When I was with the guys from Ibanez Japan a few weeks back they pronounced the I as eye-ban-ezz
Yep - that's how I pronounce it but I sometimes hear Ibb an ezz or i bahnezz or eye bahnezz.
Not far from where I live, theres Warton, Pronounced Waaarton by the locals, and Wilnecote, which is Wincutt. mah duck. I can remember Dionne Warwick,( the Cilla Black impersonator ) telling someone on a chat show that it should be pronounced War wick.
Ah, I'm just up the road from you in Heather (pronounced Heether but I reckon it's speech impediment caused by interbreeding).
I do hope you're right. Cos that's what I was saying all day at LBGS in reference to where Dood would be hanging out...
I'm always right, it's one of my many attractive qualities...
Ooo er, I've said 'hanging out' and I think discreet's lurking about somewhere....
I'm sure discreet wouldn't stoop so low as to take advantage of a verbal slip up like that... ... I'm probably wrong there though...

There's a fair bit of 'rule breaking' done with IEC leads anyway. They only come in two ratings, 6A and 13A. 13A ones have a notch cut into the bottom (the socket has a corresponding 'lump' to prevent un-notched plugs from being inserted) and 13A rated cable fitted. 6A ones don't have a notch and have 6A cable fitted. I'm betting that the GK, in common with most musical kit, has a 6A type socket.
Cor, my head hurts reading all this - at least I don't have this problem with my Funders
You mean Füéndérs?
Inclined to agree. Or you could get an adaptor for the supplied power cord... but it means you need to go shopping sooner or later.
From what I can remember, I think the adaptors only come with 3A fuses fitted - so you'd still need to buy 10A fuses anyway.
So is Hartke. Hartk, Hart K, Hart, Hark, Hartkey ??? As for Warwick, I guess if you English its Warwick, if your American its Waar wick.
I always thought Hartke was 'hart kuh'. As for 'Waar wick', I'll start paying attention to that prononciation as soon as they stop using 'Scotlandshire'...

I'm about as sentimental as a plastic bottle but I've got an Aria ProII SB-900 that I bought new back in the 80's. Still get's used for odd tracks here and there - it has quite a distinctive sound.

To be quite honest, if your amp has a defect severe enough that it wants to make a 10A fuse blow, then a 13A fuse will blow just as well. Have a play (which is the bit you wanted to hear. ) and just remember to grab a packet of 10A fuses next time you're passing B&Q.
-
Unfortunately, smoke and amplifiers is never good. I suspect you have a faulty amp - you generally don't get smoke as a direct result of having a blown speaker and smoke means that something (not necessarily the speaker) has failed. You really need to get your BLX looked at by a tech.
Thanks for the pointers chaps. Bartelby- ill have a look and drop you a line A good knob joke is always welcome!
On a serious note, if that footswitch is a standard sized one then those knobs are almost certainly Jazz Bass control knobs. You could always put the unbroken one in your pocket and pop into a local music shop to check...

Wiring a P Bass without a tone control
icastle replied to Jono Bolton's topic in Repairs and Technical
I do realise that the treble will be full if I remove the tone control from the circuit, that's why I'm looking to do it, I always have the treble up full on my P, I'm looking to do a bit of renovation to it as it needs sone TLC so I thought I'd take the opportunity to re-wire it at the same time.
Cool Was just checking. -
Never used a Promethean, but I'd expect it to be better than the Line6 if only because it has a native tone; it is what it is rather than trying to be five things it isn't!
What a great description, I'm so gonna have to nick that for future use!

Give the thread a good squirt of WD40 and then rotate the screw with a pair of pliers.
I'm making mine at the weekend. I would've had to go for the Great Gramma which is about £68, but I reckon mine's gonna cost about £20, and that's with the proper Auralex Platfoam! I'll let you know how it goes.....
Excellent Someone else (apologies I can't remember who it was) made themselves one a while back and reported that it worked just fine.
You didn't miss much! I used a Studio 110 for small acoustic gigs for a while when they first came out and actually managed to persuade myself that it sounded alright just because it was reasonably built, fairly loud and had some useful features packed into a smallish space. I soon came to the realisation that I was merrily fooling myself and it actually sounded mediocre at best. It wasn't a bad practice amp for home use but lacked any clarity of tone for live work when cranked, and I certainly wouldn't have recorded with it. It's currently sat in the corner of my lass' living room for her to plonk through when the mood takes her!
I'd kinda hoped that it'd be like an Promethean P110 but without the 'bells and whistles' and reduced power output. The only other one that matched my criteria was the AER, but at £1000+ it's gonna have to wait for quite a while...

Wiring a P Bass without a tone control
icastle replied to Jono Bolton's topic in Repairs and Technical
You do realise that leaving out the tone control pot and cap will result in getting a 'tone control set to maximum treble'? If that's what you're after then that's fine, if not then you might want to add a little preset and capacitor and just tuck it inside the body cavity when you've found the tone you're after. -
I have a random assortment of old knobs.
Basschat?
I'd never buy Line6, it's got to be the most horrid thing I've ever used.
I was quite upset actually. I'd half set my mind on getting one of those little Studio 110's for acoustic gigs and studio sessions but the HD750 episode soured it.

I just used evostick to fix the velcro to the pedals in the end - the stuff that comes with pedalboards is generally pretty poor.

Fender Jazz and Rickenbacker have one night stand...
Heh. You know apparently, there's a special forum just for Rickenbackers...
www.everyonehatesmecosihavealumpybodyandineedafriend.com ? -
You got that right. I've tried all that super-powered hi-fi stuff, but now... my new bass is a P with flats, played with a pick through a 1X12 rig. EQ flat, bit of tube warmth, that's it. No effects. It's all you need. IMHO. Old school. *waits for inevitable backlash*
ROLL UP, ROLL UP - PENNY A PUNCH!!! I got to the point about 10 years ago where it was taking me ages to get setup and a mate of mine that I've known since we were at college together mentioned that it never used to take me that long. I tried justifying it but kinda knew that I was on a hiding to nowhere - she's very smart at acting dumb is my mate. She was right though - pedal board, rack unit and assorted flimflam and if anything, it sounded better 20 years earlier. Nowadays it's just a smidgen of Chorus (so little that you can't really tell it was there until it goes). I'm down to 2 out of 6 basses being active and those are pretty much left in 'flat' mode.
