1. Thanks Skywalker83 - but they are all linear, not log/audio.
2. Pickups and preamp for my Ibanez. It has a great feel and unplugged sound, but the stock pickups and pre are a bit lame. GAS is minimal now. I have my Ibby and my dream Ibby on the way (although I think it may be lost in the post ) and a decent rig. Some major expenses in the pipeline too: driving lessons, car, house...no gear purchases for a good while!
3.
Excellent, I'll be off to the shop then...
Hold on...I don't think it is out yet. Subscribers get it early. BGM's website says it isn't out until the 31st. Earlier on I wrote that I couldn't extend my subscription due to an error on their website - it's because I have a non-standard letter in my address (Ö, in case anyone was interested).
4. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 1 post to view.
5. I'm in a slight acquisition phase...please leave feedback here, even from older transactions. Y'know, to make me look good!
6. Just received an EMG 40DC from The Bass Doc. Let me know what was going on every step of the way and seems to be a nice chap. Thanks!

I have one. It's a great bass with a great feel. Be advised that the pickups are not standard size and are very hot. Great for metal and hard rock, a bit overly untamed for other styles of music. I am selling mine, though, as I have gone over to five strings. If you think you'll like it, I'm sure you'll really enjoy the bass. I loved mine and am a bit sad with it being up for grabs, but that's the way it goes!

Just to make it clear, if anyone wanted to sell these for profit, they could. The name "Woolly Mammoth" is (most likely) copyrighted, and anything too close may get them in trouble. However, the circuit is public domain. The only potential problem with cloning pedals and selling them is CE marking.
9.
Had a look at the new issue in WH Smiths. Still the same Jazz Fushion players, Warwick and Fender catalogues, high end basses and waffle.
I agree about the same jazz players, but I assume that some people are interested and know who they are. I only recognise their names because I've read interviews with them in earlier issues of the magazine, or they write columns in BGM. Other than Marcus Miller, because I saw him in a Fender catalogue (and wondered who he was and why he deserved a signature bass).
10. I too agree that the newer issue was much better - much better, the unaffordable gear notwithstanding. They still need to sort out the grammar in the magazine (see scores of earlier posts, seemingly ignored by BGM - did any of them go to school?). For my sins, I decided to renew my subscription. However, the BGM renewal website does not work (perchance only for EU subs). I informed the subscriptions manager on Thursday but she has not responded yet. Now, is this for my sins, or for my good deeds?

