Ah yes.. a sure sign of SX addiction ..... The scratch plate on Neil's Jazz was a fantastic tortoise shell pattern. Where do that come from Neil?
It was a generic J plate from our local Gig Gear shop. www.giggear.co.uk

+1 for the Thumper pup, got one in my new SX P bass. fantastic service and product.

Si, Nice mate, very nice. I think Kurt at Rondo must be in to us for some commission by now, either that or set up a SX-UK emporium.
Ah yes I think that was the colour of NeilB's SX Jazz that passed through my hands last night en route to my mate Ash who's just bought it. It's more yellow than my "vintage white" Fender used to be - and we called that "The Custard P" - the SX has a touch of green, oddly ... I'm still waiting for my used SX P from a bloke in Colorado .. I think the US or UK postal service has eaten it ... I've been playing the unmodified SX Jazz I used to have at the jam session I go to where my tutor (who now has it) is the house bass player. There's 4 or 5 good bass players who regularly attend and they are all well impressed with it. I think a few more orders will be popping up from around here...
Si, you seen my new SX P??
Sick of waiting for mine already and I only ordered it on the 8th! The FedEx tracker says estimated delivery by the 18th. That's shocking! Not only do I want a US Fender quality bass for £96 including delivery, I also want it NOW!
The FedEx site said mine was due for delivery to my door on the 14th Jan. It arrived 2 days ago. Ignore the Fedex site. It will be with you by mid next week.
This guy's still at it! Every week he puts up an auction for this bass. It's been posted on here so many times I feel I actually own it. He bought a refinished/repaired bass from a well know dealer in the US and is having no success in sorting out some compensation, resorts to relisting it on ebay instead.
+1. yep, bored of this guy now.

Best Bass Players of New Romantic Era
neilb replied to Bass_In_Yer_Face's topic in General Discussion
If we are talking 80s bassists, then Derek Forbes has to be mentioned. gave Simple Minds their early distinctive sound. Better by miles than all that late 80s stadium anthem sh*te with John Giblin and Malcolm Foster. -
Well you'd have to hope that at least the Royal Mail wouldn't lose it Depending on location, I couold probably sort delivery or meet half way with this Cheers Chris
Poor Chris, the miles he has done for this amp!!! Keep well mate. Neil -
What is the hardware like? Decent enough tuners and bridge? stays in tune etc? I'm maybe looking for a jazz to try some Dimarzio's in, and their white/yellow 70's esque one looks nice. Alder body. I seem to remember the bass you brought Neil was a lot more yellow then what it looks in their pics. Was the one you brought listed as 'Vintage Yellow'? Si
Yes, caution advised. The J i bought was advertised as Vintage White. I am going to replece the bridge and tuners this week when the stuff arrives. Tuners are functional but a bit cheap feeling, they turn a bit clunkily. Put the Wizard Thumper pup in....nice!!!
Can anyone who has one can tell me about the neck? Ta
Its quite a chunky neck, similar to a MIJ P I had in the early 90s. Difficult to say as even Fender P profiles changed depending on year. Hamster - why not take a gamble and get one and find out. Ebay will always help if you dont like it. Hope that helps Neil
I am hoping to leave everything stock (apart from the plate) I remember listening to samples of an SX jazz on TB, A/B'd with a Fender...and there wasn't enough difference to worry about! Neil, where did you get the plate from and did you get a US, Mex or Jap one? P.
Thats the white plate it came with, I havent changed it.
Looks lovely. I am very tempted to get the maple fretboard version. How much was shipping? And with your modding experience, are the scratch plates standard Fender size? Ta. Paul.
Shipping is via FedEx - $70 (£35 ish). The Fender plates need a little work round the neck pocket area, other than that, not bad fit. Im gonna leave this one white tho!! This is my 2nd purchase from Rondo and the service has been great. Products great and price....well....great!! Nice choice Paul H!!! To be honest, Im getting to the stage where I care less and less about whats written on the headstock. I think my Aerodyne is safe for now though......just!! A new set of Wizard Thumpers (thanks Andy!!) have landed on my doormat for this little beauty!!!

Can I play? Taken by our photographic bod of me and my Aerodyne:

As you probably know I sold my SX Jazz to OldGit, who got it for a mate. Just received my new SX Precision in 3TSB. Not joking, the finish is beautiful, neck pocket perfect and the neck straight as a dye. Wood grain is really nice. Ready to mod it a bit now!! Click on the header of the pics for a clearer image, the reduced ones are a bit fuzzy, its not my camera technique!! £110 (bass actually cost me $110- about £55 for Gods sake!!) and here from US in 4 days. PLEASE, I implore you, if your after a knockabout budgeter, look no further. ** I do not work for Rondo, honest!!**
