Well I had a go at Pimp my Bass too The neck was just too orange for me so I rubbed it down. That also cocked up the decal so I put on the obligatory Fender one. The Badass II bridge meant that I had to shim the neck to suit. The SX pickups were quite good actually but I had some Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders in the bits box so they went on too. I do like torty plates so a secondhand one of those got a new body to live on. Topped off with some LaBella Deep Talkin flats it sounds pretty good Hamster
Nice bass matey, but why the Fender decal? Is it that important? A bass is a bass, a good bass is a good bass. Before, your instrument was a great SX, now its a mediocre Fender at first glance.
You can't run two amp channels into one cab unless there are two or more speakers in the cab that have been wired up independently of each other (so you're effictively connecting to separate speakers that happen to be in the same enclosure).
+1. Ashdown make a Neo cab which is a single cabinet with 4x 8 speakers in. They are wired in separate pairs (ie two sets of two). The cab has two inputs, esp for use with the SF amp. Its effectively two 2x 8 cabs but in one box. About £400 IIRC.

Sounds like the output pot has shorted somehow. They are mounted directly onto a verticle PCB IIRC. Try taking the case apart and spraying a load of contact cleaner (Maplin) in and around the output pot. Also check on the "solder" side of the board near to the three pot contacts. The short MAY be visible.

SX neck SOLD
neilb replied to Jamesemt's topic in Accessories & Other Musically Related Items For Sale
Here for sale are a few SX bits: SX '57 Jazz Body complete with standard neck pickup/EMG Select bridge pickup/standard bridge/scratchplate/pots/pot covers. In excellent condition - there are a couple of tiny pin-head size dents, but apart from that its pretty much immaculate. Looking for £40 with the white scratch plate or £55 with the tort scratchplate (which incidentally cost £45...). In fact everything you need bar a neck... Colour is supposed to be vintage white - think more like butter coloured. Only body issue is the bottom screw hole for the control plate has been drilled on an angle and is through to the cavity under the scratch plate. Easy enough to fix. SX Neck from a '62 Body with SX neck plate. This will need a small amount of sanding to fit the above body, but looks like it will fit (the other two halves have formed my best blue & maple SX) - the screw holes the other way around were about 2mm off... This neck is immaculate, having never been used. Blue headstock. Looking for £50. Am open to offers/swaps for the above (cash both ways too) - especially after a nice Jazz and would particularly like a Highway 1/Geddy. Also selling a couple of six strings (see my signature). Willing to do a deal combining any of the parts I have for sale...
Body looks familiar!!!! -
Me got a black non export too....love it!!
If you're after a P/J, why not try an aerodyne jazz? I have one with wizard overwound pickups and it is LUSH! Plenty dark with the P pickup, but roll the volume back on the p and turn the jazz bridge pup up full and it's all burpy and snarly! The more I play it the more I love it.
What he said.

The old GM premises is well and truly empty. I know Gav still lives in the locality. If I get any info, I will PM you and you can "knock on his door". Can say yet whether your EBS is still in his possession obviously.
-
I will speak to a mate of mine at Ashdown who used to work with gav and try to get a number for him. If I am able, I will give him a call and see whats happening and if I can , will try to get your amp. I only live down the road from Maldon. cant promise anything but will do my best.

Simple Minds - Glittering Prize = Tab anyone??
neilb replied to neilb's topic in Theory and Technique
I don't have the tab, but know the line well, here's Forbes & co. playing it back in 1982; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mubFaGE93Dk (6 songs from that Live in newcastle gig are on the Seen the lights double DVD) the intro riff at the 10th fret of the G and D strings is played an octave lower for the verse (on the D and A strings), and on the last bars pauses on the C and D, before going into the chorus, Bb, A, C, D in the choruses he also plays a D harmonic over the 5fret of the D string.
Great, it was the drop to the Bb which stumped me,many thanks. I have that DVD fortunately......SM at their best!! -

Ive worked out a little of this song, the main riff and the fact its in F. Does anyone have/know the tab they could share with me. The Real Me by The 'oo was easier the learn than this!! Thanks in advance, neil
There's a bit of a ham-fisted note (not wrong as such, but not what was intended) played by Adam Clayton at around the 3.40 mark on the track "Love Rescue Me" from U2's Rattle and Hum album.
Yeah, I remember spotting that one, stood out a mile in such a slow simple 3 chord song. IIRC, he goes up to the IV chord a bar early.Quick correction tho'!!
HOW EMBARASING!...........One Blonde, one Brunette..............................both in the same outfit Seriously, two gorgeous 3TSB Ps. Seriously considering an SX and selling on the MIM P I've just acquired
You wont need any encouraging from either myself, Paulh or Oldgit. The bass itself costs £55.....yes....£55. Add a few fees and VAT and you get it for £120 ish. Then mod away til yer hearts content. I would go as far as to say these are easily on par with MiMs, and for less than half the dosh. Go figure....... If you do take the plunge, order sooner rather than later as the Ps at Rondo tend to go very quickly.

I'm sure this group will grow over time, so heres a central gallery for all our new/modded Rondo wonderbasses. Next!!!!!

Paul I have just got some Oakey Extreme contour sanding pads (Medium) from B&Q and gently sanded the back of the neck down. Its taken away that glossy varnish feel and is now slightly satin in texture. Much nicer to play now and hopefully will prevent sticking when I gig her on saturday night!!!! Give it a go.
-
Ya buggers, you were right, it looks great with torty pickguard. Just waiting for the new tuners, bridge (fender style with spiral barrells) and string retainer (ordered one for back of the stock aswell!!!) Thumpers in already. Sounds awesome through my Trace.
OK ta Do you have a link to the pate in qustion? I can't find that particular nice one on there. OG
They dont put them on the website. Ive just bought a P version for my SX. You buggers have persuaded me that a tort will look better than a white one. The neck pocket needs quite a bit of "deepening" as the pups on the SX seem to be a tad nearer the neck than a Fender. Hey ho!

Fender Jazz that could be something else...
neilb replied to Sean's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I'm no expert on the Fender bit but it doesn't look too bad, I've seen enough crappy copies to think it isn't a screamer. WoT or some other Fender head could probably give pointers or Beedster has owned enough Fenders to have an idea At least the guy is giving his phone number etc and offering to let the buyer collect... all good points. If you were interested and lived local I'd suggest a quick call and make a daft cash offer!
+1 Looks a perfectly good Jap re issue to me, trust me, ive seen plenty. The "contour body" decal was put very close on the Jap re issues. It moved to the end of the stock around 1964. This looks a lovely Jap re issue, I would have no reservations is bidding. Warwickhunt is quite right, the bidder is giving every flexibility in collection so that indicates to me he has nothing to hide. If in doubt, ask him to email you a pic of the neck heel, where it should say "Crafted in Japan" along with a SN. All in all, not a scam in my opinion. -
Ah yes Chinese screws are a law unto themselves. Teh US/Eu ones will make it sound a lot better
+1 I changed the screw ring on the jack socket on my SX and the sustain I get now is............well!!
