  1. A neck through Yamaha BB of some sort. Gibson Grabber G&L SB-1 (modern with split MFD) I tried a Ritter once, I was scared in case I breathed on it wrong
  2. Here's way too much info about the "Wide Range" humbucker: https://lawingmusicalproducts.com/dr-lawings-blog/the-wide-range-humbucker-and-the-genius-of-seth-lover I had a short scale Fender with these pickups (Starcaster) and it was mud city. Played it live once and stayed on the bridge pickup the whole night just to try and get some cut through.
  3. 32. Mrs. Neepheid basically dragged me into a one-off ska/2 tone covers band for a birthday party after putting up with me buggering about with basses at home for a few years and doing more modding than playing. Joined my first originals band the following year and never looked back!
  4. Good gig last night in the Butchers Arms in Inverurie. Three quarters of the band had been absolutely full of the cold in the run up to last night, it was very much a case of kill or cure. I only started feeling more like myself the day before. Poor singer - he was really feeling it, high notes were an issue despite warming up and Vocalzone lozenges so we skipped a few he felt he wouldn't be able to do and juggled the set around a bit. It was a really cool audience though - they could see that he was struggling but powering through and not only appreciated the effort but really stepped in with the singing along on quite a few songs. Made it to the end, and I even got a couple of compliments on my playing - always nice to hear. Singer sounded like a frog afterwards, poor guy. Thankfully we've got a month off from gigs now so plenty recovery time. Weapon of choice last night: Reverend Triad. Even remembered to flex those series muscles a couple of times from the Freeway switch I wired in.
  5. I would love to have money like that to burn!
  6. Cons of flats on a Jazz - they're being fitted to a Jazz. I'm done, just some mild mannered trolling...
  7. Just make sure you can pick it up - I wouldn't trust them to send it to you. I bought a minty fresh Epiphone Thunderbird from a CC at distance and they wrapped it in some bubble wrap and hoped for the best - didn't even box it. Needless to say, it did not arrive unscathed...
  8. To Be Honest, last I checked.
  9. So, eboner for ebonol or not?
  10. It's gear. If it's not directly replacing a broken item, then I think you're out.
  11. I think I'm asexual these days. Or maybe I'm just lazy.
  12. A'body's skint, too skint to take a chance on a deviation from the norm, it would seem. In headier days I might have picked this up BECAUSE it is different, but right now, I can't afford to take undue risks. About to spend £280 on the house roof/gutters, car insurance is due next month, that's another £200 set on fire, whilst everything else is getting more expensive, basses are most definitely off the menu right now.
  13. I'm only funning with you. It's an odd fish, isn't it? Not sure what to think about it. That 24 fret fingerboard has been kinda jammed in there and compressed everything towards the bridge. Lovely finish tho, I concur.
  14. You've just seen it? Do keep up, they've had it for months!
  15. They're all going to sound utter gash, because they were never meant to be listened to in isolation.
  16. Boo! That is all. (actually, that's not quite all - thanks for rocking up here and being open and transparent about stuff)
  17. They clearly never tested in our rehearsal room then...
  18. The fact that my USA G&Ls had absolutely no attempt at shielding did irk me somewhat - what am I paying for? Then I got over myself and got going with the slug tape. RE: LB-100 > L-1000 - too much like busywork to me for a frankenstein which won't look right - it'll look exactly like what it is - an LB-100 with a regular MFD jammed in there and too many pots. At least an LB-100 has a chance to mostly resemble an SB-1...
  19. I think I've said this before, but if G&L made a Tribute L-1000, I would have bought that over a USA one. Comparing the USA ones to the Tributes, yes, they are "better" as I define it, but they are not the same order of magnitude better as the price premium. I think that USA production will eventually price itself out of contention for all but the most ardent of gear snobs - because most folk will realise that they can get 80% of the quality for 20-25% of the cost. The quality of the basses I have picked up recently at the lower echelons of the price scale have blown me away with their fit/finish, features and all round solid, reliable construction. That you can get a G&L Tribute LB-100 for £300 - which in my estimation is THE Precision bass you never knew you needed - just blows my mind. The only thing I found that they skimped on was shielding. Oh, and a bit of swarf in the nut slots, if you want to be super picky (like it was removed with a fingernail, really the nittiest of nitpicking going on here).
  20. The street address of a police station, perhaps?
  21. Copper tape shielding is not a glamorous job but strangely satisfying and when done right can make your bass almost silent, even in the most death-trappy rehearsal rooms! Outlay - a few quid for the slug tape, perhaps some soldering and some of your precious time. Oh, and 100% learn to do your own setups. Your basses will end up playing better, the way you know you like them to and for no cost other than your time. If I can learn how to do setups, anyone can.
  22. Widnae dream o' it... We should probably let the OP crack on with colour choosing, in English...
