  1. If its working, don't change it Daryl. Think you're under-selling your importance in the band. Good reliable bass players with a personality that's easy to get along with are few and far between (except for BC members of course). The main reason bands replace someone is usually because they are unreliable and not putting in the work. Most bands i know are happy to come and go a bit if someone is struggling a bit whether thru age or injury. You're doing just fine so stop sweating it. You're a good'un. 👍 Dave
  2. Yep i've been in that situation a few times but always been amicable as far as i can remember. I did leave an amazing Deep Purple & Friends tribute band because the guitarist and the keyboard player were almost fighting and it was close to blows at a rehearsal. They were all from a very rough area of Glasgow. An area i would never go near under normal circumstances. I decided this wasn't for me and there and then said i'd had enough, packed up my gear and said i'm not prepared to be in a band that behaves like this. The singer and the guitarists brother who was listening at rehearsals both tried to coax me to have a think about it first. The band were good but not for me. After 6mths they got in touch and asked if i would come back as they couldn't get a replacement that plays the way i do. Nice compliment and i did return but the guitarist wasn't learning his solos for the rehearsals and i eventually said this wasn't going anywhere now and its just not for me. I had nothing lined up to fall back on. This was 2012-13. All of the band remained in touch except the guitarist who took a huff but for me he was the issue in the band. It was his band too. Don't think i was in another proper band again until 2016 when i retired from work. That was the first Glam band. Dave
  3. Ooohh that's an interesting one Daryl. From memory i don't think i left for another better opportunity. I have left bands because things weren't ideal for me. I've left bands mainly because they weren't working but punk band faded away because the Glam band was getting busier so i guess that's similar. I was replaced in a band because i auditioned for an already gigging band. I did actually get offered the job but refused it when i found out they wanted to do midnight recording sessions on weekdays when i was working in morning at 7am. That was never gonna happen. Wish they had told me this upfront. Dave
  4. Can't get the link to open @Si600 Dave
  5. I think it was well known that Lizzy tuned down to Eb. Or so everyone told me back in the day. No social media in them olden days 😂 Dave
  6. Valid point. Never thought of doing that. Cheers Dave
  7. That sounds like a good day out. I'll see if i can get tickets Daryl 😂 Have a great gig sir. This one will bring back the happiness after the last one. Honest. !!! Dave
  8. You did what you were paid to do Daryl. That's what professional musicians sometimes have to accept. 😎 As difficult as it must have been, you did it, you got paid. Job done. On to the next one. Dave
  9. I'm a recent convert to Joni Mitchell probably in last 10yrs. She has some beautiful songs including this one. I prefer her "Wild Things Run Fast" era but i'm sure i'll end up listening to more of her earlier albums too. So much talent. With regards simple bass lines, your comment reminded me of my first bass lesson back in mid 70's. Simple times Rob. Dave
  10. I had a Flamed Sycamore custom lined fretless 4 string back in early 80's but moved it on. Wish i had kept it. Cost me £740 new. Happy days. 😂 They do make some wonderful looking and sounding basses. Don't get much better than WAL. Dave
  11. My favoured toned basses tend to be from mahogany type woods altho it may well be its the combination of woods and electronics that give me that particular tone. Harder woods tend to be heavier in my experience and as i've grown older not so practical in longer gigs. Its a bit of a trade off these days. My Warwick Thumb is gorgeous to play and has a wonderful tone but not sure i could wear it for a full gig these days. My Sandbergs are my compromise. Reasonably light and the tone is OK. I guess i could replace the pick ups and pre-amp for EMG actives but for me its not really worth the money. Sometimes I would prefer my Sandberg VM4 to have a slightly warmer and fuller tone but not enough to make changes and other times the tone is just sublime in certain venues. I think amps and cabs have a big say in how my basses sound too. Having heard myself with different basses thru the same rig i have noted that they generally all sound quite similar in tone so maybe that old saying of "its all in the fingers" is possibly true. I just sound like me. 😂 Dave
  12. Afraid i'm not on Instagram and it wants me to set up an account. Dave
  13. Hopefully you'll get some decent work from it Daryl. All the best sir. Dave
  14. Appreciate your reasoning and i wish you all the very best with whatever comes along. As long as you stay on BC cause we'd miss you. All the best Dave
  15. All about the bass 😂
  16. That is superb. Love it. Dave
  17. Brilliant. Love the fact you altered your gear to fit the venue. That's ingenuity for you right there. Well done Dave
  18. I have an old Yamaha version BX-1 i think it is. Was gonna trade it in mid 90's but was offered a pittance for it so just kept it. Never gets played nowadays but it has a gorgeous thin neck on it. Dave
  19. That Hohner just looks great even now. You never really see the Steinbergers these days ? Dave
  20. £10 Temu lighting rig ? I'm curious now. Any pics ? Dave
  21. Ultimate Guitar does them. Can save to print or pdf. Depends on what style of music you're looking for tho. Just takes a bit of searching to find what you're looking for. Dave
  22. 100% I prefer his playing to Jaco's on Joni Mitchell albums but its probably more down to her style of music changing from folk to a more upbeat rockier feel that suits my personal taste more. Dave
  23. Great news Rob. Dave
  24. TBH i'd never heard of her but watching some youtube clips i can see why Geddy and Alex picked her. She has a wonderfully accurate style of playing. Not pure power but precise and just some really nice playing. I guess they had their choice of many many drummers out there but they need to feel comfortable with whoever fills that spot and i reckon she will do a brilliant job. I've always been a huge fan of Neil's playing since first hearing them in 76 with 2112 but Neil changed his technique and for me Anika sounds very like him. This should be a great tour. I probably wont go as i just hate concerts these days with people yapping all around me to the point you can't hear the band. Bring back the days when people at concerts were there to see and hear the band and not the latest gossip from their pals. Thats my hissy fit for tonight. 😂 Dave
  25. Superb Andy, great to see things moving along for you guys. This was one of THE best threads on BC. Dave
