1.
Until a date and location is established I don't think it should be publicised .
I agree, but it would be good to know if there's sufficient interest before we bother organising anything concrete..... bit of a chicken/egg situation! I've put a message in my sig anyway, so that hopefully others might express their interest.
 2. It looks like it was a great day! Wish I could've been there....... I would LOVE to know who everyone is in the photos though!
 3.
I think first we'd need to find out the cost of a venue and then work out the minimum number of people you'd need to make it pay. (The entry fee for the SE Bash was £10 a head and any surplus went to charity). Then you ask people to put their names down on a post here and see how many you get. Do you think that would work?
I think that sounds like a good plan, my only concern is that people might not notice it in the events forum. Maybe we can get a sneaky mention in on some of the other forums, or put it in our sigs so that people notice when we post?
 4.
I'd be up for a West Mids bash - would be an opportunity to visit "back 'ome.........'Om a Black Country girl ay I.....bostin ar kid".....etc...... Angie
Oroyt yow, ar am ya? (poor attempt at black country slang!) Would be good to see you there if it comes off Angie! Can the folk of Ascot understand what you're saying to them?
 5.
That's a good call actually, I know Alex who runs the Arkham recording studio over there so might be able to swing a bit of a deal...
I just love it when a plan comes together! Does everyone think there's gonna be enough people interested for it to be worthwhile?
 6.
Yes, the Tribute L2000's neck does not suit everyone. Trib. L2000 necks come in only one size, 1.75" @ the nut and 12" radius. With USA L2000's you have a choice of necks, the most popular being the jazz neck. You could always try out a Trib. JB2. Not as versatile sounding as the L2000, but a great bass for the money none the less, and has the jazz neck.
Hmmm..... Interesting! I like the look of the SB; does this have the jazz neck too? Probably not much chance of me finding one in a store to try......
 7. Lovely bass dude! G&L tributes seem to be such good value at that pricepoint and they sound great! I really wanted to buy one earlier this year, but when I actually tried one in a local store, I realised it just wasn't for me; the neck felt massive and awkward unfortunately (I do have dlightly girly hands!). A good score, hope you enjoy it.
 8.
The upstairs bar at The Asylum might be a good place. Just outside the city centre, adequate parking nearby. I can enquire if there's enough interest. Howabout a sunday afternoon 1-5pm ish?
Sounds good, enquire away! As Seashell said though, it might be a good idea if we could have a couple of rooms or something. I could do a workshop about "How to pretend to be a competent bass player"........ I really want to have a get together, but does anyone know how we go about rounding people up? I had never looked in the "Events" forum 'til recently!
 9.
The Roadhouse might be worth talking to. It's quite large, there's actually a stage there if anyone feels rock-starish, and there's also a reasonably large car park and the access doesn't involve stairs.
Looks like it might be worth giving them a call, good spot! It would definitely be good to get something together, especially reading all the posts about how great the South East Bass Bash was!
 10.
Mmmmmmm - - did this back in August http://basschat.co.u...or-a-long-time/
Apologies, didn't realise it had been done already! I know it's very simple folks, but that's what I like about it personally. I'm not really a coffee table sort of guy, and I like that this just looks like an out and out rock machine! I do think the price is absurd for what it is though! It's got me thinking about doing a '51 P type of project but with a MM 'bucker and active eq.... Don't know what would be the cheapest way to do it though?
 11. You'd be surprised how many people who work in instrument retail do not have a clue what they're talking about half the time, and don't know how to set guitars and basses up! I worked in instrument retail for quite a few years, and saw a lot of this. The basses are more likely to get neglected because unless the shop has a bass player working there, the guitars get all the attention from the staff (guitarists), most of whom also think that basses are just awkward to play regardless of what you do to them. Profitability is definitely a factor, and I'm glad I got out of retail when I did. I think the usual profit margin was about 35% if you sold at full RRP (never!) and when VAT was 17.5%. Instrument retail has about the lowest mark-up in the retail industry. It was quite common for people to come in asking if we could match an internet price which was actually lower than the trade price that we could buy the instrument at! This is unfortunately why we are slowly losing music shops, and I'm sure there will come a time in the not too distant future when there is nowhere to try instruments out, and you can only buy online. That said, I always used to make sure all the guitars and basses were well set up and played as nicely as they could; you are trying to sell them after all! Besides which, I would've felt embarrassed if a customer pointed out that a guitar in my shop played like a box of veal! The answer to the dull strings issue is that it's much cheaper to give them a quick wipe with fast fret and a cloth after someone's tried a guitar than change the strings quite so often. EDIT: Ha ha, damn predictive text! "box of veal" was supposed to be "box of crap"!
