It is written and so it shall be... Although... ANTIGAS = MONEY = GIRLFRIEND = NO MONEY ... . . .. Does that mean we only ever have one true GAS period or is this proof that in order to fullfill the prophecy true GASeous bassists can only marry once??
What about: ANTIGAS = MONEY = GIRLFRIEND = MARRIAGE = BOREDOM = GAS ... and so the circle is complete.
 2. Used to have a MB Traveller 115P, single 15" speaker with piezo tweeter. Great small size, but the tweeter was crap. If I was to get more Markbass cabs I would avoid the piezo tweeter models. I would prob go for the Club series, I've heard good things about them. A 2x10 with either another 2x10 or that 2x12. EDIT: my mistake, it was the New York 151 I had, still had the crap piezo tweeter though!
 3. Can anyone recommend a good place to get Prosteel singles? Strings Direct don't seem to have the gauges I am looking for - which are heavy, i.e. 135 or greater for the B string. I see D'Addario do a 145 taperwound string which would be ideal. Thanks!
 4.
If you need yet more output and more bottom than that'll work very well. TC states that their amps can be used with three of their own 8 ohm cabs and the impedance plots shown by Bass Gear Magazine show that their 8 ohm cabs have a perfectly typical impedance curve for an 8 ohm nominal cab. Therefore by deduction this confirms that the amps can indeed run a 2.7 ohm nominal load! They'll definitely run three Barefaced 8 ohm cabs or one 4 ohm and one 8 ohm without any problems. I'd strongly bet that this is true for any correctly rated 4 or 8 ohm cabs but without seeing measurements I can't guarantee it - some cabs are a more difficult load than others, the old EA ones being notably challenging. In the very unlikely event that there are problems the amp will go into heat-shutdown mode and will show an H on the LED display. Once it cools down it will start up again and run as normal. But it's very unlikely unless you block the cooling vents or play a very loud outdoor gig with it in strong direct sunlight (i.e. not with our feeble British sun!)
Thanks Alex, more output and more bottom end is just what I'm after! I'll contact you in the next few months if I can find 500 odd quid down the back of the sofa...
 5. I'm lucky enough to have two recent Prestige models, the SR4005E and SR5000E. The quality and feel of these is the best I have ever seen, much better than supposedly £2k+ basses I have also owned or played. The necks are very slim which suits my small hands, very light too.
 6.
finally, terms I understand!
Question is, do I get a Barefaced Compact to go with the Super 12 giving a 2.7ohm load to my RH450? Some input from Alex would be useful here. And what are the signs that this arrangement would not be treating the amp so well?
 7. Bump for a great guy to deal with, sorry it didn't work out for you mate as it's a great amp. Earth-shatteringly loud and very versatile. Good luck with the sale!
 8.
So, based on your experience & similar health problems due to heavy bass playing, i take you would advise me taking a punt on the new Ibanez SR1200 then?
It's not quite as clear cut as pure weight I suspect. I have two relatively new Ibanez's, a five string SR4005E and four string SR5000E. Now the fiver has a mahogany body whereas the four has a wenge top and back, making the four actually heavier. However, the five, even though it is lighter, suffers a bit from neck dive hence the four is a lot more comfortable to play as it's better balanced, despite being heavier.
 9.
If this was the active version I would buy this off you in a heartbeat. Is there any chance you would sell your active version?
Am I right in thinking that it's just the pickups that are passive, and the preamp is active? I have one of these and that's how it is (well, was until I butchered it anyway!)
 10.
My main band has split up and I'll be hanging up my boots for good soon. I have a new obsession to fill my time (photography) and want to raise funds for some more camera gear. So this is up for sale or trade (cash to me). It's just a couple of months old and has been gigged once, it's in as new condition. Anyone who knows me will tell you that I cherish and look after my gear. Bloody hell it's loud and extremely versatile, has a nice reassuring solid feel to it and lots of features (got to TC's site and see). Sad really but I just don't need it any more. Anyway, £675 shipped is what I'm after, trades - maybe a decent head / 2x10 or combo. I dunno wotchagot? Pics to follow very shortly but you know what the look like.
PMed
 11. This one will be put through a Barefaced Super 12T ... oh the anticipation!
 12. Just came in the post this morning, 2nd hand from the evil Bay. First impressions: a bit heavier than I was expecting, though it seems to have been made to the same standard as tanks. The controls with their LED lights are great for a technophile like me. Unfortunately I won't be able to use it in the band for a month due to holidays for various members
 13.
... Sometimes I jam with the drummer, just nonesense, that can help.
This! If you just mess about a bit then that might remind you why you play bass in the first place ... fun?
 14.
Hi there, Im looking at getting a lighter weight bass guitar & have obviously stumbled across the Ibanez SR range in my searches. Im particularly interested in the new SR1200. Has anyone played it? If so, what were your impressions of this bass. Is the EQ On/Off swith the same as a Active/Passive switch? & will i will be able to get more traditional sounds out of this puppy, as well as the newer hifi sounds (im guessing?)? Im also looking at the SR4500E, which comes with the USA Bartollini pickups. What would be the best choice? Are either of these a marked improvement over the SR500 - 700? If there's not much in it maybe i should save my money & go for the cheaper option. Please advise if you can Thanks
Hi I'm a big fan of the Ibanez SR range and particularly the Prestige ones. I have two, the SR4005E and SR5000E. They are great instruments, light with slim necks and fantastic build quality. As they are both Prestige they both have the same Bartolini pickups and the same preamp. You can get a good range of sounds out of these instruments, particularly by using the pickup select control. A nice P-bass style sound comes from using the neck pickup alone, and a good modern tone from using both, which is what I do mostly. I'm guessing you can get a jazzy tone out of the bridge pickup but I don't have much use for that sort of sound so haven't explored it much. I don't know if the switch puts the bass in passive mode or just EQ off, I guess I can find out if I take the batteries out - unusually it uses 2xAA. As for whether the more expensive Prestige models are worth it, I think so, but the cheaper ones are still quite highly regarded. Standard advice would be to try some out and see what you think - you may notice a difference, you may not. PS if you look really hard, there's a 5 string Prestige in the For sale section....
