  1. You could try this altho its maybe a little too slow for a Xmas party song. Great song tho.
  2. Was watching Scott Devine doing a thing with D'addario Tapewounds which he really liked as they had a nice bite but were smooth to play plus he said the tension was quite low compared to Rounds and Flats. When he played the flats they just didn't have any bite at all so now its got me wondering whats best for me again. Are they an option ? Think i need to really think about what i'm looking for now ? When i play with the band i don't really notice any fret noise but during some songs where bass is more prominent or on its own i can hear it but maybe that's just to be expected as i do hear it on many solo players VID clips when live. Just back from my anual Xmas lunch so few vino's and a wee malt or two has now got me thinkng and not very clearly. More thought required when completely stone cold sober.. Dave
  3. That's good to know about the Cobalts. Dave
  4. I keep meaning to go see them as their set list and history behind the band is exemplary. Dave
  5. Aha see what you mean. Hadn't thought about that so i might stick with D'addarios flatwounds. I'm quite a fan of their nickel strings. Thanks for pointing that out. Dave
  6. Didn't realise there were so many Wishy folks on here.
  7. I seem to do that as well. I tend to buy things when i start a new project. Dave
  8. Quite enjoyed that. Like thing the bass tone. Nice mellow and rounded. Cheers up there in Stenny. Dave
  9. It just gives me a better idea of what music they suit. Thanks for that. Definitely going to give them a try on my PJ first to see how they sound. I can see another Xmas pressie to myself coming up. Dave
  10. Appreciate the offer but i'd be too scared i liked it too much and my wife would throw me out if i bought one of them Maybe if i win the Lottery on Tues night Thanks again for the offer and i'll keep you in mind if i decide to go for one some day. Dave
  11. I fancy trying a Vigier. They just seem to make sense. Post a wee pic just to annoy the jealous head on me Dave
  12. Yep but look on the bright side. Once you get it back it will be double checked and double checked to be perfect cause he won't want to see it happen again and get bad publicity. He has a great reputation for quality gear so i'm guessing he'll do a fantastic job for you. Fingers crossed for you anyways and i've put a good word in wie Santa just in case 🎅 Dave
  13. If i stick to a decent quality manufacturer it should give me a better idea of what they sound like. The feedback has been very helpful Dave
  14. The EB Cobalts come across as an interesting option. It will probably be them or D'addarios i go for. Don't want to go for a cheap option string in case it puts me off so a reutable string will be best. Steve Harris gets a nice twang from his strings right enough even tho i'm not really an Iron Maiden fan i do quite like his bass tone. Dave
  15. Sorry about that i'm afraid i didn't recognise the car but i get it now.
  16. Curious what type of music you are playing ? Will help me understand who is using flats and for why ? Dave
  17. Have faith Moriarty, have a little faith. Positive attitude and Santa will make all well again. I hope so anyway.🎅 Dave
  18. Now that's what i was hoping as i like to hear the mids and little hi end and don't usually go for a thumpy bass tone either. So this makes more sense to me Dave
  19. Thanks for posting the clips. Think there's maybe a little too much happening in the clips to really hear the bass sound but it definitely sounds nice in the mix. Dave
  20. One thing i've noticed with Flatwounds are they generally seem to be 45-105 or upwards. I generally use 40-100 nickels. I like the tension in them compared to the 45-105's Is the tension different on the Flatwounds and what would you recommend for someone that currently likes 40-100 nickel tension. Dave
  21. Think you'll need to explain that one to me ?
  22. Noticed that a few people have them fitted on their Jazz basses which is my preferred bass. I'm liking the idea so gonna try a set. I'll have a look at the EB Cobalts to see what they say about them and then take the plunge. I've only just ut a new set of D'addario nickels on my Jazz bass but my PJ needs a new set so that will be the guinea pig trial run i think. Thanks for the help and advice. Its what makes BC such a great place to be. There's always someone to offer help when needed. Excellent Dave
  23. Do people change because of the feel or is it the tone that attracts people to them on fretted basses Or is it because they last longer ? Dave
  24. I've used flats on fretless basses many yrs ago but was more curious as to using them on a fretted bass. Do they reduce fret noise on fretted basses ? I play mainly rock music Glam Rock at the moment so not sure they will work well in that environment. Think i might give them a try out. I'm a fan of D'addario nickel strings so might try theirs first.
  25. I never claimed to be any wiser with age and some would even say i've gone the opposite way Would like to try out the Mesa Subway cabs at some point but the PH212 weight isn't much of an issue for me at the moment as i can carry on my own at a push plus my bandmates are all very helpful with each others gear. Dave
