North West Bass Tutor - Are You Interested in Lessons in 2010?
MythSte replied to nickcarey's topic in Tutors Available
This is a cracking idea Nick, Hope it takes off like it should! I still refer back to the signal chain and compressor papers you gave me -

Ah well you see! My ladyfriend is now driving and is more than happy to cart me round where needed, ive perfected the art of "getting stuck in traffic" and turning up just after the drum kits gone in. And i dont feel at all guilty because no, i dont need any help getting my gear in, thanks! Still struggling to get to grips with how loud this rig is!
Well. I can suggest a second hand or new (if you can find one) Genz Benz Neopack 3.5. This consists of a valve pre with class D power amp section. In combination with a 1212L the sound is warm and expressive. Has bags of tone with my Darkstar equpped P-bass and Lakland 55-01 (sadly now gone). If the band I'm now in takes off - would like to get a second 1212L. I believe the amp with one 4 ohm 1212L is 350 watts and with two 4 ohm 1212L's is 500 watts. Makes for a very light and portable combination. Cheers Bill
All good advice apart from the ohmage on the neo pak, only SOME neo paks have had the 2ohm mod, stock ones will not run 500 watts with 2 4 ohm cabs, it will overheat and die

I just cant get both the punch and zing i like from a passive bass no matter how hard i try! One or the other is usually possible with amp EQ and specific strings but not both! Good quility Passive basses do sound good, but just dont do what i need.

Good god... The pros; - The Markbass and schroeder where immencely loud and tonally wonderful without PA support. - My Bacchus was brilliant - The Crowd where good, and we won (it was a QF BOTB) The Cons; - Getting there and drinking at 7, not realising we wernt on till about half midnight. Thus going into my lady friends car for a sleep, didnt wake up untill 12:27 and taking three songs to remember how to play a bass. we had a four song set.
by that do you mean cranking the high mid on the amp eq? if not could you expand on it a bit more, i'm interested.
I certainly can! Have you ever tried to get a sort of Marcus Miller tone through a hi-fi toned amp and got an almost painful amount of punch when you pop? really full bodied and you have little or no choice but to drop the high mids to stop your ears bleeding, the ashdown cabs just dont seem to have this problem and sound really sweet up there!
-
Well! I have my first gig without PA support tonight! We've decided that due to the size (or lack) of the venue its silly watching the PA struggle with all the synths and vocals aswell as bass when my schroeder would probably be more than capable! I also know the house backline is a marshall hybrid head and marshall 2x10 cab... im thinking line out from my markbass and a really overdriven tone from the marshall... we'll see!
-
Ashdowns one of the few companies that i find sound really great with almost overdriven high mids through their speakers. Something nice just happens when you push them just a little too hard up there, nice! However, not enough punch for me

Farrari with a diesel engine? heh, in all seriousness id like to hear too! Ive heard of a few fretless stingrays with flats but i suppose thats not the same!
commission? we'll sort that out tomorrow morning It'll mean i'll have lop-sided HT though... (yes, the BFM's sound clean enough to me to use as home theatre mains). can't wait to have a go at your markbass, it looks tiny!
Just to point out to everyone here, James is one of my music technology teachers and we're having a bass sesh tomorrow morning. luckiest college kid ever? maybe!

Hey there guys and gals! We will be gigging at cafe mattisse tomorrow night, time tba but after 8 methinks! Theres a very small PA so we're having to limit it to vox and synths only, meaning my schroeder will be exersizing its right to be really fcuking loud! Love to some basschatters there

Help me choose a cab! Schroeder, Dr. Bass, Genz & 2x12 musings...
MythSte replied to wateroftyne's topic in Amps and Cabs
the only thing that stops me GASSING everytime i think of changing the schroeder is the volume it kicks out compared to most other cabs... i really dont have to push much into it to get extremely loud results, and i like that! plus the power handeling on them is huge! most 2x12s are 5/600 watts or so? This ones 1000!