 15. I tied a couple of helium balloons to the headstock. Worked a treat. Mind you, helium's gone through the roof these days - the price, that is
 16.
Bumping, got to shift this now, so £550 including postage, and open to trades/offers. I can't play it since it's not good on my wrists, so someone buy it and use it! G
Strange, I briefly had a Euro 5, it hurt my wrists to play it. Seems like Spectors just don't suit some people. Shame, because they are gorgeous instruments. Good luck with the sale!
 17.
Treat yer misses to 4 or 5 days in Amsterdam and visit coffee shops then go for cream cakes and forget the troubles of the world for a few days
This. Definitely this. Though if you want kit, why not something other than a bass? My wireless system for example is the best thing I've ever bought (Line6 G50). Decent ones are expensive!
 18.
It is still for sale, all the details are in the add. To be honest I keep changing my mind so I'm not actively pushing to sell it now, I'm just going to see what happens but I'd anyone does want it I'm happy to sell. It's a great amp but quite a bit different from my usual MB heads. When it works it works very well but at some gigs I'm finding a more solid state amp works better, especially one whith more EQ for the trickier gigs.
I sometimes have a problem with gigs that just don't sound right. The consistency - or lack of that you have experienced - concerns me. Have you tried something like a Gramma pad? That might help.
 19. Thanks all and food for thought certainly. Hadn't really considered the GB Streamliner but I like reading things like "warm tones straight out of the box". The EQing seems nice and simple too, for a simple guy like me. (My current Trace's 12-band EQ is a bit mind boggling.) Dave, I notice that you happen to have your Streamliner up for sale. Send me a PM if you still want to sell and I will certainly consider yours!
 20.
Yes it is a new one (500W) and thank you very much for replying! I was fearing I was the only one with this problem. I will see if someone can fix it as you say - I'm not really near a Trace dealer and it would cost a lot to ship (so heavy). You say you "used to have one" - any reason why you don't have it any longer? Thanks again.
I don't have it because age has set in and 40kg is a lot to heft about these days! I would get Trace to fix it if you can though. They will know the problem and be able to fix it and also for free if it's still in warranty (don't know if they would cover the cost of shipping though). Whereas a more local repair guy would need to investigate.
 21.
I have a Trace Elliot 1215 combo (with an 18" external TR cabinet), which sounds great - most of the time. Unfortunately, after playing a little while, it will occasionally pop or crack - not high volume related but sounds like a short or speaker popping. Anybody have a clue as to what's going on?
Is it one of the new ones, 500W? I used to have one of these - did the same thing. The problem got worse over a couple of years after it started. I took it to a tech guy, who said that it's a design fault where two tracks on the circuit board are too close together, and there is some arcing between them, causing the pops and crackling. He rerouted it somehow and it was fine after that - cost £50 in all so not too big a job to fix! You could get Trace to do it for free, they do offer a 5 year warranty and these things have only been made for the last 6 years or so. They have recently been bought by Peavy though so I am not sure about the warranty status, you'll have to ask.
 22.
Thanks for the responses, I think I'll flog the Rocktron and get myself a decent chromatic tuner, the TC Polytune looks good, forsaking the poly tuning mode because of my down tuning.
I have the TC polytune, and play 5 string (sometimes!) where all the strings are downtuned, so the lowest is A. I have no problems, and you can also set the poly tuning mode down a couple of steps too, though this only works if you detune all the strings by the same amount, as I do. However, poly mode rarely recognises the bottom string so for me it's only really useful to tune the other four. Still a great tuner though.
 23. I am thinking of replacing my big Trace head with something a little smaller and lighter. I've got it down to a choice of three different amp makers but I would like to hear if anyone has any experience or opinions. As some background, I have a Barefaced Super 12T which is a fairly transparent cab so I don't mind colour from the amp. I am in a loud, heavy rock covers band so would love some deep tones but also play a fair amount of higher register stuff so mids are important. Also, something warm sounding appeals to me. A compressor would also be handy but not essential. Here are the choices: 1. A Markbass head. Probably a choice between the F1/F500 and the LMIII. The F amps are comedy small so that appeals. However it's a digital power amp and don't know how that compares to the analogue of the LMIII. Also both are rated at 500W but I have heard reports of the LMIII not quite having as much apparent power of the F amps. 2. TC Electronic - the RH450 appeals, as does the RH750 but that's expensive. 3. Something Genz Benz. Any ideas? EDIT: judging by research and other threads like this one http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=146242 I am probably leaning towards the Markbass and particularly the F1 or F500. But I would still like to hear others' experiences!
 24. Pics now added. And... bump!
 25.
I'm still annoyed a bit by its tension, its just a bit firmer than any other bass I've had...!!! Odd but great bass for the money!!
Longer scale?
