1. I understand about the baby oil, but I agree that the egg whisk was probably a step too far.
 2.
It just stopped making sound above the level of a mouse squeaking in a rehearsal last week (and the effects/send doesn't override this) - AI think the power amp has gone, based on my rather more detailed description of events. I did ring Overwater to see if there's anyone else but they only recommended sending back to AI. To be honest I will be selling this combo when it is fixed (as I have had to buy an emergency replacement for a big gig tonight) and I would rather any would-be buyer had the AI 'guarantee' attached to the repair work.
Is this AI under warranty?
 3.
I don't get the almost rabid anti-guitar vibe of some in the thread. Don't you generally play with guitarists - so why the hatred of the instrument? I dislike acoustic guitar sounds, and would not choose to listen to acoustic music, but I'm certainly not at the level of wishing they were all firewood.
I think it's more dislike of the stereotype of the worst examples of some guitarists , not the instrument itself.
 4.
No connecter's, soldered join's like the original speaker's
I probably didn't explain that too well. If you look at the solder join you'll see a little wire that runs off to the cardboard speaker cone. Those are the little wires you need to poke.
 5. Check the little braided wires that run from the speaker terminals to the cone, give them a little push with your finger to move them slightly - they can sometimes vibrate against the cone.
 6.
I bought a new tweeter because my old one was having little or no effect on the high end of my cabinet apart from a bit of extra hiss. I just plugged my new tweeter in (official ampeg tweeter) and I am having exactly the same problem, little or no effect... Anybody know what's going on? Could I fix it at home? How much would it cost to get repaired if not?
First thing to check would be did you connect the replacement tweeter the right way round (red wire to the + terminal on the tweeter)? If that's ok then I think there's an attenuator control on the back of the 410HLF? I'd take a look at the wiring going to and from the attenuator assembly. If that looks intact then the attenuator itself would be my prime suspect at that point. HTH
 7.
Hmm, they are plastic corners, not metal ones. Thanks for the help though! If it helps, you can see them here - http://www.aguilaramp.com/products_cabinets_gs112.htm
Something like these? 8.
Personally I'd like to be able to pick BC'ers out of the crowd too
I misread that didn't I?
 9.
I'd go for a basschat shirt. In black obviously also would consider a wristband, and maybe a sticker for my pedalboard which incidentally would never have existed if it weren't for this place! ... Also how about a plastic yellow and black 'chat' to stick on my cab next to the 'Markbass' logo?
And after all that lot, what's the betting the first thing said to you will be "do you use BassChat?"
 10.
Personally I only need to do the hiccups - usually the audience supplies the sobbing sounds
LMAO!
 11.
I play guitar, but strictly rhythm - I don't want to make it cry or sing (which is just as well, cos I can't).
I usually content myself with faint sobbing and hiccups...
 12.
Usually would work but in this case looks like everything was pulled down and changed to a last page with final sale prices on which ran until yesterday. All cached images on the other pages are gone. Somebody with an interest in these basses should contact the guy - his details are on the cached page - and get the rest of the stuff before it's gets binned.
Yep. There's a robots.txt file in the root of the folder and it's been set to prevent caching.
 13.
Ah another one who needs to stay away when I perform
Well, certainly out of range of unexpectedly released plectrums at least...
 14. I can play guitar, but not to the standard that I'd feel comfortable to perform at.
 15.
So I got a Trace V6,in good nick,I know a bit about amps and I had a look at the internals, all looks pretty good,no burnt boards or melted or messed about wiring,a nice clean example, but it had ge 6550s fitted and should have Kt88s.It performed OK but I had only practised with it twice and sounded to have little more distortion when pushed than should have.So had it serviced and revalved recently in Nottingham,4 new JJ pre amp valves,6 matched gold lions. They said 2 pre valves where nackered, and they give it a clean bill.Got it back and was really looking forward. Now heres the problem, start to give it some juice,5 on the gain and approx 3 on the volume,(any more and it cant handle it)and it really started to crack the speakers, very harsh.Sounded like the cones where blowin out! Took it back and was told it had taken out 2 88s due to bad connection (where?),I thought hold on these are new.Two more fitted and rebiased again, still the same. They now say its been modded and a pre amp valve wasnt working or bi passed? ( Hold on wasnt this checked)! So they sorted that.Went to pick up today and still the same! So a month later and an esculating bill of hundreds they now think it could be an output transformer! Frick. I just want it right. Starting to loose faith if you know what I mean.So sorry for the essay, but is there anyone here in Basschat Land that knows about these amps and can repair em. Or anyone can recommend some one.Any help Guys!
Trace originally produced the V6 with 6550s but changed to KT88s later on for reliability reasons. If your V6 had 6550s in it when you got it then maybe it was never designed to use KT88s and this is where your troubles are coming from?
 16.
Has anybody bought anything from these guys? What are they like?
Yep. They're based not too far from where I live. I've had a couple of 'off the peg' flightcases off them over the last couple of years and not had any problems.
 17.
.....Westone.info has shut down!
If you go to the cached site you can download all the pages and images and keep them safe as a future reference. Obviously, it'll no longer have people adding to it, but at least you can preserve a local copy for yourself. Googles web cache has a limited timespan on it though, so you'll need to do it before it disappears completely. Another way of grabbing a cache of it is to go to web.archive.org .
 18.
thanks are they easy to change,is there any soldering involved
As the jack socket on the XB400 is on the bottom edge of the body (as opposed to being mounted on a scratchplate), the chances are it's going to be one of the long barrel sockets. They're easy to replace but it does involve a little bit of soldering - three wires in your case I think.
 19.
I was really looking for the Custom with the carved body but I didn't get on with the gloss neck. The satin one on the one I've chosen was much much nicer for me to play.
Is it just me or do others find that the satin finish becomes a gloss one after a couple of months? I've had two satin finish necks and they both look like they're gloss laquered with the exception of the back of the headstock.
 20.
Why would I want to make it smaller?
Easier to get in the washing machine? EDIT: I might just be getting a little bit confused here...

 22.
I have been fiddling with this tune, hence the interest... 2002 Heathen Tour:- this guy plays a Stingray on some vids I have seen for Ashes To Ashes, but here he is slapping the crap out of this Fender J and so far up the neck compared to how I try and play...good player though, so maybe I should try it further up! ......who is he?
A chap called Mark Plati I think. I'm no slapping expert but I have to slap my J up high as well or it makes me sound more rubbish than I am at it (if that's at all possible!) - perhaps a JB quirk?
 23.
I have an XLR to speakon lead for one of my amps, I think XLR is better than jack, as it is secured, they sort of predate speakons for people that figured jack was a bad speaker connection method on high output equipment.
It's quite amazing that the jack plug has lasted as long as it has - it was originally designed for use in manual telephone exchanges well over 100 years ago! I reckon that makes it the oldest electrical connector still in common use.
 24.
What could be more stylish and practical than a keyfob? It would look the biz hanging off your ignition key as you drive to and from the gigs and if you want to let they guy on stage know your a BCer just rattle your keys in front of him with a knowing nod and wink................ oh hold on erm......... That wrist band thingy sounds good doesnt it
LMAO
 25.
I think the pic you posted, what a beauty by the way, is a V8.
Now I look at it again, you're dead right - it is a V8!
