We played a few gigs at the John Peel Centre in Stowmartian. Terribly pay but very nice venue and gigs.

I played that in Edinburgh in August. it’s been on the shelf for ages. Not sure why as it felt and sounded great I was quoted a best price of £1400, although the ticket still said £1799 so maybe that’s why. If I’d been in the market for another 4 string jazz I’d have brought it home.

Last night with The Gray Project was at the White Horse in Beyton. A regular for us they’ve been very supportive of the band and it’s always a fun gig, if a bit cramped sometimes. Nice local crowd and the icing for me, in addition the the lovely pre-gig steak pie and chips, was going to the bar at the end and a chap, who’s seen us a couple of times, buying me a pint and both him and his mate shaking my hand telling me I’m a superb bass player. He said he played bass in a blues rock band and couldn’t play the half stuff that I did. Surprisingly neither of them appeared particularly drunk either. Which was nice. I’ve taken to using my rig upright as advised in several posts on here. It definitely sounds better to me and my band mates have also commented positively.

Lovely couple of gigs this weekend. Yesterday A very friendly village pub in Suffolk who laid on a marquee and barbecue and very sensibly scheduled us to play between and 5 and 7pm. It was like finishing work at lunchtime and going home early. Which was nice. Flattering comments about both band and bass player from the very receptive crowd. Today was Bnatural Festival in Bildeston. Band on top form, plug in and play and another early finish. I’d forgotten how good an SVT sounds (so long as someone else carries it) on stage The sound engineer says he also has an 8X10 but it was a bit much for the stage today. With 4 subs out front, and the SVT and 1x15 classic cab my bass sounded huge.

I just tried the above Japanese RV4 Metro Express that’s been hanging around at GuitarGuitar Edinburgh (I’m on holiday)for a while now and have to say I’m surprised it’s still there. Lovely! I’m a very happy Chinese Tesco Express owner, I’m intrigued to try the new line. At £1400 for the Japanese one, if it had been a 5 string I’d be sorely tempted in fact I think I still am.

Back to the John Peel Centre last night for a funky evening with the The Gray Project This is the stage set up for the support band. My kit is hiding behind after we had sound checks. It was great fun, good sound, nice monitor mix, a great sound engineer and small-ish but very friendly appreciative crowd. I was very tired, having had a 4:30am start for my day job and then playing from 9-10:30pm straight through, fuelled by a massive kebab and chips after sound checking, then loading out and driving home arriving after midnight. A proper coffee and carbs day.

I love mine. It's probably been played at more gigs than all my other instruments combined -

Yes I have a 2006 Jazz with the S1 switch. It works very well when you need a bit of extra thump. -

They’re great.Really nice guys and excellent service. However if it was me I’d go for the Trace Elliot Boxer above.

Yes that makes sense if you have space for the preamp and battery in your Squier. I'd expect the build quality on these is in a similar league. The 4 knob VTC on the control option, that I fitted isn't solderless though that must be an older model you're looking at. Having been a long time Fender P and Jazz fan I love Sadowsky basses for the reasons you mention, plus the light weight controls and neck feel I suspect the introduction of the ME series is a cunning plan as a gateway drug to the Metroline and NYC models !
-
I believe that the VTC upgrade is no longer available solderless. I certainly had to solder mine; which was straightforward enough, although I also had to add a washer to the volume pot to clear the cut out edge on my Chinese ME, rather than get jiggy with my router. I haven't seen this as an issue on any other forums or the Sadowsky users FB page apart from my post.

I’ll give it go at the next rehearsal

Definitely It gives a much weirder palette if usable sounds, particularly using the bridge pickup.

I would if I had two 2x10s but I don't want to stack the combo on it's end
