  1. Most of the time at home I use my Helix rack which is plugged into my PC as the interface / soundcard and a pair of Yamaha HS7 monitors. Before I got the helix I was using a Focusrite Scarlett (whatever the cheapest one was) with the HS7 pair, and a free plugin on the PC. It was perfectly fine and it was great playing along to youtube etc. If I'm on the move then I have a Audient ID4ii interface that plugs into my ipad with the free version of Amplitube for the sounds. And I've still got the Roland Bass Cube I bought probably 20 years ago now. That's in the bedroom so I can play when I'm banished upstairs to the 2nd telly when the wife & daughters are watching some talent show nonsense. If you've already got the Focusrite then a good pair of monitors will be a great start. Loads of free plugins about to get going. There are youtube vids about free plugins. AxeFX is not a plugin - it's a rack or floor unit that can be controlled by an app on screen that looks like a plugin. There is a PC version of the helix software called "Helix Native" but it's over £300 on it's own.
  2. @greenmanhumming I've re-done the photos. Stupid facebook changing file locations!
  3. Sandberg TT4 superlight. It's just ace. I'd love another one for flatwounds one day.
  4. Mammoth WVH. thought I'd finally get round to seeing if Wolfgang can write a tune. Turns out he can. It's not worldbreaking or anything, but it's a solid album and I like it.
  5. When I play a 5 strings I often drop the B string to A. Simple reason - I often have to play piano parts and the lowest note on a concert grand is that A so I can play the part as intended. For guitar use - I'm usually in D-D or C-C because over the years my voice has got deeper and as the songs I wrote already used the lowest notes I had nowhere else to go for transposing the tune downwards. Lowering the tuning of the guitar also means I don't have to relearn the songs for different fingerings which I would have to do if I got a 7 string and kept it in concert standard tuning. That would be a massive faff especially with any part that used open strings a lot.
  6. I’ve got PLI with my equity membership.
  7. Almost all of them are custom made so you can get them for any position.
  8. That is a real bargain! I have a 2012 Special and it's lovely. The main differences for me for playing comfort is that the neck is a little thinner front to back and the body is slightly thinner too. So it has a lower weight. Very nice basses. I swapped the tuners for Hipshot Ultralights to get the weight even lower and now it weights 7 3/4 lb.
  9. I vote for: 1:Sandberg Superlight TT5 or TM5. But they will also make the V (precision) series in superlight as a custom order if you want. 2: Ibanez EHB. Both lovely instruments. IIRC Bass Direct have a TM5 in stock at the moment.
  10. 1
  11. I have sometimes matched them in the past but then found that some cabs aren't actually the best choice with their own brand head and vice versa.
  12. Sandberg California II VT4 Lovely thing.
  13. I remember when these came out. Beautiful looking basses. I watched Ed's demo about a hundred times I reckon! GLWTS
  14. Amazing! I'll probably get them if they do the entire line!
  15. I have 3 boards. The smallest is a nano. Tuner, filter, octave, compressor. The filter might get swapped with an overdrive if I need it. The largest is a lot bigger (another pedaltrain but I can't remember the model). It has a wireless on it, a big Morley wah, Boss LS-2 for signal routing. Drives, fuzzes, delays, filters, EQ, synths etc etc. That board is for fun but it would also cover everything from a U2 covers band through to a Muse tribute. But sometimes I'll just take a compressor pedal on it's own and a headstock tuner. Depends what I'm doing really. I could easily replace the Nano board with a Helix Stomp. I may well do that one day.
  16. And for some basses the main speaking part of the string ends up going round the tuning machine too - and with a flat that can cause a breakage. But a fair amount of the manufacturers do show the max length between the ball end and any headstock taper so you can compare with your bass. I think you'd want medium scale for Dunlops as their silks start very close to the nut once installed. The short scales would probably have silk in the nut otherwise.
  17. One time, at Heathrow Customs....
  18. Dunlop do them. Very nice too!
  19. I've not played one, but the bridge placement put me off. Seems too far forward and the upper horn is quite short. Screams "awful balance" to me. It seems to want to be a cross between a Streamer (or NS) and a Thumb. If it was dirt cheap I might give one a try, but it would have to be really really cheap.
  20. Far better clarity for me with the DCB. I thought the stock ones were quite dull and ill-defined. The two circuit plug mods definitely help. Basically - have a look at the board. There's 2 plugs in sockets, and 2 empty sockets. Just unplug and plug in again in the next one along. You'll need a small screwdriver to lever open the plug grabbers. Only takes about 5 minutes to do. One of them changes the flat EQ position. Gentle scoop in the wooly bit and a sweeter presence / treble. The other gives a 6db boost when the eq circuit is on. The first one is worth doing all the time. The second, if you don't mind the active signal strength being quite a bit hotter than passive mode. I did both after I already had the DCBs and it added another improvement to my ears. But try the plug swap before spending money. You may like it enough that way. You can always put it back again.
  21. I used to. I had a pair of Status basses. These days I'm not gigging nearly as much so no.
  22. I've sent Tim a message on facebook to tell him there might be issues with his site. He said there was a bit of a hack some time ago but it's been sorted - so clear any browser cache and it should be fine.
  23. It's triggering my Malwarebytes. I;ve ordered stuff from them before Their facebook page https://www.facebook.com/watch/giginked/
