1. If that front pickup is original, then defo an Aria of some type. That's exactly like the pickup up on the 80's Aria Pro 2 I used to own.
2. Thanks for the above posts guys. I've got a Samson S-Direct active DI box which has switchable input levels, & that seems to be working ok with the B115d. I'll see how that goes for a while!
3. Just bought John's Breedlove fretless acoustic. Excellent communication throughout purchase, supremely well packaged & most importantly of all, a great bass! Thanks John. Wilco.
4. Don't think I've explained myself clearly enough! I use the B115d as a monitor in a full band set up. I'm thinking of using it just as an amp for the acoustic bass, but would it not need a passive DI box between the instrument & the B115d? Also, how well would that set up work at modest levels?
5. Resurrecting an old thread here, so apologies if there's been anything since. I've just bought an electro-acoustic fretless from Haimsey on here, & already own a B115D as a monitor. I don't need deep bottom end, but clarity. Should I need to raise the volume a little (not in a full on band setting, but with couple of acoustic guitars & vocals), a passive DI box in between the two should be job done shouldn't it? Cheers, Wilco
6. Pm's replied to. 8.8lbs according to my bathroom scales.
7. Thanks for the post Jody. Hope all's good with you. How's that FSR P? Such an awesome bass that one.
8. 27/5/15 - price now £450 (collected, meet up to 1 hour from Swindon or courier at buyers choice & additional cost) I've now paid for the bass that I've purchased on here (NBD soon!), & the only reason this is for sale is to refill the coffers after that transaction. This is the updated model (the Highway One not the Highway 1) with the badass bridge & graphite supported truss rods & Greasebucket tone circuit. I've added Fender original parts strap locks & neckplate. Plays & sounds fantastic & looks the part too! Pictures taken this morning (9th May - more available). The body has a few minor marks on, but that is to be expected as the body has a nitrocellulose finish. This allows the body to resonate better, but is not as tough as a polyester finish. Comes with a new Thomann case which was actually damaged in transit (another bass in it at the time, split along part of bottom edge), which I've glued & gorilla taped over. The damage was to the underneath of the case. The case is still very much perfectly usable. Spec wise comparable with a Road Worn or American Special (the AS replaced the HO), but the overall package on this is better than either of those. All In all, a very nice US Jazz bass for a modest outlay. 9. Good stuff. Wish I could afford one....!
10. 2008 onwards MIM P (£250 - £350) & mod the danglies out of it? Worked for me! http://basschat.co.uk/topic/258698-should-i-be-nervous-about-a-nbd-tomorrow-now-a-modded-nbd/page__view__findpost__p__2737549
11. Want it. Can't afford it. Dammit!! This won't be around for long I'm sure. GLWTS
12. Stick some Entwistle JBXN Neo pickups in - oomph problem solved!!
13. So a brand 'new' Japanese Fender Jaguar bass then. Interesting that the neck serial number starts with a T which dates that part to 1994-1995. Didn't MIJ stop in 1997 & CIJ from then on? Plus, therefore also not new. Additionally, wasn't the Jaguar bass not actually introduced until 2006?!? Looks like a current Jaguar Squier body with replacement chrome knobs, with a could be anything neck bolted on to me. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251919146594?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT EDIT; actually T serial numbers did make a return on MIJ instruments between 2007 & 2010, so this could be legit. Can't find anywhere on t'internet another image of that body & neck combination though. Could still be a MIJ neck mated to a Squier body? Anyone got any thoughts?
14. My knowledge of levelling frets is next to zero, however I'm right with you when it comes to having polished frets. To possibly make your life easier next time round, Planet Waves do an excellent fret polishing package - card template to protect the fretboard, & 5 pieces of material which do a great job of buffing up the frets. Would save all that time masking. Last time I used a metal polish called Peek (& didn't even protect the fretboard - no harm done, but possibly not a good idea!). Fret by fret, put a small amount on a cloth to clean, used another cloth to immediately wipe it off & give an initial buff & then finished polishing with a microfibre cloth. End result was super shiny!
15. Mods done & bass now with a 'Roger Waters' vibe. Mods were:- Entwistle PBXN Neo pickups Babicz bridge Hipshot HB7 tuners CTS 450 Premium series pots Sprague 0.47 capacitor Switchcraft jack socket Tusq nut New solid black scratchplate (shielded) New knobs Fender logo'd neckplate Fender chrome straplocks Cloth covered wire Frets levelled & ends rounded Whole project came in at £670 & the bass plays superbly & sounds HUGE! Tonally will go dark & dubby all the way to punchy, crunchy treble & anywhere in between. More than very happy! Pictured with my only other bass - these two have subdued any GAS for months now!
16. Could depend on the quality of the signature bass. Take the new Geddy Lee MIA Jazz - bet that's a lot closer in feel, sound & quality to the original than the MIM version for example. I know my CIJ Geddy had budget tuners & capacitor, so they were changed to improve the instrument. Also, the original pickups were a little too polite to nail Geddy's sound, so they went too. I've probably got an instrument now that's closer to the original than the stock bass as it came, but let's face it, you're not going to get "the same bass". I doubt I have devalued my bass, but unlikely that much monetary value has been added either!!
17. Thanks for the comments guys. I think I'll whack some new strings on at the weekend & after they've settled, see how the existing tuners function for a while. I've just clocked that they are the same type as on my Highway One Jazz, & those are perfectly fine.
18. Modding a MIM P. A little undecided on whether to change the tuning pegs or not. Stock ones seem ok - has anyone found an aftermarket upgrade that does not require the drilling of additional holes, & if so, a noticeable difference thereafter? Thanks.
19. Dave bought my Ibanez fretless from me. Great communication all the way through the sale & a very pleasant bloke. Looking forward to watching him play the Ibby at a gig next month!!
20. Certainly nothing wrong with the looks & sounds of that bass - nice one!
21.
I wouldn't buy a cheaper line bass blind myself as I'd think they could be so variable..but if you are going to mod it mercilessly, then less of an issue... as the only two things that need as the neck and body.. but then I've not been convinced they get this right anyway..
Generally wholeheartedly agree with this. Took an 'educated' flyer & it worked out. Main reasons were it was bought from a bass specialist shop so I didn't think they'd sell a dud, plus buying from a retail outlet meant I could always return it if not happy. Anyway, Babicz on - very impressed with that!
22. Many thanks for all the replies guys. I had a band rehearsal last night, so thought I'd reply after seeing how that went. Good news in that it is fundamentally a good bass. My last MiM I referred to had no depth in the sound & this one thankfully does. The neck is very playable & overall the condition is good. Minimal fret wear & virtually no marks ding wise. All in all, as much as could have wanted as the basis for the mods I have planned. It could have done with a bit of a once over before it left the shop though - loose & crackly jack socket & both pots were not tight so both controls wobbled, one noticeably. Sorted those before I went out & polished the frets (they were very matted). With the capacitor used on MiM's, I was expecting a lifeless tone control so no surprises there, but even with virtually dead strings, it sounded good in the rehearsal session. A black standard P bass is hardly gear porn excitement, so I'll only put up one picture. I'll post again when the mods have been done (assuming they go well!!)
23. I used to have a 2000 MiM Jazz V. It was total rubbish & although a Fender fan, it put me off MIM basses. However a 2009 MiM standard 4 string P is winging it's way too me & I have distance purchased it. It's coming from a respected bass retail specialist, the sale pics looked good, & from what I can gather on BC, MiM's from 2008 onwards seem to be a lot better quality wise. I am worrying about nothing right? (To be honest, I'm going to mod the crap out of it anyway!!)
