  1. Love that funky little twist you have going on there Daryl. I've never heard that played with a pick before but that works so well. Don't think the fall was that bad as i hardly noticed it. I've always thought Crossroads sounded like a loose jam and playing the "Jazz" version works quite well in cream songs. In the mid 80's at a very packed rock venue in middle of Glasgow the 3 piece band i was in was playing Crossroads and the singer/guitarist and drummer decided it would be fun to announce a bass solo from their new bass player. I was using a fretless WAL at the time and had never been put in this position before so i just kept the main riff going and added a few fills and chords but i wasn't happy they did it as i'm not great at ad-libbing like that in front of an audience. I'm ok at a rehearsal kind of thing or even at home but when people are watching me the old panic sets in. Since that day i've told almost every band i've been in that bass solos are boring and don't work for me or an audience. I'd much prefer to work a solo out at home and just play a "planned, rehearsed" solo but none at all is better. 🤩 Dave
  2. Love it when that happens. Dave
  3. Sounding great once again Daryl. Great balance between you all and bass sounds perfect. Deep with a nice click top end. Band is sounding hi-end. Exceptional playing. Love it. Dave
  4. Is that Crossroads by Cream Daryl ? Seems like a big bass rig for the size of room but i would love to play thru an SWR rig like that but i know what you mean standing in front of it. I cant hear my Mesa rig too well when standing directly in front of it. Sounds amazing 6-10ft in front tho. My Barefaced 212 cab is completely different and i can hear that quite easily standing in front or even to the side. Dave Dave
  5. I have a checklist to make sure i never forget anything. I started it because i forgot my Glam Rock boots at one of our earlier gigs and had to wear black trainers but it did feel weird not wearing them 🤩 Glad it turned out ok in the end tho and that's the main thing. Dave
  6. Only recently came across him on Youtube doing Dean Town. Dave
  7. If you ever get the chance to try it have a Jura Duerachs Own 16yr old. Now very rare to find. So easy to drink. Nice bass tone. Is that just backline or PA too ? Dave
  8. Last night with Blockbustarz Glam covers band in Eastmuir Masonic Club, Glasgow. From the word go the organiser was brilliant, then the other staff came in as we were setting up and once again they couldn't have been more helpful. Venue was a good size with quite a high stage and just big enough to fit all 5 of us. Quite long with a tall curve ceiling which allowed for amazing acoustics. Sound wise stage was hollow wooden and created quite a boom on stage and i forgot my Gramma pad. Meant i couldn't really hear the definition from the bass and it sounded like more of a drone. Ramped up the mids and dropped the bass EQ slightly and that helped without affecting FOH. (bass and guitars don't go thru PA). Guitarist was having same issue. Playing wise we were good with very few minor things that only the band would notice. Not as busy as they expected but enough to make it a great night with many dressing for the 70's Glam night. Apparently a group of 40 that had said they would be going never showed and the organiser wasn't happy about that. From what we were told they went to another Masonic in Glasgow all dressed for a Glam night and were wondering why no one else was dressed up. So that made us laugh. Everyone was happy with the show with so many great comments afterwards. Have to mention this one because it was so sweet. One "mature" guy of 80 yrs old with his wife of 86 who were both dancing on quite a few songs caught up with us as we were loading the cars and laughing he told us that when Mikey our singer encouraged the dancers he was thinking and i quote "all very well for you youngsters but i was 30 when those songs came out and i was dancing back then but at 80 and 86 i struggle just to walk so dancing isn't as easy as it used to be but we loved it" and thanked us so much for a great night of memories. We all thought that was so nice and very touching. Usual gear Sandberg VM4, Shure wireless, Keeley comp, Handbox WB-100 into BF 212 cab. Something i've not mentioned in my gear because i forgot was the sound effects we use :- Jamman sampler into a GK MB200 just for the pre-amp and DI'd to PA. 40 min drive for me and mostly motorway so that was brilliant. They have told us we will be back but just need to confirm it with a few others. There is a possibility that a few other Masonic's in Glasgow will also be interested too. All good news. Few vids have appeared on FB Dave http://www.facebook.com/alan.duthie.3/videos/1347271517121402?idorvanity=559305587911326 http://www.facebook.com/alan.duthie.3/videos/1896444287937931?idorvanity=559305587911326
  9. Possibly my fav prog album at the moment. Dave
  10. some great choices there Rob. Many thanks for these.. Dave
  11. my fav DP song. Used to love playing this live. Dave
  12. Apologies there. Dave
  13. Its a shortscale water-bottle with flats on it i reckon Daryl. 🤣 Dave
  14. And to think you were ready to give up a while back if i remember right ? Great how things can change so quickly. Good to see you guys are busy to the end of the year. Much the same here. One weekend off from now to early Jan. Dave
  15. Now we're talking Rob. Classic album. Dave
  16. I see what you mean Daryl. We spent a long time rehearsing before we started gigging with the Glam band. I think its helped us be consistent with our gigs. Dave
  17. I'm quite lucky at the moment. Now that i'm only in the Glam band we don't seem to get "bad" gigs. They always seem to end up good fun nights by the time we finish. What we do get is the occasional unorganised venue or it takes a while to get the audience motivated and that's usually birthday parties because not everyone is there to see the band or even likes 70's Glam rock but we usually get them in the end. 😂 Dave
  18. On a plus note its great to see so many 60+ bassists keeping themselves busy and hopefully i'll keep going a good bit yet all going well. (currently 65) Dave
  19. At 65 now i've suffered back and shoulder issues over the years. Last 4 yrs going to gym has definitely helped but you need to find out what exercises will help your issue. The gym Personal Trainers have all been very helpful in the small family run gym i use. Weight training in past 6mths has been a godsend for me. Not rapid movements but slow controlled weight lifting with 3 second negatives. I still won't use a 10lb plus bass for a full gig but prefer my Sandbergs which are a good easy weight around the 8.5 lbs. Pretty sure i've had this conversation with @Lozz196 before and he's been down the fitness route too but obviously not resolved his own back issue. Dave
  20. A non-gigging classic rock band. ? Just for rehearsal fun i take it but why not do the odd gig. ? Do you mind if i ask what's stopping you gigging Lozz. ? I know you have back issues but is it just the hassle of loading in/out etc. Dave
  21. Great news about the gig but sorry to hear you're giving up the gigging side of bass @Lozz196 Dave
  22. Thoughts are with you at a worrying time Greg. Take care and hope you get the results we all want to hear. Dave
  23. Liking that Yamaha. Dave
  24. As much as i agree with the comments i can see you have no strong feelings then ? 😂 Dave
  25. You're on fire tonight. You on the happy juice 😂 Dave
