1. Awesome album. It sounds 'of it's time' but none the worse for that. It's one of Rush's best albums IMHO.
2. I don't know the seller, but I've got the mahogany stained body / maple necked version of this & it's superb. http://basschat.co.u...y-45-in-europe/ I actually paid more for mine than this one's up for, & I'm still very happy with my outlay.
3. Both my back & my ears love my HyDrive.....
4. I'm a 30+ year Rush fan - became my fave band in my early teens & they remain so today. The only album I don't listen to is Feedback - a covers album that was just unnecessary & rubbish. A couple of iffy moments with Test for Echo, Presto & more recently, Snakes & Arrows. For a long time Power Windows was my favourite album. That was until Clockwork Angels came out & that is now my favourite Rush album. Excellent production, some stunning playing by musicians at the top of their game & some fantastic well written, full on songs. I did go to the Birmingham show with some apprehension about the string section mind you. However in the end, thoroughly enjoyed the part they played in the show. Rush is a band that by their own admission like to experiment with their music (fairly obvious statement given the diversity of their albums!!), & they hope their fans join them in that musical journey. Each to their own - I guess you either tag along or get left behind... (would that be freewill then? I'll get my coat..... )
5. Yep, had the active basses, 5 stringers, rack mounted effects, pedal board covered in all sorts etc etc... Now got one P & one J (both passive) played through a head with three tone controls. Coupled with a decent cab & quality cables and have never been happier than now with my sound. Honestly, I'm sat here in totally GAS free place.... (for once!)
6. I can only go by my experience that my US Fender P is the best bass I have ever owned. Better sound, playability & very nicely put together. It is better than my MIJ Jazz too (but not by much..). All the (many) other basses I have owned were cheaper and very definitely not as good in one way or another. They just weren't - period. Funnily enough, out of those cheaper (and yes, nastier) basses, an early 80's Aria Pro 2 was the stand out instrument that punched well above it's weight. Still couldn't cut through a band mix as well as my current two though. There are definitely diminishing returns as you start spending more than £750 - £1000 on a bass. Yes you can pick up some cracking new basses for less than that, but I'm sorry they'll only be "great for the money " rather than being genuinely great. (Granted used basses at the moment could be a different story).
7. I had a 2000 MIM 5 string jazz & it sucked - tonally lifeless. Even a set of Seymour Duncan quarter pounders couldn't rescue it - it still sucked but louder.... I also had a Squier Vintage modified a few years ago & that actually sounded better, although the hardware & neck felt distinctly low class. The body was good though. My MIJ Geddy Lee Jazz is leagues ahead of both of those & my MIA Precision is actually a noticeable step up from the Geddy - love them both though.
8. Thanks for the comments guys & yes, the scratchplate is fine. I think a combination of the case lining, shadow & my poor photography skills make it appear close to the edge!
9. Thanks for the comments guys - it sounds and plays as good as it looks! Finish wise it's one of these;- http://www.dawsons.co.uk/blog/fender-fsr-american-standard-hand-stained-ash-precision-bass
10. Here's my latest purchase - a 2012 American Standard Precision - a Factory Short Run model. Very pleased with it & many thanks to Barrie at Bass Gear for his assistance with the purchase.
11. I've downsized quite a lot, so no longer need all of these. Best price new I've seen them for is £12, so I have priced these at £6 each for the used ones, £10 for the new one & £6 p&p. Looking to sell as a job lot rather than separately.
12. Price drop on SB Special 2 + many new pictures Branded tuners. Genuine bone nut. Pickup screw ferrules - how many of these just screw into the body? Excellent attention to detail. Little fret wear. Branded jacket socket. Neckplate serial number confirms 1983 build. The worst ding on the instrument - top edge rear. Small in reality. Lovely neck grain - almost marbled. Case included - a bit battered but functional. Here's a magazine advert from November 1983 - confirmation of an ash body (but only 22 frets!). £277 in 1983 is around £825 now!! Schaller strap locks included.
13. That's an excellent video - nice one. Interesting to read the subsequent posts about what people preferred. To my ears the CIJ was the least pleasing (that surprised me) & the 2007 ash bodied / maple necked US model definitely sounded the best.
14. My clear out continues! Two cases up for grabs:- ***SOLD***Spider pedal board flight case - one of these:- http://www.spider-en...sp?id=3878-4748 ***SOLD***Pulse ABS 2U rack case - one of these:- http://www.amazon.co...h/dp/9792303634 The nature of what they are means that there are scuffs on both, but other than that they are fine. Collection from Swindon ok if you're close enough!
15. Richard bought my Bass Muff Pi pedal. Great communication & super quick payment. Very straightforward & easy transaction. Cheers Richard.
16. Luscious chorusy bumpage! (ps: check out my feedback )
17. I've just read this passage online - Ray Burton, the legendary Cliff's (RIP) dad:- "The first year Cliff was with Metallica he played a Rickenbacker guitar that he purchased in 1982. He loved his guitar, but he did not feel it was a strong enough instrument to withstand the rugged treatment of the daily rigors of heavy metal touring. Early in 1984, Cliff was treated to an Aria Pro II bass guitar. He really liked it and therefore did not seek any other bass to play. He told me it was strong and ideal to play. I never heard a discouraging word about his Aria bass guitars. To give testament to his preference, he had several of them." Ok, my two are a little down the model range from Cliff's famous 'Black 'n' Gold' model, but not far off. As Eric said above "People forget that these were/are high end basses". If there was an "F" on the headstock, the asking price would be £1000 more.......!?!?

21. Price includes postage. In very good condition - small dings here & there (what used pedal hasn't?), but nothing major. Original box & instruction manual included. No power supply.
22. Lee bought my Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder pickups. Excellent communication, swift payment & an all round pleasure to deal with.
23. Thanks for the bump Eric. Both have great & flexible tones, are built like tanks, are quite light & have very, very silky, playable necks! Can't see that anyone would be disappointed for the money of they brought these. Stupidly forgot to mention that both have very little fret wear and for a lot of their lives have been boxed away. The Special under a friends bed for 14 years & the RSB in its case for nearly 20! Some more pics of the RSB:- [IM (the pics have made the bass look bright white - it's actually more of a vintage creamy colour in reality)