 12.
I'm moving back towards Central Brum next week (Moseley), could look around for a boozer that'd have us if people fancy it, say, in November (no point being to close to tomorrow's Stratford get-together!)? The famed Jug of Ale is apparently still going, could enquire if they'd have us for an afternoon pre-gig (I also promote, so could do a one-two punch of a BassChat get-together followed by a gig...)
Sounds like it might be worth looking into; I'm sure in or around Brum would be best for everyone for accessibility. Is it worth looking at community halls and stuff?
 13. I could find somewhere in Herefordshire I'm sure, but I dunno if it's a bit out the way for everyone? It's about 45 minutes from Worcester or Gloucester and about 1hr 15min from Brum (sensible times!).
 14.
The problem we had last time was finding a suitable venue - anyone with ideas is welcome to put them forward ! I think we'll have plenty of interest .
I could give the NEC a ring ;-)
 15. Spotted this in a GAK newsletter email; http://products.fendercustomshop.com/en-GB/products/search.php?partno=1510008806 I think it looks awesome, but at £2799 there's no chance for me! Besides, I could buy about about 6 used Sandbergs for that!
 16. I would try ringing JHS (John Hornby Skewes) who distribute Encore and see if they can be any help. Looks like they do a shorter scale model: http://www.jhs.co.uk/encorebass.html
 17.
Steady on dude, I know I've recently lost my gf, but that doesn't mean I am going to bat for the opposite team now... I consider myself retired now. haha
Ha ha! Maybe I should've said "love your style"! I know you're not getting the other bus into town, and I'm happily married so it's all okay! Seriously, should be a lovely instrument, although the waiting time seems to have gone up a bit! I think it was 10 - 12 weeks when I enquired a few months ago, although to be fair the aging probably adds a bit. Have you stuck with Delano pickups or gone for Haussel? Any other specs or are you not willing to divulge? I look forward to seeing the pics and review!
 18.
Breaking news, four months wait for a bespoke order on a Sandberg VM5 maple fingerboard medium aged, block inlays. Deposit of 10% paid (£180) ordered this morning by this time next months I'll be able to pay the balance
Ha ha! Love you GW! Wish I could just order a custom bass like that! Well, another member of the congregation, maybe we need to do a Sandberg porn thread once you've got yours!
 19.
Whereabouts in the midlands are you bud? i can point you to a few jam nights where you can do such things
I'm in Hereford, so about as far west as you can get! Are there regular, smaller gatherings of bass players are there?
 20.
They aren't very pretty IMO, and you know what people are like on here, if it doesn't look like a Fender or a Ricky, they don't know what to make of it. Anyway, I have decided to go back to Warwick. Hearing 51m0n's mixes of the new Kit Richardson EP this week, I have fallen in love with my own bass tones I need a Warwick again!
I hear what you're saying brother! Glad you've figured out what makes you happy anyway (until the next GAS attack!).
 21.
theres been talk of one in sutton coldfield, didn't come to anything though
I guess I don't even know how it works or what goes on exactly at a Bass Bash, but I like the idea of meeting fellow BCers, chatting bass, and trying some gear i've never tried!

 23.
Loving this thread and all the sandberg love going around. To praise them again, i sold my Ray5 for mine and it's the best move I made. I want another PM4 or whatever they are called now, but in Matt White with black plate! Mmmmm
Mmmmmm that would he sweeeeet! You'd have like yin and Yang basses! It is good that there's so much Sandberg love going around, but I just wish there was a bit more appreciation for the Basics!
 24. Hey guys, might be interested in coming along (if I can find the time!). I guess this might be the closest bash to me? I live in Herefordshire. Does everyone bring an amp or not? I can bring mine if needs be. What time does it start and finish? Sorry for all the questions!
 25. Model J and Ultra Jazz; I have owned and loved both (got Model P/J in my RBX actually) and they are the best pickups i've ever used. They both have plenty of guts, punch, and presence, although I would say the Model Js are more what you're after. They are a little more traditional sounding, although obviously still very ballsy and absolutely silent. The Ultra Jazz are hotter (a proper punch in the guts!) and have more top end. I believe that the Model Ps and Js were the some of the first "off the shelf" Fender replacement pickups available , and apparently they haven't really changed.
