2. Seems like photobucket have changed something, im seeing this pic a LOT more around here
3. Basically all of the above, and take your time. I used a dremel to remove most of the material, but i find my method leaves a bumpy adge, so i use a rough file to smooth the shape, the a smooth file to smooth, then 400 grit wet/dry (used dry) to give it a good finish. Lining up the screw holes is a bastard, but if you leave it to last, and have a pickguard as a template, then just be very careful when you drill them. I only ended up with 1 out enough to warrant a new hole being drilled. If you're good with a file, then a bevel is no issue. Have the edge over a table, then position your hand at 45', and go for it. As long as you keep your movements the same, at roughly the same angle, it works. Funnily enough, i've just finished making a rick scratchplate. Took about an hour. The reason i did a bevel is because it was a BWB sheet, and its pointless having it without the bevel. If you have skill, or patience, it can look machine done. And just because i want to show it off, heres mine.
4. I had a bog standard one, and it sounds great out of the bag. They normally get sold and bought around the same price, so as long as you're not spending more than £150 at most on a used one, then you'll be easily able to sell it again if you dont like it. I preferred it over the EB3 bass (longer scale, extra pickup)
5. I was just about to post this. Yeah, doesnt really play the lower strings. I wonder why....
6. Dam. But im glad to see theyre back up and running. However, this thread, and all the lovely pictures on instagram have given me the bug for a wal. If i sell enough basses i can get one. Anyone got a load on a mk1 4 string for sale?
7. Ive never seen a 215 dwarfed. That things immense
8. Thanks guys, the mood seems to have lifted a bit. Ill have a go at going over stuff and tinkering with it.
9. Thanks guys, but i think it might be a memory thing. I can play random creative stuff like nothing, but its recreating it, and making a song/structure around it thats my main issue
10. I'm trying to write new material for my bands upcoming album, and i've hit a block whereby i can't think of anything to play, like, i'll literally have my bass in my lap, fingers at the ready, and the guitarist is playing something, and i've no idea what to play so i sit there like a melon. It's infuriatingly frustrating, and i can't seem to get past it. I've been on my own all afternoon, with a bass at the ready, and even now i can't seem to play anything with enthusiasm. Whats going on. It's almost a physical block, and to be honest, it's quite worrying. I can't see myself carrying on in the band like this. The guitarist does enough in the band without the entire duty of writing falling upon his shoulders as the drummer is a lazy layabout who can't remember what he played to what bit the last time, and the singer just does his own thing, and doesn't have much of a vision song wise. If any of you have faced a similar problem before, i'd like to hear how your experience was, what happened in the long term, with regards to the band/ bass playing in general. I've even tried going back to songs i used to love to play, but there's not as much as a connection as there used to be. Help.
11. And they fit a rick, so thats a 2+2 style headstock.
12. I bought one of the backup basses from Simon Jones of the verve, a 1975 Rickenbacker 4001. As im putting flats on it, as well as upgrading the pickups and wiring, i don't need the strings on it. So rather than just throw them away, knowing theres a subculture here for used bass strings, i thought i may as well offer them to someone here instead of binning them. They're well used, couple bits of rust, but they sound like old worn roundwounds. Nice sound. So yeah, if i don't get any interest within a week or so, i'll bin them. I've got a box full of old used strings, and these days i have no more need of used rounds. There you go. If you want them, send me a PM, i'll send them in the post free. So you pay nothing. Good day y'all beautiful people. Oh yeah, a quick pic. None of Simon with them though.
13.
Ha! That's for girls. You want my old Boogie Road Ready 2x18 at 107 kilos.
Need to see a pic of this.
14. Aye, i was going to say, compared to older jap stuff (cough, matsumoku, cough) its very reasonably priced, with its age, heritage, and condition.
15. https://www.gumtree....ful-/1252456233 on gumtree. Ive read a lot about them, and know that there aren't many of them around.
16.
I could weep for the days when you could find a decent used Wal for less than £1000. I recall seeing a good mk2 at the Gallery in London for £1250! Sadly, the priced rocketed into the stratosphere when the original Wal operation closed it's doors. Now that it has restarted, prices haven't adjusted to counter that inflation.
I thought i remember that they closed up shop. Theres just nothing quite like a wal. The electronics are out of this world.

18. Wow mike. Thats some dam collection you have. Looking at the comments it seems as though they improved balance over the model series. Still, i had a go of one at the last bass bash. And i must say i qas highly tempted to get one, were it not for the price tag.
