Yep i tested it after fitting the new barrel socket and all seemed fine, i was very careful to connect the wires up the same way as the existing socket, and given that it did work for a bit, i think i got that right. The new socket was one of the Maplin ones whick are neutrik
Probably a really daft question, but are you sure that the contacts on the Neutrik socket are laid out in the same order as the original Warwick one?
Doesn't work with the type that is generally fitted into Warwick basses as they are sealed and can't be bent back to make contact!
You can if you have the right tools. I've managed to repair those barrel jacks a few times using these: http://export.rsdelivers.com/product/rs/8-piece-spring-hook-set/0619200.aspx. However (yep, you knew there'd be a 'but' didn't you... ), every time you do it you weaken the contact and the time between repairs being needed gets smaller and smaller.

I guess it really depends on what your expectations are of it. My experience of acoustic basses is that they're generally too quiet to play alongside other acoustic instruments without amplification.

It's that awful tossup between being mercenary or moralistic. As a starting off point I'd go see the pub landlord and see if they would be amenable to shifting the date backwards or forwards a week. If they are then you've got no worries.
Dunno anything about Warks, but it sounds to me like you have fitted a stereo socket and used the wrong terminal for the tip. Stereo sockets are sometimes used as a switch, ie, when you plug a mono lead in, the middle ring gets connected to the outer. Just a thought.
That was my first thought as well - having the ring and tip connections reversed would cause exactly what Garry describes, but he said that it worked after he fitted it.
I used to have an epi explorer with gibson and epi logo on it similar to this. http://www.promenade...by-gibson-strat nasty piece of wood and probably only managed to get rid of it due to it saying gibson on the headstock
Just to test the theory out, would that have been a late 80's/early 90's sort of age range?
As a long term Warwick user, I can confirm that Warwick barrel jacks are/can be as much use as chocolate fireguards.
I'm not a Warwick user but, in fairness to them, it's pretty much a universal issue with that particular design of socket. I love then and hate them equally.

iPad Rig - is there a floor board to use with amplitube?
4. Not at all convinced of the suitability of using ethernet cables and RJ45 connectors in gigging situations. These cables are designed for static installations - not constantly unplugged and coiled up every evening. Neither the cable or the connectors are robust enough. I'm already on my fourth cable for my Pod and Shortboard. The specialised multiway DIN cables that I had for my previous Peavey and Roland systems were much more gig-worthy and robust.
+1 Both of the guitarists in my band have had the same problems with their Pod setups. After several plug changes I've fitted boots over them and that stops (or lessens) the clip breaking off but the cable isn't really flexible enough for gig use. The best I've been able to come up with is using flexible multicore cable with a bit of heat shrink round the ends (so it sit's tightly in the back of the RJ45 plug prior to crimping) and using CAT6 plugs instead of CAT5 so that the cable former holds the cables in place while you crimp them. -
Thanks chaps - I wondered if it was like the Fender Squier/squier by Fender MIJ/MIM/MIC/MIK/MIA etc malarky & whether it represented a badge of quality assurance. Probably not methinks, maybe, perhaps?
I'm no Gibson expert by any stretch of the imagination but I think it was more of a brand positioning thing than a QA thing.
Um, and Derbyshire. That's why the pub is called the Four Counties.
I knew I was missing one when I wrote that but for the life of me couldn't remember which one it was... I don't get out much...
An inhabitant (of the village, not the pub) told me that the reason for the name was that in the far-off days of highwaymen (before they started running banks), the village wasn't actually in any of the four counties, and so highwaymen would head there as none of the constabularies attached to the counties had jurisdiction there.
That'd sound about right. There are stories about locals in the Four Counties Inn climbing out of the rear windows when the authorities came in through the front door.

If you hadn't checked it out and found it working after you fitted it, it would sound to me like you've managed to get the 'ring' and 'tip' connections the wrong way round. If it worked prior to the practice then you've got a dodgy socket. EDIT: It's possible to damage those sockets if you overheat them whilst soldering.
So forgive my ignorance, I did have a look at the Auralex website, I have a MB 151P Traveler cab which has a slightly bigger footprint than the standard Gramma, I don't suppose that would be too much of a problem would it - the slight overhang? I don't want to go to the next size up as some of the venues we play are a bit tight for space.
I went for the larger version (I didn't want anyone bumping into it and making it overbalance) but I don't see why the smaller one wouldn't work with an overhang. There's probably a much more scientific way of explaining it but all the thing really does is to put a damper between the cabinet and the floor to limit vibrations from passing from one surface to the other.
Actually, Wilnecote gets pronounced at least three different ways by people who live there. I favour Wincut meself, but there's the Willun Coat and Wilny Coat schools of thought. At least Tamuff itself is a pretty standard pronunciation. Dunno why icastle is so bothered by Scotlandshire, coming as he does from Lie Sester Shire.
Lie Sester Shire is a fairly new location for me - I'm actually from Bedfordshire.
Been thinking of buying one of these for a while now - are they really worth having? I've not heard anything bad about them, just a bit cynical I suppose?
I really don't know what it was that possessed me to purchase one, it's certainly not something I'd have normally considered buying (or indeed buying into the concept of). But, I did and I honestly wouldn't be without it now. I've found they don't have a huge effect on concrete floors but the diference they make on a hollow stage is very pronounced.
After a particularly boomy night I've just ordered one. You'd all better be right - that's nearly 5 curries !!
You'll get far less booming with a Gramma than you would after 5 curries...

Epiphone were bought out by Gibson many years ago (early 1960's?) and have always had a pretty rocky ride. They were manufacturing their own designs alongside the authorised Gibson copies and even had a pile of rebranded stuff coming out of the Matsumoku factory during the 70's (betcha didn't know that did ya you youngsters! ). In the 80's Gibson was bought out and the Epiphone brand was mostly ignored while the new owners battled to get Gibson 'back on track'. In the 90's it was decided that Epiphone needed a direction other than just making, what was essentially, a mish mash of random models to plug non existant gaps in the Gibson product range and a lot of time and effort was put into 're-creating' Epiphone. That was when the perloid 'E' was adopted as the logo and I think that's when the reference to Gibson was removed. Gibson still own Epiphone.
Kustom Amps were a work horse of amps back then.
I don't actually remember those being around in the UK in the 70's - I was under the impression that they were mostly US based until the 80's when they ditched the scroll/pleated models in favour of the tolex covered ones... Having said that though, like a few other examples of amps that have appeared in this topic so far, it was a long time ago and I can't actually remember what I had for dinner last night...
