Not sure you can get the exact sound of a P bass, but you can get close (imo). Roll off the rear pickup volume all the way, front pickup on full and pluck over the front pickup. Take the tone off about 3/4 of the way. It will still "bark" like a Jazz, but only slightly.
This will be as close as you can get. I have a jazz and a P/J. The jazz pick up just doesn't have the same depth as a precision pick up. I've tried as i love my jazz basses but eventually had to go for the best of both worlds with the P/J to get that low depth of a P bass but still retain the clarity of the J at the back. The new deluxe P/J has a slimmer neck somewhere between a Jazz and a Precision.
Used to do Maid In Heaven in a band I was in a few years back. Always enjoyed playing that one. Sadly I can't harmonise to save my life, otherwise I'd go for this.
Maid In Heaven one of my fav tracks of all time. Fantastic song -

Couple yrs ago i got sick of all the band hassle and decided to pack it in. Few mths later i got a call from guys that just wanted to get together and play some songs they liked "just for fun." They were all playing in various other bands anyways and not really too bothered about gigging but maybe a special occasion or the odd local festival. Met with them as they sounded like a no hassle easy going bunch of guys. Rehearsed for 6mths and we played guitarists birthday and after that they all decided the band was too good not to gig. All went well for the next few mths while we polished off the set then the guitarist decided it wasn't for him and he wasn't really into it. He was the one that originally contacted me too. My point being that its funny how bands that start off as a bit of fun usually end up wanting to gig. Seen that on quite a few occasions now. Dave
I'm doing really well with my Fender Bassman 500 head. It's putting out 350 Watts @ 8 ohms, going through an 8 ohms Bassman 115 Neo cab. This is a good Fender half stack for my playing.
I've been hearing good things about the amp heads in this range. Haven't heard much about the cabs tho. Would kinda quite like a Fender rig to match my Fender basses but that's just being a bit too "look at me with my full Fender set up" Better not. Dave

I went from Fender nickels to D'addario nickel and used them on my working basses. I have Overwater strings on my Overwaters mainly because i won them at a bash bash. I have Elixir strings on my Warwick but find the tension a little too tight compared to D'addarios. Tried the DR Nickels on my goto Jazz bass and love the feel and tension from them but far more expensive and haven't really lasted much longer than the D'addario nickels. I usually change about every 2-3 mths depending on use and how much sweating and i start to hear the tone change and they lose their "zing". I think i'll be going back to the D'addarios again. Dave

I have the Geddy Crafted in Japan version and the neck is very impressive. It has a thin depth of neck in comparison to any other bass i've had including my 80's Jazz altho memory of that is maybe a bit vague these days. I'd say its closer to my Warwick Thumb 89 with regards the depthe of the neck. Its my goto bass for everything these days. If i find it doesn't suit the music or band i'll look at another bass from there. Quite fancie putting the white tortosie pickguard on mine but not sure where to get one that would fit perfectly without modification. Dave
Really kind, hope you're ok Dave. Guess these are like Sandbergs version of Mex Fenders. One of the 5 basses I gig regularly. 2 Mex, 2 Korean, 1 USA. I nearly always use my Mex FSR P/J. A good number of folk have asked to buy that one. My 72 Jazz, Rick & SEI never leave the house now. Maybe if I do the Albert Hall
Doing good Karl. Now retired so life is good. So you finally got yourself a Rik. Nice one. You have had some amount of gear since we met. I got the Mex P/J active earlier this year and i'm very impressed by it. I still love my Jazz tho and keep going back to it. Hope you are both doing well tho. All the best Dave

How do we know that's your hat. ? I think we need to see a pic with you wearing your hat and holding your bass. That could just be a random image of Marcus's own hat. Out of curiosity what style of music are you playing ? Dave PS I'm more the mullet image i'm afraid.

real basic question on a Fender cab from a newbie
dmccombe7 replied to XoSo's topic in Amps and Cabs
If you know an electrician with a multimeter he could check the ohms at the back jack socket. Otherwise you need to take the back off and look at how they are wired. Each speaker should have a rating on the back. Most cabs have 2 sockets at the rear to let you link a 2nd cab. If your cab is 8ohms and you add another 8ohm cab you'll get 4ohms in total. With most amps that would increase the output from the amp. As a very rough guide it would approx double the output. You probably won't notice an increase in volume to much but you would notice a greater "presence" on stage Dave -
What would you do- a hypothetical quandary?
Fixed.
How true is that statement now. Brilliant. Dave -
Those Sandberg basses are pretty impressive and at that price i'm really surprised its not gone Karl. If you had been closer i might have considered it but a little bit bass maxed out at the moment. In between bands too so can't even justify it for a new project either Karl is a top notch guy and hasa great feedback on BC so buy with absolute confidence and knowledge he only buys good playable gear. GLWTS Dave

Found it Jacko. That's an impressive bass set up you're using. Alembic bass with Mesa rig. Nice. Dave

Sorry Jacko i think its a guy from Carluke that was playing The Stonehouse. What's your bands name ? Dave
Good luck Dave and let us know once you start gigging. Always happy to support local bands (and hopefully find new venues into the process). Graeme
Oddly enough Graeme the guitarist lives in Forth I only know his 1st name tho as Dave or more commonly in Forth "Dov" I'll keep you posted although you might see it on FB as i follow your band too. Meant to get to your Hamilton gig Stonehouse but something came up and couldn't make it so keep me posted and here's hoping. Dave