My understanding is that it is not illegal to clone a production pedal at all. There is no copyright on analogue circuits (as placing components after one another is a logical step, not a great display of creativity), only on actual PCB designs. Ergo, there is no law stopping anyone from reverse engineering a pedal and making clones and selling them for profit. "My understanding". Not sure where I picked up this info, but I'm 90% sure of it. Edit to add: a schematic is copyrighted as it is a drawing, but the actual circuit is not copyrighted. Or something. I've made a bundle of pedals for my guitar. Distortions, overdrives, delay, chorus, phase...it's great fun.
12. Cheers - no problems finding 50k pots, even though they are unusual. I couldn't find a 47k push-pull at all, linear or log, but I found a couple of 50k linear push-pull. I found a 50k log with an SPDT, but I need DPDT. Something tells me I won't find one, but I haven't given up hope yet!
13. I have had to back out - I need the EMG 40, not 45. My apologies to owen.
14. I am possibly interested in this - it depends on whether I can get a 50k push-pull pot so it can be used in a BQC system. Can't say I'm that interested in the dodgy one, though. Would you split?
15. Hello Title says it all, really. Does anyone have an audio 50k push-pull pot? They are often called A50k, but annoyingly the codes are not universal, and cannot really be trusted. There are some on eBay right now, but they are linear. This is (or could be - if I find one) going to be used as a master volume for an EMG BQC kit. The standard kit has a 50k master volume pot, and I plan to use an EMG 40DC and a 40TW (coil split) with it. Drilling a hole for a toggle switch is not an option. Any help would be most appreciated!
16.
Sansamps dont really like hot active inputs. [...]
Damn, that's not really what I want to hear as I have a hot bass and a Sansamp on its way here. Would the MXR M-80 act in a similar way?
17. I can't try them because of my location. It's hard enough to find a decent instrument at a decent price in Sweden, let alone one nearby, and I don't get back to the UK as often as I would like. Buying unseen is always risky, so I make sure I know exactly what I am buying and do some serious research on the brand and model. I'll go on over to Talkbass and have a peep there. Thanks for the tip, Mikey!
18. Cheers, Pete. I was a bit unclear in my original post - my pondering on whether wood matters was really a thought about whether certain body woods can lead to an inability to get a good rock sound, or indeed a good growl, and whether the current understanding of the relationship between wood types and tone types still holds. We all think that wood x leads to sound y, but we all agree that wood is a non-uniform thing and so one can never be certain.
19. Interesting response - thanks. I'd be going for rosewood fingerboard, as that is the only option here. Otherwise, I'd probably go for ebony for sexiness.
20. Hello I have a mahogany bodied bass here which I adore. It has a nice throaty growl to it with good definition, perhaps partly to the maple neck - perfect for the kind of music I play, which is hard rock/metal. This is also what I perceive is the standard mahogany & maple sound. I would like a back-up, but this time I would like to go neck-through. If I went for a maple/bubinga neck with a solid maple body, would this be too bright for my kind of music? The maple/wenge neck and mahogany & maple cap body version of this bass is very hard to find, but seems to be what I would be after...but it may sound too much like the bass I already have. I am unable to play either of the basses before buying. Thoughts? Other than that GAS is a terrible thing!
21. Done it. I assume the figures you have in the survey are in pounds? Note to others: this isn't doing his dissertation, it's filling out a survey.
22. What ape said - with a proper set-up, I can't see how there would be any structural problems. As for a 6-string...first of all, no, I do not play one. A while ago I was in a shop and there was a 5er there which someone - I assume it was the previous owner - had tuned it DEADG, using two E strings for the D and E. If you got a 6-string, you could tune it similarly (DEADGC), and then get the C string but keeping the all important low D, whilst not using a thick B string. I don't quite see the point, though. Still, there are options!
23. Sorry, no idea what I was thinking. I have my sound right now, and so changing it just to make it a little more neat is about as stupid as I could possibly be. Still, at least I changed my mind before anyone showed interest! WITHDRAWN!!
24. Here we have the Rane DC24 rackmount compressor. It is the best available according to this chap who has tested a million different compressors. In the quick summary he gives it top marks, and in the full on review he seems to like it just as much. It's in "used" condition, but it works perfectly well. The power supply is one of Rane's standard weird jobbies with the telephone cable jack thing which has had that extra bit of plastic snap off. I still have it, and right now I just tape the power lead into the unit and it all works smoothly. I have printed out all the stuff from Rane's great website, so I could say that the manual is included. Why am I getting rid of it? I'm a bit embarrassed to say, really. I want a compressor which has an IEC power jack (kettle lead) so it will fit in my rack with my power conditioner. Right now I use the Rane with an adaptor, but I want something which is easier and doesn't need to be bolted down inside the rack case. So yes, I am getting rid of the "best" rackmount compressor because I want one that fits better. As I said, a bit embarrassing! For trades: I would like a rack compressor with an IEC jack. Something like a dbx, or a TC Electronics C300 or something like that, with a bit of cash difference either way if necessary. The catch: I am in Sweden and will not be in the UK for ages, probably not before Christmas 2010. This means that any trades will need to be posted to me here. It's no harder than posting something domestically, but some people (for some reason) have a bit of a problem with sending stuff overseas. For sale at £100 including postage. Pics: and an older pic of the rear, including the back of the power conditioner
