1.
Thanks for the nice comments guys, we've always prided ourselves on offering the best customer service. Which isn't to say things never go wrong just that we hope to put things right when they do. So it's always good to see threads like this!
Welcome aboard Mark! Us bass players are a funny bunch but it's great to see our comments appreciated
 2.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVmmYMwFj1I
I haven't seen this in ages, nice one
 3. Crook? No. I don't think so. Major major balls up though, and a bloody shame too as it looked so promising. Everyone who paid the subscription should be reimbursed, and then if thing ever does take off, they should still get whatever benefits a paid subscriber would.
 4.
I don't know Warchild, I'm sorry! I think that the MarkBass sound is plug&play, and this is a good thing but, to my ears, with 4Ohm cabs, my LM 800 (A III with a more powerful power amp) was too compressed with a gain setted on 11o'clock, at the limit of peaking as the instructions say. New MarkBass head with 4x10" 104HF before and A.T.S. BB410EG after... I'm not stating MarkBass's only s**t, of course! And I'm a great supporter of Italian brands indeed I think that with a little extra money it's possible to buy an A.T.S. (Italian brand) or a GenzBenz (Streamliner is a fantastic amp, which I use with much satisfaction) or an Aguilar ToneHammer....and those amp (A.T.S. particulary) are so much more dynamic and warm..they sound "real".. And if you want to hear something REALLY neutral you've to try TecAmp Puma! When you can try this two amps in a A/B test...no way..LM loses immediatly..... MarkBass stay were you put it but, in my humble opinion and in my experience, there's so much better with the same budget and, for Rock or other genres were bass have to be rich and warm MarkBass is very limited.
Aguilar and Genz are definitely more of a straight out of the box rock sound. You do have to fiddle with the Makbass stuff to give it the right sound... Or use pedals in front of it like I do! If I knew everything I did about gear 3 years ago I probably wouldn't have bought Markbass, but I'm glad I did as it works perfectly for me now Ive never tried their tube heads so I can't comment on the compression aspect of those, but it's never bothered me with mine! The reason you dislike Markbass could simply be that it doesn't match with the rest of your gear or your playing style. Of course I'm not saying you need to throw away your beloved equipment just so you can have a box with yellow speakers in it! there's a lot of gear I really would love to own but a soon as I get hold of it I can't make it do what I thought I would! I've never heard of this brand ATS though, is that what youre using now? They must be damn good if you're mentioning them alongside the other makes in your post!
 5.
How about the complementary fretted version?
That's even better! Surely the fretless one should be the Imprecision Bass... Well, it would if I was playing it!
 6.
Here's mine I did for my Bitsa. It was a bit of a fokker to put together, so i felt the name was apt.
I love this! Especially the totally contradictory 'Precision Fretless' part
 7. For a very long time I've been fine tuning my sound so that I sound good in a band mix, and when playing just bass by itself... It's proving quite difficult!
 8. Of course that's not to say that you can't advertise an item for a particular asking price, and then have a prospective buyer haggle your price down in a private conversation Anyways man welcome to the forum, hope you enjoy your time here!
 9.
Don't know if this counts but we almost made our singer quit whilst he was plugging in his wireless mic for a soundcheck once. The reasoning for his tantrum? The drummer violently attacked his lunch/dinner with a drum stick, rendering his burger inedible. I found it funny at least
Why? The drummer saved him valuable soundcheck time because he doesn't have to chew it any more.
 10. That's a wonderful thing
I'm wondering why not one person has commented on the counterfeit Fender decal. This is very unethical, plus, why can't the guy put his own name on the bass he made? It's like putting a Opal logo on a Mercedes. Sure, most of us could tell it's not really a Fender, but after it changes hands a couple of times, someone is going to get taken. It's not only extremely unethical to make or own such a bass, it's highly illegal. I certainly wouldn't be bragging about it in an internet bass forum. I'm just wondering what's the purpose of using counterfeit Fender decals? Anyone want to explain why someone would be proud of this when they should be ashamed?
This is probably far superior in build quality to any Fender I'd have ever laid my hands on, and I'll bet a 'real' Fender would cost less too! Not sure what's with the hostility of some of the above comments but oh well!
 11.
Singer " f*** me, that snare`s well too loud, turn it down!" Me "I can`t turn it down, I haven`t even got a Mic on it" Singer " Well put a f***ing Mic on it, and THEN turn it down!"
Absolute genius!
 12. Never heard of 'Marsnall' before
 13. Haha excellent Someone likened them to a toilet seat the other day and it had me creasing!
 14. In chronological order: Hartke Kickback 12 (borrowed) Laney R5 Marshall B25 MkII Behringer Ultrabass BX4410A(borrowed) Markbass F1 / Markbass STD 104HF I don't remember the Hartke much, except for how heavy it was for such a small combo! The Laney I actually kept for 5 years until I bought the Markbass rig, I loved that little guy! The Marshall I bought off a mate for £20, still got it today as it's a perfectly serviceable practice amp The Behringer was horrible, couldn't wait to get rid of it.... I've had the Markbass rig for 2 and a half years now... Very happy with it! Almost succumbed to GAS a few times but it looks like it's here to stay... for now!
