3.
Don't want to come across as rude - but if you read through all of this thread, it will give you everything that you would ever require and you'll get a good understanding of what you'll need. I guarantee all of your questions are likely to have been answered and much more. In short - everything that you want to hear needs to be plugged into the PA. You main FOH PA needs to have auxes available... or you have to split the connections between the FOH mixer and your FOH mixer using XLR splits. (Assuming you aren't going to do all this digitally). OR - you have to mic everything you want to hear and be completely independent to the the FOH.
Oh no. Not all. I've been reading this thread for awhile. I am a complete novice when it comes to this hence the questions since some of the stuff the guys are talking about I'm not following. But judging from your reply it seems like my idea is doable. Don't want to spend a lot of money on it for my fist go. So I'll have a play around. Thanks.
4. Hi guys. New to in-ear monitoring here. I'm looking to switch but not everyone in the band is plugged into the PA(I don't think the whole band is open to the idea of in-ear monitoring). What are my options? EDIT: I suppose I could get a really small mixing desk to plug the main mixing and ask the guys to plug it on my small mixer so it won't go out of FOH, just for my IEM? Is this doable?
5. Oohhmmppffff. Jerry Barnes' tone is incredible!
6.
I don't understand compression in the slightest but I have a BBE that I have as an always on pedal as it makes things sound better
BBE is brilliant. 1 of 2 pedals that I won't go out without.
7. Of course! And not to mention you need a backup for your backup.
8. This is a rule that I follow: I play active basses, I take spare/backup. I play passive basses I'm happy with one. It's the electronics that I don't trust more than anything. But I do like the flexibility of an active bass. Also a good excuse to buy a backup bass!
9. They are really good. I've been following them for 3-4 years now. I grew up in asia and I've been very envious as they were doing tours there in the last year or two. Heard from musician friends that saw them that they are much better live!
10. Got this from Bassdirect recently. Only selling as a 5 string came up that I would use more than a 4 string. 11. I know it's been mentioned before but I'll mention it again. GK MB series. I use GK MB500 with a 212 cab. Never get to use the master volume knob past 9 o'clock. If you are around west midlands area by any chance, you can drop by mine and try. You are more than welcome to.
12. I've quit two bands so far. First one was a covers pub band. Songist is very much into his own comfort songs. Not willing to learn new current tracks. Took too long to get ready for gigs (8 months rehearsing). Guitarist is fine, actually I quite like playing with him. Good tone, good playing. But comes up with some weird and obscure songs to add to the setlist from time to time. Don't get me wrong, I like playing with him and those songs but it's not really a song many people would know. So I left with a friendly note on why. I heard they are still going (I'm neighbours with drummer) but with ever changing line up. They don't have permanent players aside from the drummer and the songist. Second I left was all originals, all members are about my age. We got on well together. Nice guys. We recorded some songs last year. But have no idea of how to level our volumes on stage when playing. Either the drums was so loud or the guitars with mid scooped EQ. Songist can barely be heard. I tried hinting a couple of times but not really taking it. So, I left in good terms. Currently playing in a function band. All experienced members. Only rehearsed for 3 times and we already have a full setlist ready. And some gigs lined up. Happy days.
