I'm considering defretting a Conklin GT7 with purpleheart fretboard. Can any body direct me to a source in the uk? Thanks in advance...
Hold on.... why not buy a Purpleheart Fingerboard? There's a place in Kent, near Tonbridge - http://www.exotichardwoods.co.uk/ Timberline, Unit 7, Munday Industrial Estate, 58-66 Morley Road, Tonbridge, Kent TN9 1RP Tel: +44 (0)1732 355626 I was there about a year ago. They had PH fingerboards. I think they might all have been ready slotted for frets, but it's worth a phone call.

I use tap washers from Homebass. At about 30p for 5 it's good value. There must be some more famous faces that use the red rubber though?

When watching Pino Sunday night I noticed he's using Grolsch washers. I then got to wondering how wide-spread their use is amongst those who could clearly afford to buy the flash technology. Can't say I've got very far, but I wonder how many folk we can find? https://youtu.be/DcFiQXKa9Ok Jeff Beck https://youtu.be/TRjiMN2qJHI Pino Palladino https://youtu.be/CnSfTEdAL-w Brian May

I just recon seeing folk play stuff that's low-tech, simple and effective would be great. You can record using a Web cam with an integrated mic, if you want to keep it really simple.
Anyone got any advice on how to do the actual recording? What gear would you use? I'm up for it anyway
Video would be good, even if it's only of you with bass and hands, so noobs can watch an learn techniques from others.
You bet they do, I distinctly remember walking through the school gates at 8:30, into year 5 room, turning on the valve radio we were allowed, tuned to Radio 1. I can remember Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, Jimi Hendrix and Status Quo.
I too remember growing up the Tony Backburn, Alan Freeman and DLT. They played music back then. But more recently I tuned into Chris Moyles breakfast show (I know he's gone now too) and he played no music at all whatsoever. Not even a gingle if I remember correctly. All you got was "conversation" comparing notes about t-shirt wearing or some such carp. These days, I have to confess I've moved on to Radio 2 - the preserve of the middle aged.
I notice Blue hasn't said how old he is in any of the "how old are you?" threads, which is quite ironic seeing as he mentions it in pretty much every other one...
True, but it's about 3 years now that he's been telling us he's 64. So we all should know that by now.
If you look on Amazon you can get this with a string cutter attached
The one I liked to has a cutter too. D'addario market them too.
I think I'd rather the 20 quid if I'm honest. Does seem like a great thing to have for a guitar tech though.
I've got 1 of these http://www.londonguitarstudio.com/planet-waves-prostring-winder.ir?src=froogle&gclid=CjwKEAiAuKy1BRCY5bTuvPeopXcSJAAq4OVsNkU7ko70z5iAl5ss18ET-wXgmnxa5YfDfPnRrlHhDRoC1LHw_wcB It saves loads of time.

1991 Warwick Streamer Stage 1 NT - 2 issues
Grangur replied to Josh's topic in Repairs and Technical
Warwicks are notorious for the plastic just-a-nuts breaking the tabs at the side. Is yours ok, or has it broken? I'm just wondering, if it's broken, have the string become misaligned on the neck? I have a SS1 with MEC pups too. The P pup is good. But the jazz pup output is pretty feeble. It doesn't bother me much as the P pup is pretty clank IMHO. This will be because compared to a Fender, the P pup is 50mm further towards the bridge than a Fender P bass. -
You mean Radio 1 plays music?
Go on, guys, create some new threads like this for your basses, you never know, you might strike lucky!
I know where mine went. I stupidly sold it on Evilbay. I stupidly got it posted without asking for a signature and the buyer lied to Evilbay and said it never arrived. I still miss it. It wasn't really amazingly special. I aim to build a replacement soon.
Honestly I can't be bothered dude. I'll stick to the classifieds section
I'm new to this thread too, so I'm in the dark here. But I would say to the TheBassist, you have a right to express your thoughts. It would be a sad world if you didn't. Also, nobody has a total right not to be offended at stuff. When you stop having the right to offend, then free-speech will be gone. Thebassist, please don't stress out. We've all been in you position, well I have anyway. Just take a day or 2 to chill and you'll be welcome back anytime. Good luck mate.
Agh good stuff, now can SOMEONE please find my avatar bass.....??!?!!
..and mine too while they're at it. My first bass that I refined Seriously though. So amazing to hear about ColinH's bass. Really hope it holds true to your memories of it. Good luck.

If it were me, I'd definitely buy used. But it's your choice.

A while back I did a refin of a Wishbass. I made a new nut and the strings virtually touched the FB at the top of the neck as they came out of the nut. You can get some low cost files off eBay that others have used for the job. I went about it with a bit more vigour, I used a dremmel disk like an angle grinder. Another way would be to replace the nut with a Warwick Just a Nut, so the height is adjustable.

Esp Ltd B55. I had a Fretless one. They have great necks and the weight is good. https://m.thomann.de/gb/espltd_b55blk.htm?o=2&ref=mmc_a_2&search=1453956040

Gary Willis alsi has some good videos on YouTube for fretless set up.
-
Fretless mwahh comes from the sound of the strings on the neck. The nut on a Fretless is lower than a fretted. Don't give up yet. File the nut slots so the clearance of the strings is only something like 0.3mm from the fingerboard.

You say money is a bit thin right now. The problem you face is that we all face that same problem. Unless you really need to sell, this is not a great time to be selling.
