Serendipity: Thomastik Jazz Roundwounds.

If I can get 7 years out of them then they might end up on some other basses too! -
Serendipity: Thomastik Jazz Roundwounds.

I could see that - but I often use D'addario Steel 35-95 anyway so my setup seems to be ok. I will take some allen keys on Saturday though, just in case I play a bit harder and get some rattles. -
If the headstock holes are too big then a common fix is to use plumbers tape to wrap the bushing before putting it in. It works very well. The tape is really really thin so it might need a lot of layers, but you can be very accurate to the size needed.

In a bit of a rush I ordered some new strings. Saw the usual packet, ordered etc. Delivery wasn't what I expected though - instead of Ti Flats, I had ordered Ti Rounds. I knew Thomastik made rounds but I didn't know they made "Jazz Rounds" in the same series. My curiosity was stronger than my desire to send them back so I stuck them on my Sandberg. They are very flexible like the flats are. The wrap wire is a very small gauge so finger noise is very low for a round. They also don't feel like other brands of nickels I have tried - I usually don't like nickels at all and stick with steels for rounds. These feel different. I have no idea if it's just because of the smaller wrap wire or if it's a different alloy mix, but I like them. Thomastik claim they are supposed to be the same as the flats but with a bit more cut / top end. I think that's true at the treble end, but the low end is still closer to a round than a flat. Nevertheless they have a very nice balanced tone and are easy to play. As usual, there's only 1 gauge option so that will either suit or not, but I like them and they'll be staying on the bass - and not just because they are as expensive as the flats! Will be interesting to see how long they last compared to the flats. I have a rehearsal on Saturday so I'll see how it goes.

What is the exact problem? Do you have bushings that are too big / too small for the headstock hole, but they fit with the post?

Done.

The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!

It’s too heavy for me otherwise I’d have that. -
Reminds me of a gig I did on the back of a flatbed farm trailer that hadn't been braced at all. 10 seconds into the sound check we took the amps off the top of the cabs and put them on the floor instead. It was a nightmare.

Novation Bass Station 2. A good first synth?

Can you recommend something else that is still hardware at the same sort of money (£375 ish)? I don't mind editing on computer, but I don't want anything that would force me to take a computer to a gig if I ever ended up needing it for a gig. -

Mainly thinking of using it for writing funk synth bass lines. Probably not a lot of sound changing during a track. -
The gig itself is excellent. It's the rest that's a drag.

I’ve always played both. I spent a few years fronting a couple of bands playing guitar and singing. When I was in the mood for a new band I’d always put an advert up for all instruments and If a guitarist answered first then I’d play bass or vice versa. I always write on guitar too, an old nylon string.

As it says really. I’m loving the demos of it and quite fancy a go. Is it easy to use or would I get frustrated?

Very good point on the upper fret access. I play a lot of stuff that uses the entire board. -
Depends on your amp.
-
Using the Two10 in 4ohm mode and with the One10 in 8ohm gives you a load of 2.7ohm If you set the amp to 2ohm that will be fine to use them all together.

Question for the Hive Mind. I'm thinking about either a Mustang PJ (mex) or a Sterling Ray shorty. I cannot decide between them. Which one would you go for and why? -
Prices are very brand dependent. Ti Flats are fat more expensive on there.

Bass vid I am looking forward to this!

Every bass has its own tone and I wouldn't say a Bronco type bass would be a first choice for slappers even if it was 34 scale. But that tone has very little to do with scale length. I've had 32s that were far better than Dingwalls. Overall I think you can improve any bass for slap with a proper setup and the right strings - possibly a stiffer set to make up for the shorter scale reducing the natural bounce of a particular string gauge but ultimately you can't make an EBO sound like a J bass. The EBO will have it's own slap sound. Musicmasters and Bronco's have a central pickup and they are going to sound more like a slapped P bass. Can probably get a great 'Forget me nots' sound with a good set of steel rounds, but it won't ever sound like a modern active jazz type slap. I get a very modern slap out of my Ibby Mezzo 32, and I bet a good PJ or JJ at 30 inch would be just as good. -
Lovely! The DCB Aguilars are amazing.

I only went once. It was a nice place and Vic let me try just about everything I wanted. He was a knowledgeable host and made a decent cuppa!

Anyone got one? I'm thinking about a smallish combo for easy carrying, jams with a medium drummer and some acoustic instruments type thing. For when I don't want to take my Supertwin rig, and an easier fit in the car when there's more people in it. There won't be any PA support beyond vocals. Will it do the job?
