1. i tried out a squier p 5 string today, and it was fantastic, weighed no more than a normal p bass... for about 700 quid... if you live anywhere near the town of lincoln, i suggest you get your self to the pink music shop near the bus station... fantastic little shop i spent over 2 hours in there today just playing...
2. if that fails, you can find tablature based lessons on here specifically for bass... www.ultimate-guitar.com
3. by your self a ridiculasly large like 14 string bass and see what happens...
4. i only wish they were all like that and why couldn't my first have been like that... just nice to hear that you finally got out there and did it, and who needs a second guitarist, we manage with one so why bands seem to think they need two is ridiculas, by not having a second guitarist means that you the bassist can fill the hole how ever you like! keep rocking sarah! and if you ever need storage for one of your 5 strings my rooms free!
5.
Give yourself plenty of time to get your stuff together before you leave for the gig-it's far better to amble around getting everything together in your own time than to rush around in a panic-that's how things get forgotten. Have a checklist. And remember even if you cock up, it's unlikely anyone will notice, especially if you don't draw attention to it. I've made horrendous balls-ups, and on mentioning it afterwards, nobody knew anything about it. You'll be fine-good luck, and enjoy!
+1 to this i remmember it must have been my bands second performance and at the end of our last number in the chorus just before the end my E string broke! well i certainly noticed but thankfully managed to carry on with my remaining 3 the other bassist who was there noticed as did the rest of the band... but i told people in the crowd and they didn't have any idea... just shows if they don't notice your thickest string braking then they aint going to notice if you fluff a note, you'll be fine sarah...
6. i know your feeling mate, i love listening to metal and heavy rock, but when it comes to playing or writing my own stuff i tend s to be rock! it aint a problem or nothing its more of a blessing, because you get a wider variety of music in your life, i listen ot jazz as well but i would never dream of playing it...
7.
Should those of us whose bass(es) are obviously not coveted by any other Forumite now develop an inferiority complex?
MY BASS ISN'T INFERIOR! THATS JUST BLUDEY RUDE AND I DON'T HAVE A COMPLEX I'M JUST SPECIALLY MINDED! *GOES AND SITS NEXT TO HIS BASS AND STROKES IT* "IT'S OKAY BABY THE BAD MEN ARE GONE" NOW SEE HWAT YOU NASTY PEOPLE DID YOU MADE HER CRY! FOR SHAME!
8. i wouldn't complain if waynepunkdude's custom pick guard fender jazz fell into my hands, i just love the checks!
9. so how did it go? *wait sorry just seen its thursday* well i've been asleep okay! you'll be fine sarah, i was feeling exactly the same as you when my band first performed and i had to sing as well, unfortunately it was infront of a room full of people i know, apparently thats a bad thing but it didn't bother me... just play your f***ing heart out love and everything will be fine...
10.
Give it a try mate.
But where on earth would i begin...

12. no the thing is i learnt to tap because i thought well its another technique but then after learning to do it and play some stuff i really didn't like it... no sorry thats bull crap thing is one i don't like the sound of a bass being tapped and i can't do it
13.
Teen T-shirt, that's a seriously cool pic with the two babes Which one's yours?
there both single and are both very good friends of mine both are fans of my playing as well in the band... and the one on the left announces us on stage before we perform...
14. Tinmans "Marmite Bass" the sound is utterly gorgeous i would also like to steal his Rig... his sound live and in practice just makes me feel all tingly... if you ever feel the need to depart with any of it pete my rooms is free for storage!
15. isn't peterborough near lincolnshire or in it... sorry i never took geography at school... if so that means i'm fairly close by and would love to come to the bash...
16.
This is a big diference to when I was first learning. I drove the neighbours nuts for years practicing every minute of the day that I could.
This is the phase i'm going through at the minute hehehe... how ever i'm personally against having a brake cos i find if i don't play for a few days then i become really clumsy with simple lines and find my self getting rusty so i play everyday for half an hour to an hour... morning neighbors!
17.
QFT. You don't need a rythm guitarist - otherwise there would be no point in having bass.
thats the rule i use for my band we're a 3 piece with me singing lead and my mate on drums and my lil brother on lead... and when he switches to do a solo because we both have really big sounds my bass is quite boomy and in your face and is guitar is very dirty and heavy and so the combination allows us to go on with out a rythm guitar plus it gives me more room to fill the gap and throw in fills when i see fit... so yeah i'm completely against the whole rythm guitar infact now i'm writing stuff for us there will never be a need for a rythm guitarist... so my vote no more than one...
18. really i didn't know so many bass chatters lived in the lincoln area... sweet well yeah i shall keep it all in mind...
19. well read through all 19 pages had a heart attack when i finally made it to the end! already posted but heres some more up to date photos of me...
20. the whole slap and pop thing aint normally to my taste but i do like that... very nice...
21. ever little helps... *sound of tapping change in back pocket*
22. i live in RAF Digby... and travelling is a bit difficult as i have no mode of transport except for my parents atm and not the most reliable things eh? how ever thanks for the concern i think i have it all sorted the neck sounds better than ever and theres no buzz... tarr very much though...
23.
I'm not a fan of tapping either but I would hardly refer to it as you do. Nice to know you're keeping an open mind.
sorry my inner what ever you call it, yob i think just appeared for a bit... i do like to keep an open mind when it comes to bass and the techniques that i can pick up but watching or hearing a bass being tapped just puts me right off... the same with guitar tho i hate it when my lead guitarist, (also my younger brother) decides to tap something instead of playing it just sounds awful...
24. the only reason i feel its mindless w***ing is because i aint in to the whole tapping thing be it on bass or a guitar... nor am i all for speed... i admit yes hat mr. masaki has brilliant technical skills but i don't see the need for the tapping or the excess speed... and my comment was nothing against Paul Gilbert...
