Does it have a truss rod ? i remember for years he refused to install rods in his "wish" "basses" so they had really wonky necks and insane action!

I see the BTB865SC 's pushing £900+ with VAT/Duty/shipping from Reverb EU 3rd party JPN sellers but if your will to go direct using the Zenmarket/hardoff route with surface shipping you can get one from Japan landed into the UK for about £700 'ish (if your willing to wait 3 months! for surface shipping) im thinking of doing this but need to move some other gear first (not somuch for the money just the space!) Surface shipping is about £40 pretty sure its just me that refuse's to pay £120+VAT for air shipping!

Knackered truss rod and fingerboard removal HELP PLEASE
Gizmo replied to police squad's topic in Bass Guitars
Wow that's not a fretboard that's a veneer ! Mad skill that you got that off in one piece! /bow Set temp Med/High to start will and up it to max if you need to, as you start to get heat into the wood/tools it will become easier/faster to move onto the next section. (also i never need to add any steam myself) -
Knackered truss rod and fingerboard removal HELP PLEASE
Gizmo replied to police squad's topic in Bass Guitars
I've removed boards before via heat Steam/iron pretty much this method Take your time and work on a small section, Do not force or try to pry the board away from unheated/glue melted sections, you have about 2mm of wood under each fret and the board will snap if you try and force it You might need to reroute the rod channel if you can't find a direct fit replacement dropping a dual rod in it ok & you should be able to clean up the neck/board for re gluing with a little acetone/nail polish remover, use a blade edge to scrape it away (don't dig in) a wipe down with clean water (don't let acetone soak if it's a lam neck it might weaking the glue joints) One thing you might want to try before your go for taking the board off is to get some heat directly on the rod's nut by applying the tip of a high watt soldering iron to it, that might be enough to break any corrosion/bonding between the nut/rod (that is if it isn't cross threaded) Good luck -
I Love Single Cuts but TBH i can't tell you that plugged in they sound any different than any other bass with the same pickup+placement/hardware/string combo (i also do not do the "tonewood" myth) I've seen some people will argue the extra "mass" add to Tone/Sustain...but again i can't say i ever noticed (also check out BASStheworlds YT Hollow body HB review that has a HB in the MM sweetspot...yep you guessed it it sounds like a MM...) i do feel a bit more rumble/sound/tone in my chest due to the way they sit against your torso which i think is nice, this might be what people think is enhancing their tone (is this a bit like Bone induction earphones?) I've built/building a few Singlecuts myself and im also looking at a BTB SC 5 the "BTB865SC" (wow ibby have such memorable Names don't they!) Make sure you order a WIDE strap if you do get one as even the lighter ones are still quite heavy, So SC basses ....are (still) Marmite ?

On my lineless/unmarked board they are located on the fretline/note position.

just seen one popup on evilbay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/147130313709 collection only, london ...Id have gone for it with postage but it's a 6 hour round trip for me to collect so....

Sell it and then buy the fretless version of the bass... Ho but Jaco took the frets out........ Sure DIY if you like (or pay a someone else to DIFY), your looking at firstly getting the frets out without any chipping, then filling and re- radius'ing the board/slots + maybe CA/Epoxy/flatten/polish...and don't forget your side fret markers are now pretty much useless as they are cantered in the fret not over the lines/notes so drill out fill and redrill all those...Or just get the board replaced (much easier) Or just go buy a cheap HB fretless to see if you bond with it...have fun Have fun

The End of Tonewood ... or Tone-anything!
Gizmo replied to BassApprentice's topic in General Discussion
You jest but the lengths people will go to to try and justify "tonewood" thing is amazing, on a guitar board someone kicked off a TW debate and i posted the jim lil "air guitar" video (this one) Some guy replied that the desk was "made of wood" so that would effect the tone...i mean WTF, some people are beyond help it seems. -
That looks DEEP very nice...on the GAS list

I order a fretless Jazz b-stock from Bax a few years back...The sent a me Fretted J, no answer to my emails to try and get it sorted but when someone finally answered the phone (after 2 days of trying/being hung up on) the guy just couldn't understand what the problem was as the item code was the same it was just missing the FL (or something like that) i got them to collect it for a refund but after 10 days no refund or reply so i just connected Paypal and got my money back 10 mins later...I think they went to the wall since and got bought out/under new management but it seems they still have a stock/order/dispatch problem I've ordered a few of the Fazley tele things for my dad cheap but they all needed "a lot" of setup work (fret edge/level/polish)....TBH if your going to end up replacing the parts (if you don't have them at hand) i think you'd be better off just going for a Harley Benton.

Nope.....price @ thonamm are inc of VAT+Duty "The total price we quote you includes the relevant local VAT rate for that country and no more taxes or import duties are necessary." https://www.thomannmusic.com/faq_question_am_i_liable_for_import_tax.html Im guessing Andtertons are doing the "previously listed at" trick so they can make it look like your saving money after they adjust the price at launch...a very common retail con....

New dedicated bass guitar magazine in print for the UK!
Gizmo replied to Gunsfreddy2003's topic in General Discussion
Nice, i do like a print mag over a pdf so i'll pick this up (that's if all my local newsagents haven't all shut up shop....) btw Is this monthly/BI/Quarterly ? i checked the subs on the webpage but it only shows years sub prices & nothing about the amount of issues per year? GL -
what are you playing atm? do you have or have you tried any 33" scale bass ? (not many at retailers i can guess) , I've played/owned and built a lot of basses and guitars and for me it's down to pickup/placement and strings + your own technique (unless your playing an acoustic instrument (again strings+technique are a big part of any of that sound) I find the "ToneWoods" methos is used by folk who want to charge you a lot or so people can justify why they spent a lot ..... come at me bro

If it was this one Yep Gone And i agree with @Cornwall Steve the Drab brown/low gloss stain Popular Burl really lets this line down in the Image/Wow dept, Sure they might look great but im shallow (that said i've owned basses that look Stella but played/sounded like Dogdoo)

Hi Kiwi Thank's for the reply, Im contemplating do my own 90-10% CF/Wood neck or i could just buying one to avoid the faff..(i have a cnc and access to a vacuum system) Profile and Radius sound good but Bridge spacing is/would be directly related to the nut spacing, you want a consistent overhang so your strings aren't falling off the board at the 24th Cheers

So.....Who bought that Ibanez BTB845V off of ebay i was gassing about
-
Well i couldn't find a 32" SC headless...So i decided to design and build my own. Had a pair of Peavy VFL's 5;s lying around so one's gone in the bridge (im still looking for it's preamp..it's about here somwhere!) and id thinking of dropping an S in the middle position (maybe mod one in after it's finished) My 2.9mm stainless wire just arrived after being lost/delayed last month, not sure if i'll be going high gloss or hard wax/poly wipe on yet...i should start a build log here for this i guess.

Since im sending the Sire Z7 back on Monday i'll have about £500 burning a hole in my pocket which BTB's do you fancy ?....some of the the newer BTB's have also caught my eye, there's a Ibanez BTB845V (a japanese only released 33" scale E-C) i quite fancy on the bay atm and there's a BTB SC (BTB865SC....WTF is it with ibbys lame naming....) up on Zenmarket that im mulling over (im a sucker for singlecuts) but with shipping/Import that would be up at around £600 & 3 months wait (i refuse to pay £120 to ship a bass via air vs £40 for surface)
