1. I have one of the older versions and it's still very lightweight. The difference is hardly noticeable. Wish I had the money for this one.
2. I bought a Boss VE20 from Steve. Communications spot on and very quick, well packaged delivery. A pleasure to deal with. Steve.
3. I use a PF500 and run it through a Barefaced Compact and I'm very happy with the pairing. I've never had any issues with the amp. It produces a sound I like. However, if you're looking for the GK sound, then get a GK. Try out the PF500 if you can and cross it off your list if you don't like it.
4. I use a Zoom B2.1u and it's a great bit of kit when you get to know it. The presets are a bit Marmite but a good starting point for creating your own sounds. I tend to use mine more for tone shaping rather than anything else and have different banks set up for both fretted and fretless. I can leave my amp flat all night and just use different patches to change the sounds , anything from a double bass to a Ricky. Having a volume pedal is also very handy. I hope you have as much fun making sounds as I have. PS I find that the compressor is rubbish and leave it off all my patches.
5. When I bought a PF500 recently it came with the European two pin lead. A quick phone call to the supplier and a 3 pin lead was delivered the following day.
6. All I got was a pair of socks. Happy birthday and a lovely bass (but will it keep your feet warm?)
7. Not looking for an amp at the moment but have a bump from a local.
8. I had to check the date of the first post. Fly From Here has actually been released for over a year. I thought I'd missed a new album. I quite liked Drama when taken in context with what the band were putting out around that time. IMHO nothing beats Close to the Edge and albums recorded around that era..
9. Recently did a trade with Adam. All went very smoothly. Top bloke to deal with. Thanks for letting me have a play with your Sandberg Adam. I left with serious GAS. Highly recommended BassChatter..
10. I've got one of the older Compacts with the plastic corners and the finish is holding up very well indeed. Buy a cover and I doubt you'll have any problems with it.

12. Here's a few shots from yesterday. More to follow
13. Thank to everyone for a great day yesterday, especially to Rik for planning the day. Sorry we made a loss on the day, maybe those that promised to attend could put that right. I went home with the worst case of GAS known to man. I totally fell in love with non-Precision shaped bits of wood (and carbon), Dave, please don't bring that Vigier next year, my heart just might not take it, superb....oh and that Warwick fretless.....oh and that....you get the idea. I managed to take a few snaps of the day, I'll post some later. Steve.
14. I recently bought an Ampeg PF500 as I needed a lightweight amp to go with my Barefaced Compact. My previous rig was a Trace Elliot SMC 300 watt combo 1x15 which used with the Compact produced a huge sound that I loved. However the Trace was just to heavy to move around (I'm getting on a bit) and I wanted something I could move around and carry upstairs to our rehearsal room. I admit I was worried by all the internet reports of the Ampeg cutting out and also not producing enough volume and noisy fan, so I bought new with the option of a 30 day return if not satisfied. I bought from DV247 for £312 with a 4 year warranty thrown in. First impression, on opening the box, was that the build quality was better than I expected. The casing seems quite solid, very well finished and looks really good to my eyes. Setting it up was very straight forward. I'd seen all the videos so found a decent sound pretty much straight away. It didn't make me go wow and felt like I'd downgraded from the Trace for the sake of losing weight. I had a rehearsal just a few hours after taking delivery so I took it along to put it through its paces. I was so used to hearing the Compact in conjunction with the Trace combo so this was a solo test for both. First impression was this combination really does produce deep bass (which I love) and that there's more than enough volume there for my band, a 7 piece prog/classic rock band. I set the gain so it didn't clip and set the volume to 5. I was pleased to hear that the band thought I was too loud. As I said, the rig had lovely deep bass but I had trouble hearing notes played at the dusty end. Since then, I've had time to play around with the EQ at home and have found a more balanced setting, can't wait to try it with the band next week. I'm still in the honeymoon period but so far I really can't fault this amp.cab combination. No cutting out problems. Very quiet fan. Great EQ. Small variations change the sound noticeably. Great sound if you like the Ampeg sound but can do clean as well. It does sound different with each of my Precision basses which is what I wanted and also tells me that the amp/cab isn't colouring the sound too much. It really does pay to play with the EQ. In conclusion, I now have a one lift rig, amp fits in a laptop bag (just) that I'd be happy to take anywhere. I'd still like another Barefaced cab.on top just so I could enjoy the great sound from this amp but until then...................
15. I'm looking forward to hearing a Midget with my Compact ( if the owner is willing). Looks like we'll have 2 Ampeg PF500 there.
16.
Could anybody point me towards the notation for Starship Trooper please as I'm struggling to find it on the interweb? Thanks in advance.
Does this help? http://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/y/yes/starship_trooper_btab.htm
17.
Vertically Challenged!
Oh, you've met me then?
18. Looks like I'll have to start saving for a Midget now.
19.
DV rock
Very good service and their couriers delivered exactly at the time stated. Can't fault them.
20. I hope so RB. First signs look good. The build quality is better than expected, a really solid case and a pretty quiet fan (thank goodness). I was a little nervous after reading all the reports of them cutting out but I pushed it hard last night with no problems. I bought it from Digital Village (DV247) who offer a 30 day money back guarantee plus 4 years free cover. It did come with a European power lead but a quick phone call and a UK lead should be with me today.
21. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions, it really did help. In the end I bought an Ampeg PF500. I used it last night at rehearsal and was asked to turn down so no volume worries. Tone wise, it has deep bass by the bucketload, I need to play with the EQ some more to get a more even sound with the upper notes but first impressions are good. The rest of the band liked the sound which is a big plus. One last question....how can a small speaker like the Compact create such a huge sound, my teeth are still vibrating. Once again, thanks for all your help. Steve.
22. I recently traded basses with Tony. A pleasure to deal with and being fairly local was great to meet and chat with, despite the rain. Thanks Tony, hope you enjoy the Jag.
23.
Hows about this? Promethean head (not mine might I add) http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry1677822
Thanks Giones, something I'd not considered as the clones looked better value for money and not seen one second hand. Has anyone tried the Promethean with a Compact? Your findings please.
