  1. I'm actually wondering about that too. I generally just want to hear my bass on stage and if thru PA its DI'd anyway so its really just a basic monitor for me.. Only thing is i've tried smaller combos and they just don't cut it on stage for me. My Mesa head and 212 cab seem to fil the stage more same at rehearsals when i take it. The studio Ampeg 810 and Aguilar SC500 amps never seem to cut thru the mix the same way or fill the room. Might look at the Mesa Subway lightweight gear now that i've tried Mesa i'm a convert. Expensive tho but that new WD800 amp looks and sounds the biz on youtube anyway. Dave
  2. Yep i've been mistaken for a fence post in past bands too. I need to move more on stage.
  3. I remember going round the hi-fi shops in 70;s doing just that. Could never afford the top of the range kit tho. Mate had a Linn deck with Tannoy cabs. Can't remember what amp he had but he had the installation contract for Tannoy and owned a record / CD shop back then plus his wife at that time was a Sales Manager in Tower records. Some sound but he did have a big detached house to enjoy with a huge bass sub cab. He had a dedicated room for his albums and hi-fi gear. I still have my old Sony deck from 76 and NAD amp using Bose and Mission speakers and it still works a treat. Dave
  4. That's a look all bassists share Nice Dingwall bass there. Dave
  5. Aye that'll teach you. At least it was an outside gig with fresh air. Not so good if a hot sweaty nightclub.
  6. Debut gig with Blockbustarz last night at Ivory Blacks in Glasgow. Fantastic night of 70's Glam Rock music. Very warm night and a great crowd all having a great time dancing to some classic Glam music.
  7. Aha but Lemmy's mole is on his left cheek and you can't see it in this pic. He was jamming in a local boozer with someone else's bass that day
  8. You need to get a Walnut Ric bass and you are Lemmy. I thought it was Lemmy too. Well done.
  9. Sold a few and bought one recently so i'm down to 7 with my Dingwall NG2 up for sale at the moment. I might look at a Limelight P bass when i sell the NG2. Dave
  10. Still here kinda bumpity bump. Fantastic amp at great price.
  11. Still here now with added price drop. Surely a bargain at this price.
  12. Have that song on Best of Barry White and i know i've heard that bass solo at the end but not sure if its on the CD i have. Now gonna check. Fantastic song but then again Barry White had so many great songs over the years. Dave
  13. That's very nice. Love a maple neck. GLWTS.
  14. no probs at all.
  15. Thanks for that Phil but that wasn't my quote you replied to so no idea what's happened there. I was curious to know tho so much appreciated and that makes a lt of sense. Dave
  16. oddly enough its the vocals that overload my ears when too loud. Guitar, bass or drums even keys i never have a prob with but certain male vocals in certain songs i just start to feel uncomfortable. Not the actual singing of course just the frequencies. Dave
  17. Of your P basses do you have a fav ?
  18. Don't know the exact theoretical answer but for me you feel 15"'s more than 10's so perhaps you just felt as tho they were louder. Just a thought Dave
  19. I didn't realise he had lost his battle. Such a shame he seemed to put up a good fight too. So sorry to hear that. Dave
  20. Until a new band gels by playing several gigs they need to remain focused on their playing. Once a few gigs under their belt they should be able to relax a bit and just enjoy the show. You can rehearse as much as you like in the hope things will always be perfect but its live gigs that really tighten up a band. IMHE. Dave
  21. Losing focus after taking a relaxing short break maybe ? I find our band can be like that when long gaps between rehearsals yet when we have 2 or 3 in a trot they all go really well even after a coffee break. Try not takng a break see how it goes. If its a 3 hr session like most studios do it'll take the drummer 30mins to set up and same to dismantle which only leaves 2hrs playing. That's basically a one set timescale. Dave
  22. And there's me thinking the tone of the 15" was just sweeter.
  23. Likewise its just a great place to hang out and have a blether, get things of your chest and offer any help, advice you can. I've gained loads of information from the guys on here. I enjoy the posts where people offer help with gear like your own situation. It gives you a sense of pride and a happy feeling to know that people will lend gear to complete strangers who are having a bit of a hard time. You hope that others would do the same for you if you ever needed it. The words of support you get can bring a tear to your eye at times. So many touching stories on the forum and hopefully the comments help that person get thru a difficult time. We've had people going thru difficult medical issues and letting us know what going on in their life and the comments seem to help them get thru it. Its just a great place to be. Dave
  24. Nowt wrong with his handle. I think its exceptional. altho i prefer the Scottish version with the reverse d (dmccombe7)
  25. For many years i used the mixed cab combination of 1x15 & 2x10's. Never had any issues. From custom rigs thru Peavey to TE to Orange all sounded great......but heavy. More recently i've used a 12 instead of the 10's and that was ok. My Berg cab is the 1x12 + 2x10's + horn and its a nice clean warm sound with plenty of punch. It can depend on what style of music you are playing. I used the 1x15 & 2x10 rigs for rock and prog. I currently use a Mesa 212 cab for my 70's Glam covers band as it has that older vintage tone where mid punch isn't needed as much. Use my Berg HT322 when bigger venues require it or no PA support. Dave
