2. Here is my Stagg EUB in black excellent playing and cosmetic condition, comes with 'rest and rib attachments', gigbag and strung with Corelli strings. Plays and sounds very well but a bit too big for my hands so moving it on. Looking at offers around 280. Its big and awkward to box safely so pickup preferred. 3. Back up for sale at bargain price of £130 including post UK only.
  4.
The John Birch bass, on ebay (seen below. Go to ebay link for detailed pics) thats a beauty. If i can derail this thread for one post (if thats ok with the Mods ?) and put this info re: John Birch in this post. In case anyone does not know of whom we speak. Here is John Birch's Wiki page its an interesting read. A left handed John Birch Ric copy circa 1975 The info on this left hooker is a page long. so anyone wishing to read up on this bass can go here. John Birch famous Super Yob II made for Dave Hill of slade (Below) A John Birch EB3 styled bass made in about 1976 for Jim Lea of Slade. This was made because the original Gibson EB3 that Jim Lea was using was stolen from John Birch's workshop. (Big_Stu knows much more about this John Birch stuff than i do. He knows the members of Slade and I belive he knew John Birch ) (EB3 style photos By John Diggins (Jaydee)) And lastly a pic and a few paragraphs on another John Birch Ric copy here. More John birch Slade guitars here.
I bought the John Birch above from Ebay and contacted John Carling at John Birch guitars - a very nice chap by the way - the seller - a very helpful gent - had owned it for 33 years and the finish is original, John told me that the knobs are original too, I removed the stickers and they are similar to Ric knobs with a silver cap. The bass has a serial number under the back plate. It weighs around 8.5lbs and plays like a dream straight out of the box. I agree with Jon that the build quality is sublime and playability to my tastes is superior to any Rick or Faker I've ever played (I've had quite a few of both). So yes I'm very pleased with it!

  14.
Ah, I remember that Kramer on TOTP - it was "Rat Trap" - nice little bass intro just before the vocals Cheers for the info, the '70's Kramers were the best IMO Just clocked your very tasty list of Gibson Grabbers - good to see another Gibson-head! (mine; T'bird IV, EB-2, EB-2D, RD Artist, Explorer)
Just put up one of my gibson G1s if you are interested, love them but this new bass is a bit of a drain and I only really use two of my three G1s (one has nylon flats/one roundwounds, the third my spare) Oh and thanks for solving what the Rats song was - I remember now!
  15. Selling one of my three Grabber 1 basses to raise funds for a new project, this Grabber is a later model and is in the original black finish with buckle rash on the back and various dings and chips to the finish. The Gibson decal has been worn away a little (common with these models) but still legible. The sliding pickup and electrics work superbly and the bass has fantastic punch and sustain with a rich fruity tone. The bass is all original with the exception of the fretboard which was replaced many years ago by luthier John Le Voi using a beautiful piece of what looks like ebony. The action is very low and playability second to none. Any questions please message me, these basses are becoming recognised - at last - as a classic bass. Out of all the Gibson basses I think these were the most articulate in terms of tone with a very useable tone - less mud more grunt! Any questions please message me. Am looking for 430. Sorry no case. More pics for all who asked - note there is a small square of easily removeable sticker residue on the back. 16.
Wasn't that the 650B? Bump for a lovely bass anyway!
The 650B was a later addition to the range, as was the 450B deluxe this was one of the first series. The later versions had different neck plates, crown inlays and a bevelled edge on the 650. I think the bassist from the Boomtown Rats used one on Banana Republic or somesuch. I saw him play a Kramer on TOTP and loved the look of it, only selling because I just succumbed to a John Birch Bass!
  17. Kramer 450B bass from the USA dating from the 70s. As you can see the bass has the distinctive 'tuning fork' headstock on an aluminum neck. The bass is in great condition for a 30 + year old, all aluminum parts are original and the serial number stamped neck plate is in place (generally these are removed or lost), there are a few cosmetic dings but nothing serious. The neck is true and in superb condition with plenty of life in the frets it and plays extremely well with a nice action all the way up the neck. The electrics are original and everything works as it should. The knobs are replacements with the exception of one volume control, these are readily available (black 'speed' style knobs) on ebay for a few pounds. The wooden pickup surrounds were broken when I bought the bass and need to be reglued or replaced, I have taken these off but will include them. This was the top of Kramer's original aluminum range and has exceptional build quality with beautiful exotic woods and quality hardware. It has a very versatile sound and was considered one for the pros at the time - the unusual materials meant production costs were high (see link for history). 425 GBP and its yours. http://www.vintagekramer.com/alum.htm Sold!
  18. This is a lovely old UK made Dan Armstrong 'London' bass from the early 70s hand made in the UK. It has had a soapbar pickup added a new bridge and custom scratchplate (still have the original aluminium one). When i bought it it was in a poor state having been converted to fretless with polyfilla (!!!!) by the previous owner who had then put it in a wardrobe as a lost cause having cracked the back of the headstock! One machinehead is a replacement Schaller. I took this to my local luthier who did his usual miracle and made it into a superb playing vintage bass adding a new bridge and giving it a great refret. It reminds me of an early pre SG shaped Gibson EBO or a Gordon Smith. It has unusual features such as aluminium markers and fascia, there is info on the net about these as they are quite rare one sold on here recently in virtually mint condition. I'm now looking for 245 for it. http://www.danarmstrong.org/londonbass.html

  22.
I hate doing this so soon after I got a bass, but it just isn't working out as I'd hoped. I'd been wanting to try one out for a long time but I think I've really found a soulmate with my Sandberg, it's almost completely killed off any GAS, anything else is a curiousity to be explored rather than a serious alternative instrument at the moment. This certainly lived up to expectations though, it plays beautifully and sounds great. Only minor negatives about this is that there's a mark at the end of the headstock where it looks like the previous owner's knocked it against something and the B string doesn't quite have the growl of the other strings (no difference in volume and there's a magnetic B booster kit available from Sheldon for $20 shipped iirc that would fix that). Pics (sorry about the "mood" lighting, I grabbed them with my phone when I was on the way out of the house last night): I'm looking for £850 for this or the following trades (plus cash where needed): Any Sandberg (I'd like a PM5 to contrast my JJ5 but any 5er) Stingray 5 G&L L-2500 Fender Jazz V Bongo 5 SUB5 I'll look at any 5ers I'm very open to offers though, offers that involve cash my way are favourable though as like I said, my Sandberg's scratching all my bass related itches at the moment so I feel I only need a cheap backup. If you do offer me a cheaper bass with the intention of making up the rest with cash, please include your cash offer with the offer of the bass (if it's negotiable, say so). I've been strung along for ages before by people offering me a bass I'm interested in, only to finally include a cash offer and it be incredibly low, so I'd rather not do that again. I'd rather not ship, I have nothing to send it in and I don't like using couriers anyway. I may be prepared if the buyer sorts out a courier, but I'd take no responsibility for any damage sustained in transit, so pick up is far more preferable. Anyone seriously interested is welcome to come try it out, I'm about a mile away from J25 on the M1. Thanks folks!
Interesting bass Thom, glad you like the Sandberg, you seem to have really bonded with that one mate! Anyway good luck with the sale, I'm not really in the market for a 5 er at the moment but this looks like a bargain to me.
