Anyone bought from Thomann recently? Experience?

It'll tell you that if you go to your order status in Thomann's site, you won't get that status from DHL. -
Anyone bought from Thomann recently? Experience?

It's DHL being idiots. There's a black hole in their tracking. You won't get anything out of the tracking until it reaches the UK. It can take a week, maybe more. It's not Thomann's fault, except for them continuing to use these clowns. I hate the tracking black hole too, it's like your package is going round the back of the moon in Apollo 13. -
FIrst gig of 2025 last night and it was a cracker! Played with Nine Lives at Wilsons in Aberdeen. Was a little worried that it wouldn't be busy, being the middle of January and right enough when we first arrived to load in it didn't look great. But part way through the first set a big group of ladies came into the bar and they were well up for a dance. Plus a few regulars came along to support us, which was lovely. Not wishing to disappoint (and fearing that our enthusiastic dancers would naff off if we stopped) we decided against taking a break and just plowed on through the entire three hours. Plenty of songs in "the box" to plug in. Played some new stuff too which went well. I was a wireless pest as usual. Great to get back in the saddle. Because we didn't take a break, the second bass didn't make it out of its bag! Got a few weeks off, but we'll be back with a double header at the start of February. Gear was the Reverend Triad into the usual Markbass tone cubes. Footwear was a pair of Vans classic slip on in a teatowel/picnic basket cloth type pattern. Got complimented on them as well - bonus!

This borrowing gear business is playing with fire! And I thought a casual trip to the guitar shop was dangerous...

You're allowed, it's not against the rules or anything, pretty sure I've linked to TB before (assuming that's what you mean by "the other side"?)
-
Been there, done that. The G&L bridge has a single locking screw on the side which pushes all the saddles together and yes I have forgotten to loosen it before attempting to make changes to the setup. Which makes it quite a difficult time until you realise, yes

As I alluded to above, it might help it sell better with simpler electronics.

This is very exciting. If it had been a Big Al SSS, I fear this year's gear abstinence would have been out the window! I'm safe for now, but I applaud them making this much maligned weirdo in a more affordable package. It might even appeal to those who found a 4 band EQ a bit off-putting.
-
Are you gonna cite some sources evidencing a systemic problem, or did you just get a bad one and extrapolate out from there?
-
I've got one waiting to go in a bass which is on back order. Glad to hear positive things about the sound, and for the warnings about potential pitfalls (which sound like they're not dealbreakers).

Tomorrow night, first gig of 2025 for Nine Lives, at Wilsons in Aberdeen. Couple of new songs to go into the set, and a couple of dusty old ones got the cobwebs blown off them too!

Tonewicker and tonehair, innit?
-
Too high - you can get wireless bugs and many effects pedals for that. I would not support a blanket limit of any amount. Better to adjudicate by item type. Or, you know, just stay the f out of shops and online retailers...

I'm trying to get you off with a caution, I'd keep quiet if I were you I think shenanigans would be called if I purchased the three switch footswitch in order to use multiple Toneprints in my BH250 amp. Footswitches are gear, they are not consumables by any stretch of the imagination. They alter the signal path, ergo they're involved in the signal path.
-
Ahh, the bag would have been fine (or at least grey area) - "There used to be a convention that things not in the signal path didn’t count. So straps, stands and the like were allowed. I'm cool with that - what do others think?" Footswitch though, nae luck, sorry chief!

Honestly, I wouldn't even report a cable to this thread. Having spares is just good practice. Frankly, they're such humdrum, sundry items that I'm surprised it has generated this much chat. Is a cable even "gear"? What next, a plectrum? Also, if you have a cable fetish, or some other compulsion to buy them, then frankly I think you need more help than this little support group can possibly offer

What a bloody saga! I can only speak for myself but at this point I think I'd be giving up on it. Even if I got the wonky nut replaced, the change in dot markers would annoy me, and I'd be reminded of the whole sorry experience every time I clapped eyes on the bass. What a shame. I really do fear for G&L at this point - not only do they appear to have Lancia'd/Mitsubishi'd us and disappeared from the UK market entirely, stuff like this is very worrying indeed. You'd think that if you were replacing a faulty neck then you'd make damn sure that the replacement was tip top. Worrying times.
-
Not tension but compliance, feel. That's why I didn't use the word "tension". I appreciate that fluffy prose like "feel a smidge tauter" is not very scientific, but neither is much of the stuff argued recursively around here.
-
Unsolicited gifts are fine. Borrowing stuff is probably fine - if you're borrowing it, it's not really yours, no money changed hands, you'll give it back at some point. I don't think there's anything to see here (except for you being too lazy to palm mute )
-
I think leads could be considered consumables/sundries. I think I'd have to be in a real bad mood to get ar$ey about a cable. I reckon you're OK.

If we're allowed to stray off the Fender path, the Sire V7 can be had in Burgundy (Mist)... https://www.andertons.co.uk/sire-v2-updated-marcus-miller-v7-alder-4-string-burgundy/ https://www.thomann.co.uk/marcus_miller_v7_alder_4_bur_2nd_gen.htm Andertons won't have it for at least the next three months, but Thomann are suggesting they'll have some in the next week or so...

Well, I'm still hanging on in there. ETA projected to be week 7 now, slipped a further week recently. I really hope they don't pull the rug out from underneath me after all this time - it would be pretty mean to have had it advertised and still up on the website all this time. Plus I'm set on this bass now and have bought parts with this exact bass in mind. Please don't welch on me, Bax-music.
