Do people actually buy Danelectro instruments? I really can't believe that anyone would like them. Maybe use one as part of a costume in a pantomime or something but to actually want to own one... WTF?
Err......yes they do! Love mine, one of my favourite basses. Sounds fantastic too, although I understand they are a bit of a Marmite thing on the visual front. Seen some great players using them over the years - Garry Tallent, Entwistle, Joey Spampinato with Chuck Berry / Keith Richard etc & Jack Bruce in the 60's.
Just been listening to some live Average White Band so got to say Alan Gorrie/Steve Ferrone, although on some tracks Gorrie and Hamish Stuart swap bass and guitar duties.
+1 to this. Also what about Garry Tallent and Max Weinberg in the E Street Band - awesome combo. James Jamerson and Richard 'Pistol' Allen / Uriel Jones Ronnie Lane and Kenney Jones

I'm out tonight - at a hotel function in Scarborough with a carefully matched set of musicians ..........okay, a few deps thrown together to play some dance stuff for the largely older residents etc! Still, with the current economic climate am just glad to get a gig TBH. Happy New Year to all, cheers!

Agree with the move, but thanks for trying!

Short scale for less than £200! Perfect for little hands!
casapete replied to MiltyG565's topic in Bass Guitars
Maybe slightly OT but Danelectro make great short scale basses - both the Longhorn and the 63 sound and play well IMO, although they always seem to be a bit of a 'Marmite' thing especially on here for some reason. GAK are currently doing the Longhorn for a very reasonable £229 - slightly over your budget but well worth it! http://www.gak.co.uk/en/danelectro-58-longhorn-dl58cb-copperburst/52429 They are light, play great and sound ace despite the rather err..'quirky' construction and design - I love mine and use it every week for a local pub gig in a country/rock band. It will never replace my Stingray or Precision, but for what it does at the price it's superb. -
Roy Orbison's 'A Black and White Night' is just so good, thoroughly recommend to anyone who's not seen it. Jerry and Ronnie Tutt play it just right throughout.
Darryl Jones bass looks like a Kay:
Spot on - thats the one! Anybody on here tried one?
-
Yup, thats it. Never seen this till now! Anyone got /played one?
-
Anyone see the clips of the Stones O2 gig? Darryl Jones was playing what looked like an old 50'/60's bass, maybe a Harmony? Can't find an image right now. Also Bill Wyman was sporting a black/red bass which I did n't recognise - any (well heeled!) BCers who went to the gig able to shed any light? Edit - link to pic here. +1 for Yamaha EMX512SC. 500 watts a side and light as a feather (well around 8kgs anyway). Loads of features, great bit of kit and can be had for around £400 ish (try GAK or Guitar Guitar etc)

Looking good - nice to know of somewhere like this thats not darn sarf too. All the best with your business. -
Just watched it - thought LG band was great, only thing on the show that made me listen. (As a bit of an old git I like music that's fun and infectious, which seemed to be lacking with the other acts featured.) Don't know a lot about LG, although remember buying his version of 'Feel the need in me' in the 70's before realising the Sly connection. Could definitely hear the influence on Prince too!

Another satisfied user here - great product & quick turnaround. Got mine via ebay which was slightly cheaper than going direct for some strange reason.
great to see people talking about The Meters, I was lucky enough to see them supporting The Stones at Earls Court in 76. Soul Island is a great track that never seems to get a mention.
Me too! First time I encountered them - despite sound not being great in the cavernous Earls Court, they were groovy as f*ck!

I regularly use both 34" scale Fender and a 30" scale Danelectro, and don't have problems swapping between the two. Probably as they are such different instruments, so I can never forget which is which! I personally love the short scale Dano, its just ideal for the country/roots band I use it for. Not sure how it would be for the other stuff I play though, as it is quite 'thumpy'. Never tried a 32" scale, so would be interesting to see how that compromise would work.