 15.
He'd spent the last, however many years, learning every Steve Vai solo know to man but couldn't play an open E?
Schoolboy error, don't speak in notes, speak in frets!
 16.
Well Zakk Wylde (oh, he of the inappropriate solo) plays his guitars almost vertical when soloing so that probably works quite well for him! But yeah it's a complete disaster. Truckstop
I like his riffs and ridiculous over use of pinch harmonics, and the way he used to solo when he first played with Ozzy... Messy pentatonic shredding doesn't excite me as much... Neither does his guitar... which when you hold it vertical it looks like a big ginger goatee
 17.
IIRC the updated limiter did not find its way into the LMIII in the end. However that issue only arose when driving an 8 Ohm cab hard, with a reasonably sensitive quality 4Ohm cab there is no problem generating very large amounts of volume from that range of MB heads (the LMII-alikes, digital power supply, analogue power amp).
I never knew that! And yeah even with my 8 ohm cab I only get the compressing effect if I turn up past 2 o'clock
I will say they that those particular MB heads tend to produce a slightly warm very clean tone, they arent' uber clean (the F1 F500 and other digital power amp section amps are far cleaner) in fact, buit stay very very true to the bass that is plugged into them all the same The eq and filters are really nice, although the sa450 sweepable mids make the eq section far more useful for me. They arent very genre specific at all - if you need grit stick an appropriate pedal in front of them....
There's definitely a noticeable difference in the LM series and the F series! The F series are a lot more aggressive but can be warmed up close to a LM sound if you take a little high mid out. I used to get a great clanky metal tone from it while running it clean. It's VERY unforgiving of technique inconsistencies though!
 18.
Yep, I think tha it has a very plastic sound...even with really good cab MarkBass heads (I can talk about LM and SD) are still compressed and absolutely without dynamic. I know that many great artists use MarkBass in many different kind of music (From Caròn til Orion) but these bad features make, in my opinion obviously, the sound of these amp's only suitable for Pop Music.
I wouldn't say the sound of the heads is overall compressed, but they do have a built in peak limiter to protect the speaker cabs if thats what you mean? Apparently the Little Mark III heads have an updated limiter to combat this. I'll admit that without some EQing, the heads through certain cabs don't sound too great in some rock and metal contexts... However I ran my F1 head through an Ampeg SVT 6x10 cab and it kicked the pants off any all valve rig
 19.
Soundwise, A/B-ing between my OBBM lead, and my old Planet Waves lead, the difference in sound can be described as reducing scratchy mids, and boosting, but tightening both the lows and highs. As good a description could be, it makes it sound like you`ve just changed strings.
Is the difference really this noticeable? Wow! Could the same be said for if I swapped over five or six 6" patch cables to higher quality ones?
 20. I just can't believe I found a guitar worse than the Dean Razorback
 21. Just gave them a call to enquire about my backorder. I think it was Ross who I spoke to? Anyways, despite me trying to assure him I was not inconvenienced by the wait he still insisted on apologising He then popped me on hold where I was treated to some classic rock for about 45 seconds, before informing me he'd just spoken with the suppliers. They should receive my order at the beginning of next week! A little later than they had anticipated, but they do order these things from Holland! With some luck I will at least have it in time for my next gig!
- and no Stairway To Heaven being played in the shop either!!!
No Stairway! Denied!
 22. Before I even started experimenting with pedals I was using Markbass for everything from classic rock to extreme metal. They really bring out the sound of your bass with a flat EQ, and you can get pretty much any tone (as long as its clean!) using the VLE and VPF filters sparingly. You can go from smooth warm and fat, to sharp and aggressive in a split second. If you want any real dirt you will need to add a pedal or similar to your setup, but that only adds more versatility! With SOME styles of music and SOME basses you may not get the tone you want straight away, but not only will you be able to get it eventually... You'' be able do do it LOUDER, with LIGHTER gear, and you'll find being heard in a band setting is so much easier without necessarily stealing all the sonic space In short, yes, you can use it for anything as long as you can deal with the colour scheme
 23. Bumparoo! Anybody got the old one of these?
 24. That sounds great I've recently made my first order with Andertons, of a Stageclix Jack wireless system. I had some questions about ordering, and about the product itrself so I phoned them up and was an overall pleasant experience. They didn't know the answer to one of my questions, but they contacted either the manufacturer or the distributor and then called me back within the hour with the answer. Very impressed with that! I haven't yet received it yet as they were out of stock, but this was made clear to me well before ordering. Got an email on the 9th to tell me that the order should be with them within 7 days, and that I'll receive it shortly after that. Of course, I'm assuming that means working days. I didn't pay for express delivery or anything like that but I'm still crossing my fingers that it will come this week so I can try it out at rehearsal on Monday! I've got to agree with the above, their prices are very competitive, and you can apply for 0% finance over 9 months which even I was accepted for! Also I dunno if anyone's seen but they also have a Youtube channel where they make pretty damn good demo videos of some of their wares (entertaining too! )
 25.
Is that a P/U selector on the upper V?
No idea to be honest, if so it's a really weird and inconvenient place to have a switch!
