1.
Im referring purely to my gut and girth mate........no offence intended lol The Flying V is a favourite guitar of mine, always has been.
None taken That's a stunning looking bass by the way
2.
I would look like I were playing a chip fork
God, is that what I looked like!
3. Go on and give in to a mid-life crisis and trade it for my Flying V lol
4. For sale is my custom made Flying V, made by Ray Cooper guitars just over 10 years ago. Would also be interested in a trade for a good quality 4 or 5 string, preferably with a maple fingerboard, something like a Stingray, Lakland DJ/Skyline 44/55-02/Jo Osborne, Fender USA Jazz, Sandberg California, you get the idea. I no longer play metal and it doesn't look right with me playing rock covers in pubs these days, frankly you feel a bit of a dick playing Wonderwall on a bass like this . (Especially now I'm middle aged and fat lol) I've had some modifications made to it since it was built, I had a new truss rod fitted by luthier Stuart Palmer a couple of years ago, the old one didn't break I just wasn't happy with it, so this is now accessed via the headstock and not at the body. The body and neck are mahogany, with a burl mahogany top and ebony fingerboard. A few scratches and small nicks in the lacquer, it has been gigged for the past 10 years and not wrapped in cotton wool, but saying that, it hasn't been abused. Schaller tuners and bridge, with adjustable string spacing. I've replaced the pots with gold ones, still have the black ones if you prefer those. Built-in flush mounted Dunlop straploks. You can balance this bass brilliantly, so no neck dive! Pickups are EMG P and J with EMG EQ. It sounds immense. After [s]£1200.00[/s] £1000 as I've seen something I like, or serious offers, trade value would be closer to £1200. I do have a hard case but it weighs a ton so would be impossible to post. So collection only or I can deliver within reason. More pics. There are flush mounted straploks in each wing tip, as well as the two on the back so you can balance the bass to your liking.
5. Ooh 'eck I was after another 5 string, but this is awesome, I'm going to have to seriously consider selling my V
6.
[technology overload] So I've got to buy an IPhone as well? [/technology overload]
I might be wrong as I'm not that interested in the toneprint part of the amp but I think you can plug it into a PC as well as there's a usb cable supplied.
7.
So, well worth the money even without using toneprint?
I'd say so, definitely.
8. Just got one of these for practice use as I'm a bit sick of lugging a 6x10 and an Ampeg around, I must admit for the price this is a really good little amp. I will definitely will using it for some of the smaller venues that my band plays at. I've not really played with the toneprint much yet, so I can't tell you how good it is or isn't. I think TC Electronic have built a pretty solid sounding little combo, well worth a try if you don't want to spend a fortune.
9. This is a bargain, if I wasn't saving up for a new cab I'd be all over this :-(
10. I've had a couple of nice 5 string basses in the past but found that I wasn't really using the low B, not that because it confused me after playing 4 string for so long, so I always ended up getting rid of them. Recently I got another 5 string and strung it E to C, for me personally it is far more useful than the low B with the music that I play, but that's purely my own personal preference.
11.
Don't think that sort of thing works with custom ones, no comparison point, so everyone is cagey about it. The original price is for a custom made for you item, which ceases to apply when resold, as its just an odd item then.
Exactly, hence my dilemma.
12.
I'm sure there'll be others along shortly to confirm this - Custom basses are rarely worth (read "sell for") anything like what you pay to have them built, after all, most buyers are after a "name" on the headstock. An instrument's rarity and what it means to you doesn't always relate to it's market value(sale price)..The only way to find out really is to put it up for sale and let it find it's own level.. Is this the Ray Cooper in your sig? Isn't he based in Hertfordshire?? Nice paint by the way..
Yes it is the same one, and yes he's based in Hertfordshire. I'm not desperate to get rid but it doesn't get played much these days. I know that selling a custom instrument isn't an exact science, you know what you're getting when it says Fender, Stingray or Gibson on the headstock. I guess I'll have to see.
13. Hi Everyone, Not sure where to post this so don't shout at me if it's in the wrong place. I have a custom bass that I've had for around 10 years now, and to be honest it's not getting the use that it deserves. It's pretty niche as it's a Flying V, but how do I realistically value it? I know what I paid for it and realise that I would never get that, has anyone else had a similar dilemma? (Has gold pots on now)
14. I had a passive one of these in the 80's, wish I still had it as it was a cracking little bass, I've played far worse more expensive ones. Have a Sunday morning bump.
15. A few months ago I posted on here asking if anyone had strung their 5 strings E to C instead of B to G. I was given lots of really useful advice, as per the usual on here. Well after having two failed attempts at playing 5 string before I decided to give it a final go but with the E to C tuning. Why I didn't do this before God only knows, (he says through gritted teeth after selling a lovely Stingray 5 a few years ago for £800, birdseye maple neck and fingerboard, piezzo bridge, the works - not that I'm bitter!). For me personally I've found it a revelation and although I'm a pretty average bassist it has inspired me and made me push myself again in terms of practicing and playing, (oh to be 18 again). I never struggled with 5 strings before because of my small hands, more of not really having much use for the low B, so it just ended up as an elaborate thumb rest. If there's anyone out there who is thinking of ditching their 5 string and going back to 4 then I'd seriously give this a go first, a few tweaks to the saddles and a minor truss rod adjustment and I was sorted, I'm now happier than a pig in @#&%
16. I think I have the same Ronseal on my back fence, my fence looks better though.
17. Just completed a trade with David for a Clover Argo 5 string, really nice chap, no messing around. All messages replied to fast, wouldn't hesitate in dealing with him again.
18.
At least the smoke covered the smell of men and their disgusting Lynx aromas. Pubs and venues smell horrible now.
I remember going into a pub next to Old Trafford a week after the smoking ban came in, (I was going to see Genesis and not Man Utd before anyone has a go - or you might think Genesis is worse), what hit me was the overpowering stench of body odour and stale beer, not sure what's worse, but as cancer has killed almost every smoker in my family then I guess a bit of sweat never hurt anyone long-term.
19. Love it, really nice groove going on with it still being quite chilled out, only ever heard one of those cajóns live played by folkies, they're pretty versatile for acoustic stuff listening to this.
20. Hi Johann, this was your old bass, brilliant as it is, I just can't seem to get past playing my Yamaha's, so it deserves to be used by someone rather than gather dust.
21. For sale is my lovely Sandberg JM4. If it's so lovely why am I selling it? Because I have 2 Yamaha's that I love more and it's not getting played. Very good condition. Comes with hard case. Now rebranded the TM4 - http://www.sandberg-guitars.de/basscat-overview/calt-series/caltm After £800.00. Would be interested in trades against a nice 5 string.
