Gallien Krueger 800RB (UK version) - Sold pending payment!

Next up in the downsizing is my Matamp 2x12 bass cab. 4ohm, rated at 600 watts, I'm fairly sure it has Celestions in it. Looks great with the salt and pepper grill cloth and black tolex. There's plenty on here about these cabs and it sounds pretty damn amazing. It fits in my little Fiesta with the back seats down and is a pretty easy one man lift. I believe these are about 30kg, and I'm pretty scrawny and can manage it. Speakon connectoion only. There are a couple of tiny rips in the tolex, but nothing really worth mentioning. If you want pics if them, I'll sort it, but it has only been gigged a couple of times and never abused at practices. Collection only for this one, or I could deliver within an hour or so from Lancaster for petrol money. Looking for[s] £250[/s] SOLD which is a bit of a bloody bargain I'd say! Here are some pics, and questions, please ask! And next to my Jazz so you get an idea of the size...

Hi all, As part of my rig downsizing, the GK 800RB has got to go. I've had this amp about 2 years and it has never let me down. These things are built like the proverbial tank and never miss a beat. For those who don't know, this amp has a 300 watt power section at 4 ohms, and a 100 watt power section at 8 ohms, allowing you to bi-amp. I've never run it this way and always just run a 4 ohm cab at 300 watts. Sounds great and gets nice and gritty when the boost knob is cranked. I've only gigged this amp a couple of times and it sounds lovely...sound very warm for a solid state amp. The amp will come with the rack ears which I had to get separately from Polar Audio. Only ever issue I've ever had with this amp was sound cutting in and out when I first got it.. After a quick Google, it seems that there can be issues where the effects loop messes with the signal. I've put a patch cable connecting the two jacks for the effects loop and problem solved. If this bothers potential buyers, I'll get it sorted by a tech, but I'd have to raise the price accordingly. As I say, never had an issue since putting the cable there. I've kept the amp in a Boshma 4u shallow case since I've had it, which I would include in the sale for another £50. Collection of this beast (from Lancaster) would be ideal, or I can drive and deliver within reason, but I'd want some petrol tokens. I'm occasionally down in Stoke on Trent at the in-laws too, so meeting up round there is a possibility. Looking for £350 please.NOW SOLD, I'm happy to sort delivery too but I'll need to get a price for it. Any questions please ask. Not looking for trades as I'm sorted for another amp now. Here's a few lovely pictures!

Anyone used the EBS Classic Session combo's - particularly the 120?
-
Thanks everyone for the help so far! I'll check out the GK combo's if I can and see what I think. I know Ampeg's quality has supposedly dropped in the last few years, but can't get away from that 'classic' bass tone. Thanks again!

Juju - that's pretty good. There's been a G-3 parted out on ebay this past week, but the pickguard was about £100 and the bridge was around £85 - that's before shipping and customs. Tommo - PM me your address and I'll get the guard out. Might be next week though.
-
Tommo - yeah, I think I may have paid slightly over the odds for it. There may have been alcohol involved in the bidding though.... You're welcome to the pickguard, but as you can see it's pretty shot. There's a pickguard template on the flyguitars website, but if you really want it, let me know!

Hi all, I picked this up yesterday from Parcelforce and finally got to spend a bit of time with it this afternoon. As you can see, it's a 70's Gibson G-3. I bought it saying it was a '1974' but I think they weren't in production just then. Pot codes date it to 1976, so I'll go with that. I got it off fleabay, saying it had been left in a cupboard for years, no bridge, no strings, wiring all shot, so I was never expecting a closet classic. Saying that, it is in better condition than I thought it would be.. always nice! The neck has really seen some action with the tuners covered in gunk/mold/crap from many years. Despite looking pretty bad, they still turn smoothly, so a good clean should help. The neck is lovely and worn in, but with a few chips out the fingerboard. Frets will need a good clean to assess them, they may need replacing. No nut on it currently, so I'll need a pro to sort that for me. I haven't tried the truss yet as I don't have the right Gibson tool for it, but neck seems pretty straight with a very slight back bow which will hopefully change under tension. Body is in good condition, although I suspect it's been refinished at some point. The paint job is good for its age, with only a few chips and nicks in the finish, but the pick-guard screw holes and one of the strap button holes are filled and painted - hence me thinking refinish. I'm not too fussed though, I love the look of these basses when they're beat up! Pickups were stuck hard onto the pick-guard thanks to the rusted screws, but I've got them off now. They're pretty filthy (my girlfriend called them disgusting) but nothing a good scrub won't cure. Pickguard was well cracked with cut wires between pickups. One of the pots wouldn't even budge but I managed to salvage the knobs. Everything else is being thrown out - sacrilege maybe, but it really is good for nobody! So I'm not wanting to spend a huge amount on bringing her back to life. I can get a replacement pick-guard from the states and pots etc are cheap enough. Biggest expense will probably be a new bridge as I'm looking at a Hipshot A style. Seems a few folks have replaced Grabber bridges with these with good results. So there we go...oh I should have mentioned. I have zero cash at the moment thanks to this, a car service and a new roof last year, so don't expect daily updates. Probably won't start buying things for it for a few months, but it'll be nice to keep coming back to it every few months. Wish me luck!

