1. BTW this isnt aimed specifically at wateroftyne as you may have a dislike to ashdown purely through experience.
2. haha, but what im saying is that alot of people judge Ashdown without even trying them, In many cases it is only because they do cheap amps that affects people's opinion not necessarily the quality of the amp. I dont disagree the quality of Ashdown has fell since they started making them outside of the UK, but unfortunately i havent been playing bass long enough to own a UK made Ashdown( i have played some) and it just seems that a lot of people have a very unjustified dislike to ashdown gear other than that they cater for all standard of players.
3.
Fairy nuff, but Ashdow *used* to be the pinnacle of British bass amplification. That's quite a brand to have. They should have come up with a sub-brand for this stuff, similar to Squier, so there's a clear distinction.
But why should there need to be a sub brand? fair enough Ashdown used to be Seen as a better brand, but if their producing the same quality amps higher up the market as before then what has them producing smaller more affordable amps got to do with their reputation, surely its just people having this opinion that 'because they do cheap amps their crap' that affects the reputation, not the acctual amps. Shouldnt it be Ashdown not producing as well made top range amps that tarnishes people opinion of them as a high end amp not the fact they do Cheap amps. I think in many cases, people Judge Ashdown amongst other brands before trying them because they have got this opinion of them. Obviously just my opinion.
4. Im gonna go and read it now...The new Fender usa standard looks nice!
5. came through the door this morning I havent read it yet just flicked through but im sure i saw an Overwater In the NAMM section that had a direct DI out of the bass aswell as a Jack socket! It was amongst other new overwaters!! The new Hartke range looks sweet too Anybody Read it?
6. I dont really like Behringer I went to buy one and was warned away from it and ended up getting an Ashdown Combo at a good price, i have since played them at rehearsal studios and i really dont like me at all! Peavey are great IMO... Heavy tho! But if it works for you then then fair enough just not my cup of tea
7. there is a fender MIM jazz active deluxe in my local music shop... im gonna guess this aint a good price at £599
8. cant believe this hasnt sold!!!!!!!!! Have a BUMP Steve!
9. that looks quality..both basses are gorgeous!
10. O and a m8 of my dads has got a spector like that! Hes a member on here somewhere!
11. yeah it would look stupid in all fair a fairness... That Jazz acctually looks quite good with Bucks on it, That would be a perfect bass for me acctually! maybe in a few years ill have a little project! Alex
12. Im bored so here goes. If you cold make your own bass with no restrictions what would it be. Forget about how it would look, How it would play together, the weight, the sound... Basically pick bits of basses you love and put em together! Mine would be: Jazz neck with maple neck, rickenbacker 4003 body in fireglow, Music man Humbucker pickup, active and passive like on sandberg's, Acctually that was quite hard to decide! Ive just realised this is actually quite a rubbish and pointless topic but hey as i said im bored! Let's hear em then! Alex
13.
Thanks Birdy but a bit out of my price range. Good luck selling it though. Does anyone know what the Hartke VX115 speaker is like? Its a paper cone, can handle 300W at 8 ohms and is only £165. My other option is the Hartke 115 XL but this is only 200W at 8 ohms. Would Hartke be a better option that Ashdown?
Ive own both Ashdown and Hartke and in all fairness there both quality amps... The Hartke (IMO) is abit of a dirtyer sound and has a alot of variation in the sound you can get out of it. However the ashdown is a bit more of a low, 'woolier' sound and has a nice motown kinda sound, Its a great sound and suited the rock band i played fine but as i said i wanted a bit of a grittier trebley sound( however i do still like some punch!!!) Plus i wanted separtes! Other people may think different and TBH its better if you go and try both amps and see what you think! As for the cab ive never played it. But ive got a 4.5XL and the XL cabs are awsome!!!! Alex
14. +1 x 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
15. yeah i thought it was something like that just didnt know the technical language lol! Cheers Alex
16. Transporter's are not as good as XL's IMO, There isnt loads between em its just the XL is built better and just throws it out more...However the transporter is still a quality cab and a lot lighter. Am i right in thinking the 4.5XL is different to the 410XL as the 410Xl has a horn and the 4.5Xl has a 5" speaker?
17.
4.5 but when I bought it from Sparky it was dead heavy and when I sold it to Bassboy, it was even heavier. Sound's greayt but you do need a roadie.
LOL but i guess it would have been lighter if we didnt try to light the Ashdown aswell! lol
18. Ive just bought a Hartke rig its quality! I doubt youll finsd anybody on here that has a bad thing to say about em apart fro the fact that the 4.5XL cab is bloody heavy!
19. IMO Guitarists generally sound the same with every piece of gear they use, they dont know of tone!! Plus alot of them use well known brands (fender, gibson, marshall) so people think there good even if infact they are rather s**t
20. its always better to have the power there and be able to turn down!
21. Ashdown are great the mag combo will be spot on for pubs IMO, plus with just the combo youll only be getting between 150-180 watts anyway so if you eventually want the full 300 you can get an extension cab!
22. behringer NO NO NO!!! there are way better options than that! Ashdown Yes! On both it just depends on how much power you want as as far as im aware they both have the same features! I used to ahve an ashdown Mag300 combo and it was sweet! Only ever tried a laney once and it was alright though i still prefered my own Warwick are generally very good bt again never tried the profet. IMO Go for the ashdown!
23. there not the worst bass ive ever seen but they would prob look better witha matching headstock. Id still prefer one in the above colour
