  1. Hey Moki, I did i did (a cube 20) and it was a great little thing, these days im forced to use cans (please keep that noise to yourself) now i can't recall if i sold the cube on or if it got put in the attic or workshop somewhere...humm thanks for tripping the grey matter i'll try and find it!
  2. Hey Doooooooood /bow you still rocking/proging that custom 7 string? & Thx for the welcome back Yep i keep those basses around.....mostly as a ref for "how not to build stuff" & While i've been away from the Bass seat (i got into shred/fusion & classical guitar....sorry ) i did keep building stuff and even moved over to CAD/CNC just before Covid hit, I've been doing custom body and neck/fretboard work for folks who need a bit of help with their own builds or want replacement bodies for old gear etc etc for a few years now as well as some of my own guitar designs/builds, all spare/part time stuff but TBH im thinking of jumping into it full time later this year as a close death in the family has gotten me thinking about what i should be doing with my remaining days in this mortal shell (it also prompted me to pick up my basses again)...Im sure i'll get around to posting some build logs here soonish (i did post a few pics of current builds in the 3d printer thread) again thx for the welcome back You know if i only took note of YT as a ref for my question it seems you are 83.33333333333333 % correct ! (apart from the Warlock thing ) & YT was my first port of call to check in on what was New in the world of Bass....which i why i came here to ask the good Folk of BC for their input/output....seems Doublethump/sounding like a dotmatirx printer became a big thing ! Big thanks for all the feedback and replies /bow , Some of it is up my street, & other stuff not so much (although i am a lot more open minded that i was 15 years ago so i will give it all a listen) Other guys i've had on the new bassist (to me) playlist these past few days are Antoine Fafard (Sphere & Ad Perpetuum are both KIller prog/bass/fusion albums) & Felipe Andreoli - Resonance Johannes Zetterberg, some late 80/90's style fusion very CC EB Again thx for the replies and keep the rec's coming Cheers Gizmo
  3. that he did, well remembered Loved Randys stuff FMT was one of my first "bassist" fusion Cd's/Books and i learned a load about modes/slap/chords/harmonics from it
  4. So i've been out of the BASS/Bassist loop for a little while & after feeling the pull of the low end once again i thought i drop a post to ask about catching up on Who/What i've been missing out on for the past 15 years or so? My fav's of yesteryear player were/are guys like Bromberg/Manring/Hamm/Caron/Wooten/Malone/Miller/Larue/Campagnani/Nitti...etc, so all the slapper/taper/soloist kind of bassist that do the fusion/prog type stuff id guess, I've been catching up on these guys & sofar some good & some WTF is this mess moments Now i did drop by Youtube first to see what was up/down....BIG MISTAKE, WTF is with all this BASS BATTLE/Bass influencer stuff ? (no doubt at 52 im guessing its that i just "don't get it") 2 Guys that have popped up on the radar that i have on playback loop atm are Alex Lofoco & Fernando Molinari, both monster players that also have great tunes/groove...Id say that Alex is like all my fav player fussed into one with a health amount of himself, shame he only seems to have released one album in like 8 years? So any recommendations for me ? Cheers
  5. Thought of a 2nd i've always fancied. A Barrington, First time i saw one of these was on the cover of Randy Covens (R.I.P.) Funk Me Tender, Ghost built by ESP (before they were ESP) never seen one this side of the pond
  6. @BaggyMan Has a space 5 up here @BC at what seems like a great price, I tried one at fairdeal in bham last year, it seemed like it was a solidly built "modern" vibe bass with good smooth tunning headless hardware, might have been because it was hanging in an AC'ed show room but the neck was bone dry and im not a fan of the openpore satin finish type...had a few basses with it before and I found if you look at them they get marks/dents.....i pref a nice 80's lolipop highgloss
  7. I had much the same question earlier this month... n my case after a lot of YT review watching i grabbed a Sire Z7 5 string at just under £400 (b-stock) from Thomann....Lovely neck, a very versatile and great sounding Pup/Preamp set up, Quality hardware and finish that felt way above it's price tag...setup was dog doo but might have been due to changes made by the first buyer... all that said it's boxed up waiting to be collected by DHL for return because it's boat anchor heavy, not that i was expecting a Light bass due to the alder body, but the shortness of the lower horn makes it impossible to play while sitting because it either slips off you leg or neck dives. Id say Jakester's Yamaha above is a total bargain, id have taken it myself but 17mm is my max tolerance for spacing these days I've found. GL
  8. That's Mr Pink thank you very much
  9. so....i've arranged to return the Z7 to thomann, as i've said above once setup it was a great playing/feeling/sounding bass but it's just boat anchor heavy & the neck drive/unconfutable to play sitting was the straw... id be interested in checking out one of the MS headless sires, anyone get/tired one ?
  10. maybe the folks of Greenland can take up the slack !
  11. Here's a scan from my Bromberg issue of "Bass player USA" i think these were made between 94-98 not sure how many but i was told mine was one of the later revisions (with the fixed Piezo) & Rick Tunner had A Lot to do with the design of the gubbins/pups (even before Peaveys signing on of Bromberg (RT is in BB's Backstage pass VHS talking about the project)...seems there was quite a bit of fall out after the release though and everyone went their separate ways never to speak again (or so im told) I know from my own research that there were a LOT of problems with the PCB/Electronics/piezo a number of players just ended up ripping it all out and fitting the Bartolini NTBT-918 preamp & piezo buffer as a replacement...something i looked at myself years ago. One thing i do dislike about this bass...you just can not play it sitting down...the hook on the lower horn is quite painful if balanced on your leg ! apart from that it's a stella bass (but quite marmite) Id like to try one of the Dean or Carvin All wood basses of brians design, again never seen one this side of the pond.