Hi all, With 1 gig played in the last 3 years, I'm thinking of downscaling my amp and I'm hoping someone could tell me about the Ampeg combo's - particularly the BA115HP and BA115 (Yes, I've searched). Reviews seem fairly mixed with them, and I can't say I'd never play a gig again so will still need something suitable for the job. Just seems a waste having a GK 800RB and Matamp cab sat here without being used in anger. Thanks in advance!

I have a Boschma 4U Shallow case. It doesn't have rear rail support, and to be honest, I've never needed it. Had a GK 800RB in there for a few years now with no problems.

I can't tell if you're serious or not, but anyone who spend 2.5k on that needs some serious help

Promenade Music, Morecambe!

It's a piece of wood that's the same shape as millions of other pieces of wood. Paint the headstock and prosper!

As many have said, resale value isn't great. I've had a few bits from Warmoth and my current Jazz has a tele style neck from them. The quality is amazing. IMO, the best part of building basses from parts is all the research and looking into the specifics of each individual component. That may seem tedious to some, but I find it more fun than the actual build!

Thumbo - 800 is running through the Matamp 2x12. Sounds killer! I really enjoyed having the Orange AD200B, but it was a lot of amp to be sat in my room, not being gigged. Plus, it sounded its best when cranked...something I rarely got the chance to do. I'm aware I'm still in the honeymoon period, but the Monarch has a slightly sweeter overdriven tone than the AD200. It reacts just like a valve amp with digging in, which is what impresses me the most. Maybe we could have a little pedal swap where I swap the Monarch with dannyboy's Oxford, then he sends the Monarch on to you to give it a bash. I was fairly flush last month and that was the only reason I picked this up. I know people pay a lot for pedals these days, but £130 for a bedroom player is a lot! Nice to try things before you buy, so the offer's there. Gareth - It's a Tea-Rex!! (chortle, chortle)
-
That's great, I love a nice pastel coloured bass! Bigbeatnut - P is there, it is all black though so may be a little difficult to see.
-
danny - thanks for the offer, I'll defo take you up once I've put it through its paces. I'll be in touch! deej - that's good to know about running dirt into it! Can you tell me what the biggest differences are with 18v, or is it just headroom?

Hi all, I'm aware that we have an effects gear review section, but thought this section had a bit mroe traffic and not many people seem to know about this pedal. I bought one of these unheard from Guitar Guitar for the tidy sum of £129.99. Quite a lot, but I knew EQD had a good rep and I was looking for a pedal to emulate the grindy dirty natural sound of overdriven Orange amps. My internet search turned up this beast, as well as the Tech 21 Oxford. The Monarch is meant to sound just like one of the 1970's Orange Graphic models. The 'Oxford' was slightly more expensive, and Tech 21's graphics have never appealed to me, (I know, I should only care about the soundsszzzz) so after a day's wait, the Monarch showed up on my door. I've previously owned an AD200B which sounded cool, but I love the older Orange tone...can't quite put my finger on it, but it sounds great. Things like the OR120 are right up my street with bass tonez. Running a Jazz through a GK 800RB, this pedal gave me that great old school tone (sorry for the cliché) straight away. Volume, Gain, Bass and Treble knobs keep things simple but there is a ton of volume on tap. I'm running the Monarch at 9v (it can also be powered at 18v) and unity volume is a shade under 9 o'clock. Madness. The gain knob is beautiful and set at about 10 o'clock, gives a nice gritty warmth to my tone, but digging in produces a really natural smooth overdrive with a bit of bite and snarl. Gorgeous! The bass and treble eq is useful and really natural. I think I'm goign to run this almost as an amp-sim and have distortion going into it. I'm also going to run it at 18v when I can and see what it can really do. Haven't used this in a live setting yet, but played loud, my bass stands out really well and the slight grit that I get adds a really cool flavour, depending on how hard I dig in. I've attached a couple of pics, but no clips sorry. Not that technically minded. I'm well aware that £130 is a lot for a pedal, but I was lucky in this one giving me exactly what I was looking for. Kudos to EQD and Guitar Guitar too! I used to run a Bassman 135 with a Matamp 2x12. It sounded glorious!

Pedaltrain are meant to be coming out with a rechargeable power supply called 'Volto'. It's meant for the smaller Pedaltrains like the Nano and Mini. Hopefully see a release date for it at NAMM that's currently going on.

I picked up an AD200 for £750 so they can be found cheaply. I'd say £7-800 is standard for them 2nd hand. I've been thinking the same myself lately...

I was perusing the Bass Direct website today and this beauty caught my eye. Just a perfect looking bass. The finish and the chrome pickups is stunning...need to start saving! http://bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Lull_JT4.html
