2.
Wife is up for it - need to get step-daughter 'buy-in' now Could bring pretty much any bass in my sig - either a clutch of old Fenders or some of the more 'esoteric' stuff like Fodera / Alleva Coppolo / Celinder etc.
Excellent! Personally, i'd be more interested to see some of the more esoteric ethic in your Sig (if you're asking for opinions that is!).
 3.
I once forgot to a bring a lead to the gig and ended up having to use the keyboard players patch lead. It was about 3 inches long. I felt very silly.
That's awesome, wish you had a photo!
 4.
Just trying to see if my step-daughter is free that day as she lives just 4 miles away so my wife & I could come up & & she could see her daughter & I could pop over for some bass chatting
The more the merrier! It would be good to see you if you can make it.
 5.
man i want to go to one of these and meet everyone... anyone live in the gloucestershire area?
Evilundead is in Gloucester area I think, and she's coming along (hopefully). I did send you a PM about this one a little while ago, because I noticed you're in Cheltenham. It would be great to see you if you can make it!
 6.
YES - I wanna hear those Sandyberg basses of yours in full glory......
Ok, i'll sort them out! Is that thinline P going to be ready Dave? I'm itching to get my hands on it!
 7.
I don't even have to open the link huge spinaltap fan
Ha ha! Me too, love it! We used to do "tonight I'm gonna rock you" in my old band, good times!
 8.
Sorry I'm young what is this ' that you speak of
It's an olde English Medieval measuring system I think.
 9. I've found the Glockenklang preamps in my Sandbergs to be one of the best preamps I've used. They're transparent and natural sounding, and the selection of the frequency ranges seems spot on. They seem pretty reasonably priced too, but I've only spotted them available from Thomann so far.
 10. I think I made my main cable about 27' and the two for my effects loop about 24'. I think.......
 11. Looking forward to it! Just debating whether to re-string my basses. They're not completely dead, but.........
 12. I'm also looking to insure my gear on a proper policy, and spotted a thread on here awhile ago about New Moon Insurance, and I'm going to sort it out next week. They're a new(ish) company formed from guys who used to work for Cornhill and Allianz (I think)< and wanted to start a firm specifically doing musical instrument insurance. The policies are underwritten by Hiscox, who are one of the best, and the prices seem extremely reasonable compared to quotes I've had from other firms. I spoke to them on the phone yesterday and they were very helpful and knowledgeable, and the cover seems very comprehensive. It can include theft from an unattended vehicle, and they say that they appreciate that not everything fits in the boot/glovebox. When I asked them more about this, they said that as long as it's not glaringly obvious what you've got in there and you've done as much as possible to conceal it, then they'll pay out. They gave the example that if you had a bass on the back seat, as long as you had a blanket/sheet/coats or whatever covering it, that would be fine. I also quizzed them about what if I'm loading up after a gig, take my amp out to the car, and then when I get back in my bass has disappeared off the stage. Technically you've left the instrument unattended in a public place so it's often a grey area. NM told me that this would probably just go down as a "lost" instrument and they would pay out, no worries. Whether they are as good as they sound or not, I don't know, but I'm certainly going to give them a go.
 13. I've got Dimarzio Model P/J in my RBX and they are AWESOME! Loads of guts and power but plenty of definition and clarity too, but they definitely still sound like a P and J pickup to me and don't lack character. The J is a split coil design so humcancelling and they sound wicked. I was planning to put a preamp in the bass, but I installed these babies and decided it didn't need it. They're really good value for money IMHO too. Oh yeah, and you can wire them to switch between series/parallel if you want too.
 14. Roll up, roll up, only 3 weeks today!
 15. Where's GW............
 16.
Ta Oli - I've got the space and (most of) the tools plus I'm only 20 miles away, pop round and make one here!!! See ya in a couple of weeks at the west mids Bash Bash..... PLUG.....
Thanks for the generous offer Dave, I'd love to but realistically I wouldn't have a clue how to go about building and fretting a neck from scratch! Do you do lessons?
 17. Awesome stuff Dave, the fretwork and dots look great! Makes me want to build one myself..... wish I had the facilities to have a go! I'm an ex-carpenter, so I've got some skills, but not the necessary equipment or the money to buy any! Ah well, maybe I'll just have to consider a Firecreek custom.........
 18. Something like a Zoom MRS-8 would be great but I think they cost a bit more. Not only is it an 8-track recorder, but it's got a fully programmable drum machine built in with proper pads (like an Alesis SR16 type of thing). It's got effects and all built in too. Not as small as the Pandora I think, but still very portable.
 19.
Fair play dude that was f***ing funny !
Ithankyou.
 20. +1 for Dimarzio
 21.
Buggar, I love green. You say it's 2 band eq? You after any trades?
Unless Dave's has been changed, the Basics have a 3-band Glockenklang with push/pull volume for true passive bypass. There is zero volume drop when switching if the EQ is centred. They are very versatile for a single pickup bass!
 22. Have a bump on me, another big Sandberg fan here! The Basics are often overlooked by people, but they're unbelievably good basses. In fact, I prefer my Basic to my Cali PM. Effortless to play and sound fantastic. Good luck with the sale Dave, looks like a lovely bass!
 23.
Get your dosh back, have a big mug of tea, enjoy counting the aforementioned dosh, pick up the phone, and order a Sandberg Ken Taylor in the finish that you want, get the bass, play the bass, and enjoy counting the remainder of the dosh that you have saved!!! Just my thoughts, LOL Cheers Pete
+1
 24. Welcome! I agree with what everyone else has said. When I first started playing my teacher gave me some good advice; lock in with the bass drum, and let the snare breathe (don't play anything on the snare beat). If you follow this very basic premise, you can't fail to find a tight groove with the drummer! I still resort to this if I'm in doubt about what I should be playing. Keep it simple, and then once you've got a solid bassline, think about embelishing it a little WHERE APPROPRIATE! I share the view of some folks above, that the bass is an accompanying instrument, and that you have to know your place in the band and be happy with it! Not to say you can't have your moments to shine........ If in any doubt, keep it simple and tight. It sounds much better than playing too much sloppily (probably not a word). If you're doing covers, I find Guitar Pro transcriptions useful. They're usually pretty accurate, and you can solo the bass track to hear what's going on, or mute it to play along. Hope this helps!
