Selling one of my three Grabber 1 basses to raise funds for a new project, this Grabber is a later model and is in the original black finish with buckle rash on the back and various dings and chips to the finish. The Gibson decal has been worn away a little (common with these models) but still legible. The sliding pickup and electrics work superbly and the bass has fantastic punch and sustain with a rich fruity tone. The bass is all original with the exception of the fretboard which was replaced many years ago by luthier John Le Voi using a beautiful piece of what looks like ebony. The action is very low and playability second to none. Any questions please message me, these basses are becoming recognised - at last - as a classic bass. Out of all the Gibson basses I think these were the most articulate in terms of tone with a very useable tone - less mud more grunt! Any questions please message me. Am looking for 430. The later versions had different neck plates, crown inlays and a bevelled edge on the 650. I think the bassist from the Boomtown Rats used one on Banana Republic or somesuch. I saw him play a Kramer on TOTP and loved the look of it, only selling because I just succumbed to a John Birch Bass!

Kramer 450B bass from the USA dating from the 70s. As you can see the bass has the distinctive 'tuning fork' headstock on an aluminum neck. The bass is in great condition for a 30 + year old, all aluminum parts are original and the serial number stamped neck plate is in place (generally these are removed or lost), there are a few cosmetic dings but nothing serious. The neck is true and in superb condition with plenty of life in the frets it and plays extremely well with a nice action all the way up the neck. The electrics are original and everything works as it should. The knobs are replacements with the exception of one volume control, these are readily available (black 'speed' style knobs) on ebay for a few pounds. The wooden pickup surrounds were broken when I bought the bass and need to be reglued or replaced, I have taken these off but will include them. This was the top of Kramer's original aluminum range and has exceptional build quality with beautiful exotic woods and quality hardware. It has a very versatile sound and was considered one for the pros at the time - the unusual materials meant production costs were high (see link for history). 425 GBP and its yours. This is a lovely old UK made Dan Armstrong 'London' bass from the early 70s hand made in the UK. It has had a soapbar pickup added a new bridge and custom scratchplate (still have the original aluminium one). When i bought it it was in a poor state having been converted to fretless with polyfilla (!!!!) by the previous owner who had then put it in a wardrobe as a lost cause having cracked the back of the headstock! One machinehead is a replacement Schaller. I took this to my local luthier who did his usual miracle and made it into a superb playing vintage bass adding a new bridge and giving it a great refret. It reminds me of an early pre SG shaped Gibson EBO or a Gordon Smith. It has unusual features such as aluminium markers and fascia, there is info on the net about these as they are quite rare one sold on here recently in virtually mint condition. I'm now looking for 245 for it. Anyone interested in this? It's my mongrel Gibson Grabber 1, it was put together as a spare initially with the thought of converting it to a 5 string. The neck is a 70s Grabber 1imported from the states and rare as .... it has a serial number and is straight with good frets and a nice profile. The neck has had an ugly but sound repair where the joint has come adrift (note this is not a break). There are two pins with visible pinheads holding the repair in place but can't be felt when playing - see pic. The head has been refinished in places as it looks to have been rubbed down. Truss rod works fine. Logo is original and there is a serial and made in USA stamp on the reverse. The tuners are old Schallers. The body is from a copy I bought from Ebay as a rescue job, it is quality wood and not ply, pretty hefty but sustains well and balances nicely. The sliding pickup and electrics are from the same copy and sound very like the real thing (I know as I have three of them) although they are a wee bit scratchy. Unlike the real G1 the bass has a P bass type bridge and isn't strung through the body. I bought this in various parts as a bit of a fun project, it has been unceremoniously bolted together by myself but actually works well and looks, sounds and plays very like my early 70s G1. With a bit of care this could be a fantastic bass but as is is a working bass. It is currently wearing flatwounds (not the black nylons in the pics) and has black chrome domed and knurled controls.
