  1. Hug & Pint Nice & Sleazy McSorleys Maggie Mays (live bands but not sure what type of music altho i think its classed as a rock bar) 13th Note (again not sure what type of bands play there) Stereo The Glad Cafe Bloc+ Blackfriars The Howlin Wolf The Scotia The Admiral Hope some of these help. These are all smaller venues that put on live bands but i'm not 100% sure what style they are putting on. You might be better googling each venue to get an idea or checkout their own FB pages for VID clips or pics. Failing that a wee band pub crawl on a Sat night might be fun. All the best mate and hope it all works out. Dave
  2. I'm 50 miles south of Glasgow and these days don't go there unless its a particular band i want to see or its mates band and i get in free I've kind of lost touch with what venues are suited to rock bands these days. My days of playing rock gigs in Glasgow was more 80's when we hada good choice of venues available. Try asking the question on your own FB page and see what your friends come up with. It might surprise you the list of venues you might get especially if the full band does it. There are a couple of venues on Sauchiehall St near each other that might be of interest to you I know one of them is called The Box and the other one is downstairs and about 2 doors along the street ? Solid Rock maybe ? Dave
  3. Ivory Blacks are always a good option and the Ferry might slot you in a s a support to make a start on gigging front. I know Classic Grand and Hard Rock Cafe does tribute bands but not sure whether they are thru agents only. Think if you advertise your gigs as Zep soundalike or a tribute to the music of Led Zep then people that are interested will come along. You would be best loking for venues who generally have a rock background or clientele. My mate plays in The Led Zep but they generally play larger venues altho they have done some smaller pub venues as an acoustic set. Not every tribute act looks like the artist they are copying but i have found the ones doing the bigger venues the singer as a minimum looks the part Dave
  4. Aussie Floyd i've heard off but never managed to make any of their gigs but i've seen MacFloyd many times altho i know the bass player with them. ABBA not really my thing but i have heard of them. Dave
  5. WOW that's like listening to Kate Bush and visually not far off either. Would love to see this band somewhere.
  6. Going off thread a bit. When i suggested this I meant start a full new topic. Didn't want to hijack someone else's thread. Anyone want to start it off ? Dave
  7. Yep same name different artists and different versions
  8. Funny how things have turned around but i remember that too. Any more than one song from a band and you get slated
  9. Good topic for another thread methinks. Songs with same name but different. ?
  10. I'm the exception to the rule. I'll learn any song the band decides on and usually go a little further and learn the ones they talk about maybe doing in future. Early retirement does have its advantages of course. Just means when it comes round to doing them i'm already up to speed altho recently learned one and they decided it didn't really fit with us even before trying it but hey ho cant win them all. I have come across that with guitarists up here tho so your theory might just stand its ground there. Dave
  11. A good singer would have ad-libbed the right version Dave
  12. Hawd oan a minute there you twa. Yir painting a very poor picture o us Scotsmen. You cannae have it both ways. We're either ginger or bald but not both. I've never seen a bald ginger Scotsman I know loads of Scotsmen with that attitude, they're not that rare to be honest. Dave
  13. Nice Dougie. Had a wee listen on your FB page. Berkeley studios i reckon. Some nice bass runs you're throwing in there too. All the very best with the project. Dave
  14. I only joined them in 2016 so no idea who that would be. Glad i don't know him by sounds of it. Sorry to hear it happened. Don't let it put you off the Hot Love band tho as they are a pretty good outfit. Gigging twice a week most weekends on not bad money either. Dave
  15. When was that as they've had about 18 bass players in about 15yrs i think including me for a short spell. Midge is spot on and very likeable guy. I don't really know the current bassist too well just to say hello kinda thing but drummer is Greg Midge's son and keys is JP and that's the only name i can remember calling him. The 3 of them were all the nicest guys i had played in a band with just all a bit too much demand on my time asking me to learn 34 songs in 3 weeks and then another 20 for the next week was all just a bit too much for me. Without any band rehearsals too but i still keep in touch with Midge and was at his birthday party couple months ago.
  16. No afraid not. The singer / guitarist & Bolan lookalike is Midge Peebles.
  17. I was the same when i first heard them few yrs back wondering why i had never heard of them before even tho they were a huge US band. Weird but nice. Dave
  18. That really used to annoy the Heck out of me but lucky enough current band doesn't have that attitude at all.
  19. Exactly same attitude i have so not heavy or intense at all. If you want a band to work you need to put the effort in otherwise you are just wasting each others time and money. Dave
  20. Remember to mention on BC and i'll make a point of attending the gig. Dave
  21. Are you sure you aint still wearing those 7" boots. You're still a good foot taller than the guitarist. Band sounds excellent and hopefuly you'll be taking this on a full UK tour. I've seen a few tributes to of Rock, Story of the Guitar kind of shows in Motherwell Concert / Theatre Hall and this would pull a good crowd i reckon Gary. Dave
  22. Think you'll find Magnum are huge amongst the rock fraternity. They were well liked musically with almost everyone i knew in 80's I wouldn't underestimate the interest you'll find in a tribute to them. Dave
  23. Is that you doubling up on Sax there as well. Band sounds 1st class.
  24. I have mates in various tribute bands Talk of the Devil Ozzy tribute, Hysteria Def Lep tribute, Hot Love Trex tribute. They don't make huge amounts of money but a lot of that will be down to their agents not getting the good gigs. Some of them have played the large festivals and tell me the money isn't great. Obviously it depends a lot on who you are being a tribute to and how close you are to the originals. The AC.DC tribute act mentioned above seem to be doing exceptionally well and that's by far the best i've heard any tribute do. All credit to them they must be helluva good. I've done a Friends of Deep Purple tribute band and it was great fun doing the songs i grew up with all those years ago but the money was ok but no more than most rock cover bands. There's always work out there for good tribute bands so i'd go for it and just enjoy it for what it is. As long as you are having fun with it then its good news in my book. Dave
  25. Think our band has an open outlook too. Usually something isn't quite right we'll finish the song and go back to whatever isn't quite right. Everyone seems to know what that is tho but its usually done in a humourous way and never seems to offend if someone picks you up on something or other. Our previous keys player couldn't quite hack that approach and took it too personally and left. Our new keys guy has so far been open to suggestions and ideas and is upfront in asking if what he's doing is ok.He's only had one rehearsal so far but very promising. Many of our covers don't have keys so he likes the input from us on how best to tackle those particular songs. I think there are ways to approach different people tho so its horses for courses really. This is the first band i've been in that everyone has a similar attitude to learning new songs and getting the fine detail sorted too Its actually quite a relief to do a new song at rehearsal and find positive comments along with minor issues. I wish everyone could experience this and know what its like to be in a band where everyone thinks the same. Dave
