19. Mike is now the happy owner of my Barefaced Midget. What a great guy to deal with - he paid very quickly and we sorted out the delivery side of things just as rapidly. You can deal with Mike with total confidence. Cheers Geoff
20. hi all Is the mobile version available yet? I came across one around the same time as the recent upgrade, but it appears to have vanished. It was really good, too! Cheers Geoff
21. That was pretty quick. Mind you it is a good amp and the price was very reasonable. Cheers Geoff
22. Well I used the dual Compact stack last night in anger. Typical pub-band venue (eg a pub lol) which is quite spacious with sofas, chairs, tables etc. Plenty of soft furnishings, and a not-too-high ceiling. I've been using the Compact/Midget stack for a few months now - with a number of different heads, last night was with an Ashdown ABM500 EVO3. I've enjoyed using the Compact/Midget stack but felt that perhaps the Midget was shifting things tonally too much for me - so thought I'd try the dual Compact route. I must admit I really could have done last night's venue with just one Compact (which I have done before) without problem, but what the hell.... lol Right well first off, the volume level of the stack was astonishing. I could have shaken the optics off the bar wall if I wanted. The ABM seems to have endless amounts of low end stuff - too much for this venue. I backed this off quite a bit and boosted low/hi mids to balance the sound to how I like it. Tonally it was what I have been looking for. I've always loved what the Compact does - more so than the Midget. Plenty of low end, but with such clear and defined mids that let you hear every tonal change and nuance of playing (not that I have such fine nuances in my playing lol). I was able to head out into the bar area using my wireless, and I was very pleased with what I was hearing out there. Admittedly the Midget would cut through and project more mid wise, but for me it was verging on too much - and now having twice the sound of one Compact is a lovely thing to hear. Everyone is different I guess. Well that was my little gig-gear report.... Cheers Geoff
23.
If you can ship it, I might be interested. And pay shipping - shouldn't be much through interparcel
I shall check out the shipping cost and get back to you Cheers Geoff
24. Hi all - My Midget (complete with Roqsolid cover) is up for grabs. NOW SOLD FOLKS. Great condition, been gigged a few times but always stored and transported in the cover. Prefer pickup or meet within reasonable distance. Cheers Geoff