  12. Peavey B-Quad 5 Fretted/Fretless (i already own a 4 string fretted)
  13. I've had a few Peavy basses over the last 35 or so years, all have been solid even the budget lowend stuff held it's ground and played/sounded good I bought this Peavey Bromberg B-Quad (from this very forum) many moons ago....here it is after i made a ramp for it a while back.. the PCB had a fault when i got it (seller was upfront about the issue) where it would drain the battery even without the jack in, It took a while (like 8 months) but Peavey spares UK managed to find me a PCB from somewhere...(USA department didn't have any) after that i took it to many places to try to get someone to change it out but after they took a look a the wiring/soldering job they wouldn't touch it with a barge pole!.....so it went back in the case for a good 5 years un-played......Till i meet a guy on a training course who claimed to have been a PCB design engineer for various companies inc Laney...i told him about the bass/PCB issue and he said well bring it down and i'll do it for you no problem....next day at lunch, 20 mins later he'd swapped it all out and it was totally fixed! he then took the Old PCB home and fixed that too ! (it's in the case pocket as a backup) & he wouldn't even take any payment, so i bought him a bottle of brandy and some cigs...he's admitted vices. Lets just say the B Quad is not a very Polite bass but you can get pretty much any "modern" tone out of and the slap/tap it bell clear unlike any other bass i've ever played/owned (after all brian bromberg designed it to be this way as he's a bit of a slapper/tapper (even if it all feel apart with peavey after they released it) I've come close to selling it a few times as i mainly play 5's now but as soon as i pick it up i quickly reconsider, also if it went i doubt id find a 2nd to replace it as they are rockhorseshit rare atm it seems, it's been years since i saw another up for sale and I've never seen a 5 this side of the pond.
  14. Hey Rob, Thx..i have to say there is nothing "proper" about my CNC setup but it works for me, i used to build "by hand" CNC isn't really much faster as you do a lot more work up front but i think the results are much better ! I'll see about posting something in the builds log so as to not clog up this thread (mods please re/move this post if you need/want) the above body is a 27" baritone headless guitar!...Build has somewhat stalled due to a recent death in the family but im hopping to restart things this week I do also have a 5 string SC headless 32" scale BASS (also unfinished) So ppl might have seen these over at sevenstring.org where i mostly post my builds, but for months now i can't even load the site to login there.... Cheers Gizmo
  15. I had a resin printer for a few years(mostly for mini's/warhammer stuff) Bit im finding the FDM to be a much more practical buy/tool One of my fav print so far has been these ER collet chip/dust clearing fans https://www.printables.com/model/420575-er11-a-collet-nut-fan they work so well that i was able to remove the dust boot and just vac every once in a while or at the end of the cut.

  18. I think tony lost his original 3 string in a fire...still pretty funny ;)
  19. Should I Stay or Should I Go - The Clash
  20. I'll echo this for my Z7 5 that just arrived...it also also need a good setting u...., i learnt long ago to throw away any cream cheese allen keys that come with guitars/basses and bought a full boxed set of hardened steel imp/metric keys , you can get these for about £10, these days, they get used and put right back in the case so i don't have to hunt them down to the bottom of the tool box! I have to say i do really like the Sire Z7 - 5 & after a setup/oil and fret polish it's an amazing feeling/sounding bass and is way way better than many basses that i've paid x3-4 more for in the past...the only neg's for me are over all weight and neck drive when sitting (due to the way to short lower horn, even on the 2nd gen)...both thigs mean it's going to be on the 4 sale block over the weekend.. shame because it really is a great bass

  22. Pile on I had to return a guitar to CC in Liverpool mid last year (faulty trem) PF/RM's "Proof of Delivery" photo was of the boxed guitar on the rear bumper of the delivery Van! ... .I Sent a complaint via the web site and was finally given a yep but no but yep kind of apology ....we checked the Geo local on the photo and it was taken near the delivery address....wtf kind of CS is that? And so to this evening im waiting in for RM to deliver a laptop that's had it's ETA changed 4 times already today (anywhere from between 8:45 to 17:45) and then the real time tracking app/map goes totally dead after claiming it's less than "5 stops away" and then I a get a "Delivery Attempted - Address Inaccessible" message..... thing is i have CCTV front and back and nobody has tried to access out property at any time today also and No RM vans have even entered the street.....after a bit of searching online i fond the RM CS phone line (nowhere is it listed on their own site btw so i had to get an LLM to dig it up...) I get past all the frontline bots (don't choose any options and it freaks out) and im then told it's a 60 min wait to talk to a human...total .joke of a company.
  23. While nowhere near as bad as they used to be i find Reverbs Fee's to still be a little off putting, I've also started to get a lot of Fraudulent "sold" Spam, I reported this via there system but the messages are still coming in from various accounts.. here's the last one (minus the "hot ink") Hey, Your item has been sold on Reverb. This message includes a link where you can look over your account details. There’s no rush and it doesn’t take long — most people just skim through the info and move on. This step usually comes up around this point as the sale wraps up,http://*****.org/lkajdo just to keep everything aligned in the final stage. Once you’ve had a look, you can leave it there. The rest of the process continues without any follow-ups or extra steps. If something catches your eye while you’re checking, you can always reach out — but generally it’s a quick pass and that’s it. Deli‌very Te‍am Seems Reverb have a problem they can't fix.....
