1. I ain't afraid of no worms... I was the owner of one for one day - the specification read well and it seemed like a clever piece of kit. The reality was that it was of a rather flimsy construction, sounded horrid even when you turned all the 'clever' stuff off and was severely limited in power output. Needless to say, it went back the following day. Line 6 do make some clever kit, but my experience with their amplification products means that I'll never use them for anything other than signal processing in future. Other experiences are available of course...
2.
Me too. Sounds like poor design to me. Mains power is notoriously subject to variations and a good power supply designer can easily cope with such things.
+1 You really have to go some to make a PSU fail because of a mere 10V variation. Sounds more like a sales & marketing solution to grey imports to me.
3. I'm betting they're a reverse threaded thing... Only way I can see of removing it if that's the case would be to put a longish bolt in there, exert lateral pressure on it and turn it the opposite way you'd expect to.
4. I've had this in the past where I've wanted to work with other musicians alongside an existing band. I always make a point now of being upfront and honest and explain that I reserve the right to work with other musicians as I see fit. I'd be inclined to take the gentle approach and just explain that this is a project you want to work on and that it doesn't affect your current level of commitment to the band.
5.
Look at it this way. If he had introduced you to some bird you subsequently had a relationship with, you wouldn't ring him up and tell him every time you shagged her, would you?
Oh hell. That's another social faux pas I need to correct then...
6.
Turn the whole unit in a dep band..and that way everyone understands the deal...
Everyone in my band were originally deps for another band. Over a period of a year or so we all got to work with each other until one night when the entire band was deps. At that point we decided that forming a permanant band was a sensible thing to do. The original band has now gone and we're into our fourth year together. We all have seperate recording and\or performance projects with other musicians that we work on and three out of the five of us play in one or more bands outside of the main group.
7.
A bit like Lynyrd Skynyrd still having no vowels even after being around all these years...
Absolutely! They're half Welsh you know...
8.
Or practically all place names in Wales, bless 'em
That's only because the English nicked all the good letters and left us with the rubbish ones...
9. The idea of bracing was to be able to make efficient cabs (acoustically and mechanicale) out of lighter materials - if your Laney hasn't got bracing then it probably doesn't need it and the same is probably true for the dampening material.

12. Just remember that once you've used oil or wax you've got no chance of a laquer sticking to the surface.
13. I play in three bands permanantly and work with other musicians as and when the work is there. I went through exactly the same set of worries when I started playing with other bands but the problem was easily solved by keeping everyone in the loop with an emailed diary. We've been working that way for the last four years and there's never been a clash.
14. There's a really useful table on this Wikipedia page showing voltage and frequency for different countries. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mains_electricity_by_country#Table_of_mains_voltages_and_frequencies 220V±10% and 50Hz is the dominant combination - even Papua New Guinea conforms!
15. Only ever seen it once in 30 od years, and that was with a home made guitar amp, but the speaker blew it's dust cap off and the coil actually burnt white hot (imagine magnesium!). That one actually caught fire.
16.
Did mine yesterday Quite pleased with it actually, it's turned out really good. No overlaps or staples; I left a few inches to wrap around the back, mitred the corners and then cut a piece to fill the middle of the backside. You have to look hard to see the joins, so I'm pretty chuffed how it turned out. The board is 18mm MDF, and the adhesive I used is Stuk Professional Rapid Spray Glue - Heavy Duty Formula. The adhesive was cheaper than some of the big name brands, but I was advised that a lot of professional carpet fitters and upholsterers use it. It has stuck the fabric to the board and the foam to the fabric VERY securely. It did stick my knees to the dust sheet I was working on too! The fabric is actually some disposable industrial matting from work, but it feels very much like the right sort of material, and it can withstand months of heavy industrial foot traffic, so it should wear fine. looking forward to trying it out on Tuesday! I've got a rehearsal for a gig I'm doing with the local Soul Choir, and the rehearsal is at a school hall with a suspended timber floor, so it should be a good test.
That looks pretty damn close to the 'real thing' apart from the gap between the two foam platforms. Mine has a foam infill made of ridged purple foam with a vvvvvvv sort of pattern.
17.
The Bongo doesn't photograph well.... you've got to see one in the flesh to appreciate the... errr... subtle curves
I know the feeling...
18.
He just looks so sad.
That's 'cos he knows he's going to have to tune it...
19. I'm not an Ashdown fan but, in fairness, their designs aren't radically different from many other manufacturers so the production of magic smoke is probably no more prevalent than a lot of other manufacturers.
20.
Headless basses. Just look ugly to me and the tuners behind the bridge look like a drunk (or someone 'avin a larf) designed the whole thing
Now strangely, despite being a real picky git, I don't find them particularly offensive to look at (with the exception of the cricket bats) but the problem I had with them was that I sometimes rely on 'bouncing' my hand off of the headstock and had a tendency to just fall off the end unless I concentrated.
21. Can't tell from that description unfortunately. Probably the easiest way to tell would be to unbolt the speaker and have a look at the label on the back of it - they generally have wattage and impedance marked.
22. I personally wouldn't. I'd be more inclined to look for a small combo with a headphone output.
23.
There are basses that I love the look of. There are ones that I love the feel of and there are ones that I love the sound of. Rarely are they all in the same bass.
+1 I love the Musicman sound but the look and feel of it just don't do it for me.
24. As far as your Ashdown combo is concerned, it was originally fitted with an 8Ω speaker as standard although the amp can run down to 4Ω. Essentially that means that you're only going to get the 300W described if you run an 8Ω extension cab. Although wattage doesn't halve as impedance doubles a 180W 8Ω driver should have been fine.
25. According to Ashdown specs, the minimum load that amp can take is 4Ω. Having an 8Ω speaker fitted won't have been the cause of the failure.
